It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and complaining about our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I finally fixed my blog paid someone to fix my blog. After updating the PHP in June, four lines of visual warnings popped up across the top of my blog along with a few other behind the scenes issues. No amount of research on my part could help me figure out what to do without risking crashing the entire site so I finally broke down and hired someone to help me.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I ordered a copy of my friend Erin’s book Hiking With Kids Virginia: 52 Great Hikes for Families (affiliate link). We’re meeting for coffee soon so she can sign it before I gift it to a very special family this Christmas.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that contractors started work in our basement in late February and have finally finished. The three largest projects were replacing three french doors, adding wainscoting throughout the basement, and replacing the little red gas stove with a peninsula fireplace. Another smaller project was building a niche with an electrical outlet in it so the power cord to our Virginia Tech neon light wouldn’t hang below the sign (the electrician also added a wall switch for turning the light off and on). Most everything has been finished for months, but the remote control thermostat for the fireplace was lost, finally replaced, and just installed.
Before (with blue tape outlining fireplace placement)…
After…
By the way, a stone mason added Hokie Stone to the top of the fireplace to match our bar which we had built several years ago. If only our Hokies looked as good as our fireplace and bar…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I finally got to meet Judy on Tuesday while she was in Virginia for a trail half marathon. We met in Shenandoah National Park for a hike down to Dark Hollow Falls. I’m hoping to get a recap up sometime next week.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that my little gnome garden in our back yard has attracted another new friend, the meditating dude (affiliate link) in the center, and he fits right in with the crew. The fall flag from the four season gnome flags (affiliate link) is the perfect touch for my now-completed silly little collection.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that my husband gives me the side-eye when this commercial comes on TV (check it out seven seconds in), and according to Progressive, I’m turning into my parents. LOL
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I turn 65 soon so there’s a little more truth in the above video than I’d like to admit. 😉
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any races coming up, and if so, I’d wish you good luck and to have a fun time!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • Where was the last place you hiked? ~ Dark Hollow Falls
- • Have you become your parents? If so, what are some examples? ~ I go through the house turning lights off after everyone, I squeeze every last drop out of the toothpaste tube and lotion containers, and I probably print out a few more documents than necessary because I still like paper copies of certain things.
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Haha that commercial! At least you aren’t the only person who collects garden gnomes!
Your basement looks amazing! Our house needs some updating but trying to get the hubs on board is a challenge. He agrees but that’s where it ends, lol
Fun that you got to meet up with Judy!
Thanks, Wendy! We use our basement more than our main level family room so it’s nice to have the fireplace finished just in time for winter.
Yes, hiking was so fun and Judy and I had a great time!
Hah, I love those ads. And the Geico ones. There are some creative people in advertising!
Your basement looks so lovely! Just in time for winter.
I’m glad you got to meet up with Judy!
Thanks, Coco! And yes, both of those insurance company’s ads are quite clever.
It was fun meeting Judy – I’m glad it worked out for us.
Ha ha on that commercial! So fun that you got to meet Judy IRL and go for a hike. I have not been out that way in years. I know I missed the peak foliage again already!
Yes, it was so nice to finally meet Judy and we had a fun hike.
Other than driving on Skyline Drive on the way home from visiting my Mom occasionally in the fall, I hadn’t been in Shenandoah National Park for years either.
Hahaha, I love those Progressive commercials! Although yes, some of them hit a little too close to home.
It must be so nice to have the basement finished, and it looks incredible. How fun that you got to meet up with Judy- I guess she’s on vacation? I’m looking forward to the recap of the hike.
I love the meditating gnome!
Yes, Judy tied a vacation in with a race she ran in Virginia. I’m happy it worked out for us to meet up.
Your basement and gnome garden look great! My husband finally agreed to get new flooring! His allergies are killing all of us, so it’s definitely necessary.
Jenn recently posted…a november coffee date
Thank you, Jenn! And how exciting that you’re getting new floors!
Your gnome garden is so cute! You’ve amassed quite the collection. Love your basement – looks like a great spot to hang out and entertain.
Those Progressive ads make me chuckle 🙂
Thanks, Michelle! And yes, pre-Covid we entertained a lot in our basement.
Those Progressive commercials are hilarious! Like you, I print off more documents than I probably need to, but I prefer a hard copy as well. Glad you and Judy got to have a meet-up 😉
Yes, it was nice meeting Judy!
If I don’t print out stuff, what do I staple to the documents that I still haven’t gone paperless on? LOL
The gnome garden is fun! Thanks again for making the trek out to meet me — my last hike actually was the Frazier Discovery Trail there, which had some nice views.
The basement looks amazing — we don’t have a basement, but our first floor our “family room” aka my fitness room with the stationary bike and treadmill, weights, Yoga mats, etc.
I’m so glad I didn’t give up when Waze sent to the wrong place. Thanks so much for waiting for me, it was worth the drive!
Ughhh, I hate when stuff goes wrong on the blog. I used to try to figure out how to fix it myself but at some point, it definitely becomes more worth my time to just find someone who knows what they’re doing. ._. I’m glad you got yours fixed!
Your basement looks awesome and I love the gnome garden! :]
Thank you, Farrah! I just got a new set of little indoor gnomes for my birthday. 😀
I love the Progressive ads!
I got a Halloween gnome for my desk because it was way too boring. One day when you’re up here you have to see mom’s garden. Many critters
I love it! I got a cute little set of indoor gnomes for my birthday. I’ll have to share a picture during our next coffee date.
