Busy, but not Running
We left our home super early on Tuesday morning to drive to the farm to see my mom. Midday Wednesday, we continued on to visit Pablo and his humans who had just moved from Florida to Charlotte, NC. Needless to say, my workouts – especially strength training – were somewhat interrupted. Despite limited workouts, I stayed quite busy and hit a decent number of steps each day.
Running wise, it was a good week to be distracted with other things because I was still feeling my 5-mile run from the previous Saturday… in a bad way. The run felt so good, but I’ve had a tingly leg since then. A week without running was smart and I’ll see how I feel on Tuesday, my next scheduled running day.
Overview of the Week
Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Cycling: 25 miles
• Average speed: 16.4 MPH
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 10:01 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65°
• What I wore: bike shorts and jog bra
Although my husband joined the Gravel Rats to ride outside, I opted to stay inside on my spin bike (affiliate link). Since we would be traveling starting on Tuesday, I wanted to give my Tuesday/Thursday clients an opportunity to workout once rather than canceling them for the week, so once I finished my ride, I trained a few clients.
Monday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Walking: 5K
• Average pace: 13:44 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 164 feet
• Start time: 6:06 AM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 39° (feels like 33°) and mostly clear
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, velour jacket, gloves, mittens, and ear warmer headband
I stepped outside at 5:45 AM to take out the garbage and realized the moon was too spectacular and the morning was too nice to miss out on a walk so I switched things up and took a walk before my first client arrived, saving lifting for later when l I had a break.
Tuesday
Drive to the farm
No specific workouts, and even though I sat in the car for 6 hours, I still got in over 12,000 steps once I got to the farm just by doing stuff for Mom. We had a quick, but wonderful visit!
Wednesday
Drive to see Pablo and his humans in their new home in Charlotte, NC
Strength training: 15 minutes of core
Walk: short walk after dinner with Pablo and my d-i-l
Thursday
Walking: 2 miles
• Average pace: 15:31 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 185 feet
• Start time: 8:25 AM
• Location: son and d-i-l’s new neighborhood
• Weather: 55° and cloudy
• What I wore: capris and l/s shirt
Bill and I went out for a walk to explore Pablo and his humans’ new neighborhood. Charlotte’s weather is a good 10° warmer than where we live and I was pleasantly surprised to see cherry trees and daffodils blooming!
Cycling: 3 miles
• Average speed: 11.7 MPH
• Bike: Salsa Journeyman
• Surface: paved
• Elevation gain: 236 feet
• Start time: 10:46 AM
• Location: son and d-i-l’s new neighborhood
• Weather: 63° and sunny
• What I wore: capris and l/s shirt
Later in the morning I borrowed my d-i-l’s bike and took it for a 3-mile spin. It felt good being back on my original Zephyr (I gave it to her when I upgraded my gravel bike).
Friday
Walking: 5K
• Average pace: 15:24 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 224 feet
• Start time: 7:01 AM
• Location: son and d-i-l’s new neighborhood
• Weather: 55° and partly cloudy
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, nylon shell, and visor (took shell off 1 mile into the walk)
It was another fun morning with Kim, but this time we chatted on the phone while walking – my d-i-l’s Peloton bike didn’t have its pedals back it on from the move, plus it was covered with a drop cloth because we were helping them with a painting project. Kim and I took pictures of the contrast in our weather and she put together this collage.
Saturday
Strength training: 15 minutes of core

No signs of spring here, though the temps have been teasing us a bit. Well, I guess we do have the mud from all the melting snow, LOL. It was fun walking and chatting on Friday, though I was quite jealous of the daffodils on your route 😉
Mud = spring, LOL 😉
Yes, always fun to workout “together”!
It definitely felt like spring around here this week complete with early allergies. Sounds smart to take some extra rest from running and see how you feel. Hope you are having a great visit w the kids and Pablo. Safe travels!
Thanks, Deborah!
Those daffodils are gorgeous!
I would give anything to move out of Florida right now. I have my eye on some mountain living.
You had a strong week, but I do hope that tingly leg is feeling better!
It was such a treat to see daffodils on my walk! And thanks, I’ll give my tingly leg (really my back) a test with a short run on Tuesday.
Nice week for you, but I’m sorry to hear about your leg. Any ideas about what is causing the tingling?
I’m so surprised you don’t have a dog of your own since you adore Pablo so much!
We are having hints of spring but it is way too soon to even think about that here in the Midwest! Enjoy your temperate weather!
Yes, the tingling is from a slightly herniated disk pressing against a nerve. It rears its ugly head if I run too long. My spine just can’t handle the pounding these days. I wish there were more convenient dirt trails where I could run.
We’ve talked about getting a dog, but Pablo set the bar high. LOL
How fun to walk and chat with Kim! Wow those daffs make me long for spring. There’s no sign of it here yet, although I can feel the increasing strength of the sun when it’s out and I love it. How fun to visit Pablo and his humans!
We’re driving home as I type and the farther north we go, the browner it gets. Yes, it was so nice seeing the kids and Pablo!
That’s a lot of steps to get just doing stuff — you must have done a lot.
Sounds like you had a good week of family visits,
It was such a nice visit at both locations. 🙂
Oh, I thought your weather looked awfully spring-like when I saw the picture on Kim’s blog! This explains it- you were in Charlotte. It must have been great to see your son and DIL.
Sounds like a great week- you stayed active while traveling and got a little break from running. Hope your back is feeling better now.
Thanks, Jenny! I’m planning to take my back out for a test run on Tuesday.
Wonderful to see the daffodils! It sounds like you had a good week and I hope your leg is better.
Thanks, Susanne!
Pablo looks very happy to see you!
We are getting unseasonably warm weather for February (except for a day here * there) but definitely no bulbs, no Robins . . . although my husband did see a tree trying to leaf out on a walk one day recently.
I hope your leg is ready to run tomorrow!
Thanks, Judy!
I laughed when I read “visit Pablo and his humans” LOL! Always nice to visit family and get away from home for a few days 🙂
I hope that your leg feels okay on your next run. Those type of aches and pains are so frustrating because they always come when you least expect it.
Yes, it was so nice to visit the kids and see their new place – Pablo loves it! 🙂
Aww, Pablo! What a cutie.
The flowers are so pretty!
Sorry about the leg issues 🙁
Thanks, Jessie! My leg is no longer feeling tingly, but I decided to give my back a little longer to heal so I haven’t run yet (maybe a mile later today).
Pablo was so happy to see us!
Fun that you got to ride your old bike again! Even though it feels like it’s thawing out around here, I haven’t seen any flowers popping out yet. I’m sure we have some cold weather heading back so hopefully none of the plants get confused!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures recently posted…Weekly workouts – a winner!
I just heard that the cherry blossoms in DC might peak around or just after March 20th this year… The earliest on record is March 15th.
And yes, it’s always great to get back on my original gravel bike when I visit my son and d-i-l!
Spring.. in February, which you know is wrong.
Bet you’re glad to have Pablo and his humans much closer.
Yes, we’re super happy to have them closer. Plus now when they visit, they’ll drive rather than flying so Pablo can come, too!
