The Gym is Gonna be Stylin’
We’ve had contractors in our basement for the past two weeks doing a variety of jobs – most time consuming has been putting up beadboard wainscoting. After a few days of seeing how amazing the finished product was going to look in the rest of the basement, we decided to add it to the gym.
As a result, the gym has been torn apart with weights stacked wherever they wouldn’t be in the way, dust flying, and home clients scheduled on weekends or on weekdays to finish before 8 AM or to start after 4:30 PM so we wouldn’t be in the carpenters’ way. Additionally, I didn’t want to be working out while the workers were there so I lifted at 5 AM all three days, but never found time to get on my spin bike (affiliate link). Luckily, I could walk and run outside.
And no, I haven’t forgotten to post pictures of the finished kitchen cabinets – I’m just waiting until the knobs and handles get put on before sharing.

I’m tired just thinking back to all I accomplished yesterday (26, 490 steps). In addition to the above activities, I taught a 2-hour fitness machines orientation class and once home, vacuumed the basement even though the contractors had cleaned up pretty well before they left on Friday. Just before heading up to bed shortly after 9:30 PM, I realized that I had not foam rolled after my run, but was just too exhausted and skipped it.
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Questions:
- • What fun projects have you been working on lately? ~ I plan to redo another picture wall in the basement once the dust from the remodel settles.
- • Have there been any big changes in the weather where you live?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

We just renovated our kitchen and I love it
I need to declutter the other rooms. Getting push back from my hubby. Also would like to get rid of all our carpets. And paint.
Love your workout room.
Our weather is up and down. Rain on the way.
No race this weekend. One short one next weekend.
Isn’t it great to have a new kitchen? We have been on a decluttering kick, too. I got rid of a lot of stuff I don’t use when we did the kitchen.
Your gym looks great!
Our weather here is warming up this week. I’m hopeful “real” spring is right around the corner!
Thank you! And yes, I’m hopeful for spring being right around the corner.
I’m always tired reading your blog, LOL! Where do you get all the energy?
We went from windy & very cold, to windy & just cold, and today will be windy & warm (or so they say, anyway) with a side of rain. Better than snow though!
LOL, I appear downright lazy compared to what I used to get accomplished on a daily basis. My parents were the exact same way so I guess it’s genetic.
It’s quite warm here and very breezy. I’m glad I got my gardening done yesterday when I didn’t have to fight the wind.
Isn’t it amazing what a huge difference adding wainscoting makes? Those little details have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of a room 😉 I haven’t raced since Florida (that’s a long sabbatical for me), but I have a Shamrock Shuffle next Saturday, which is a new-to-me event. Hoping the Iowa weather cooperates!
We had been planning to add the wainscoting in the basement for ages and are just finally getting around to doing it and we love it! We’re also replacing the little red gas stove with a peninsula fireplace. It’s going to be so cozy!
I’m going to be visiting my mom on St. Paddy’s Day so no fun races while down there.
That was a big week- must be amazing to have the gym re-done. And gardening for three hours definitely counts as a workout.
No big projects around here, other than a semi-deep clean of the house before my son came home. i took three big bags of garbage out- how did we accumulate so much junk???
The gym redo is nothing but cosmetic, but makes the area seem bigger with the lighter color on the bottom. And yes, it’s amazing how much junk we can accumulate!
I would love to declutter some of my rooms as well. I am ready for a bedroom update for sure. Nide solid week for you!
We did a little remodeling in our bedroom (new tile around the fireplace) when we remodeled the master bath, but I have a few other changes up my sleeve. 😉
Your gym was already amazing and now it will be even better with a facelift! How nice!
What a productive week for you- way to go!
Thanks, Jessie!
My house needs so much updating that it’s overwhelming. The other issue is getting my husband on board. This is what it’s like being married to a carpenter…he repaired the plumbing from our sump pump recently and had to cut a hole in the dining room wall. It’s going to be there for a while. Heck, he fixed the plumbing in my bathroom and never did tape the drywall…
I’m so impressed with your productivity! I need to get more motivated.
Your situation sounds like the old proverb, the cobbler’s wife and children go shoeless because he’s so busy keeping his customers happy. 🙂
Love the gym make-over! I’ve got painted cinderblock walls in mine. 😉
Glad you were able to work (and workout) around the remodeling work. It can be so disruptive.
Thanks, Coco! And it’s the equipment in the gym and whether or not you use it that really matters. 😉
You’ve just inspired me to get on with a project I’ve been talking about forever – I’d love to have a bookshelf put in the size of one of my walls in the living rooms. I know exactly what I want and just need someone to come in and do the measurements etc and give a quote but I’ve been dragging my feet. Time to get it done!
What a solid week in terms of workouts and home projects!
Awesome, can’t wait to hear how your bookshelves turn out.
The weather here has been somewhere around 40-50° for the past month but the sun is finally beginning to feel hot. It’s unusual that we have this much “heat” this early in the year here.
I’m still getting settled in my new apartment. Finding furniture that fits in and finding transportation to pick it up, have proved to be more difficult than expected, especially when you’re not willing to pay full price.

Bargain furniture shopping is a great way to save money if you have a way to transport it home.
Can’t wait to see the final gym product – hadn’t even seen this when I nominated you on IG for show and tell. Good work getting it done amid the construction

Thanks, Cari! I can’t wait until the painter gets here to complete the gym portion of the basement overhaul.
