~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
It’s time again to join in on the fun and clear my conscience of recent running, biking, fitness, nutrition, and life in general faux pas. I know I’ll feel better when I’m done, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a laugh or two in the process!
I runfess: For the first time in 13 years, I didn’t run in a turkey trot yesterday. Here’s a look at my official turkey trot history:
- • Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 10K – 1997, 1999, 2010
- • Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 5K – 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 (virtual), 2021, 2022
- • Turkey Dash Charlotte 4-miler – 2019, 2023
From 2000 to 2009, my tradition was to run 10 miles at 6 AM, swinging by where the race was being set up to say hi to some of my friends volunteering.
I walkfess/bikefess: For the past several years that I haven’t been running longer distances, my Body Glide has been setting idly in my closet feeling sorry for itself. Recently, though, it’s been feeling the love when I rub it daily on top of the knuckle of one of my toes that rubs against my sock. My trusty friend Body Glide has prevented many unwelcomed blisters.
I runfess/walkfess: When out on a walk (it used to happen when I ran) if I even slightly have to use the restroom, my SPIbelt pushes against my bladder making me even more uncomfortable. The only cure is to carry it or find a large tree. 😉
I runfess/walkfess: Over the course of the last two weeks, I pulled up all of my 2024 Garmin runs and changed all but three (I only ran three times in 2024) into walks so my end of year Garmin stats would be accurate. For the past couple of months I’d been doing that at the end of each walk, but prior to that hadn’t really thought of that as an option. My current Garmin works fine so there’s no need to buy one with a walk feature as long as I make the correction at the end of my walk.
And finally, I decoratefess that I put up our Christmas tree last week, a full week before Thanksgiving. I’ve always been on ‘Team Wait Until After Thanksgiving to Decorate for Christmas”, but with traveling to the farm and not hosting Thanksgiving dinner, I thought, “Why not?”
There you have it, my most recent fessions; and you can bet that it feels good to get another set off of my chest! See you soon in the runfessional.

It’s a good thing that BodyGlide continues to work after its expiration date!
I didn’t know that the Garmin watch and app were not aligned. I thought if you have no walk option on the watch, then you wouldn’t be able to override an activity in the app with a walk option. It’s good that you can and that all your walks are reflected correctly in Strava. No need to buy a new Garmin!
There’s an option to “edit activity” when you go into the specific activity on the Garmin app. And yes, the remainder of myBody Glide worked great and I’ve since replaced it with a new one. 🙂
No trot…weather was awful but I did have FOMO.
Never decorate before Thanksgiving.. although this year it’s so late… I’m going to Florida next week and then to NYC twice… don’t know if I’ll have to decorate.
It will be minimal since I have a crazy cat.
So you’re saying that you may deny your crazy cat the opportunity to create havoc on your Christmas decorations? 😉
I did run a turkey trot this year and it was really good, despite some GI issues before the start.
My tree was also up before Thanksgiving for the first time ever. It would have been up sooner if not for the whole breaking thing, but it’s up and gorgeous and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Jenn recently posted…Welcome To Black Friday Runfessions
Thank goodness the GI issues were BEFORE the race and not DURING!
Don’t you just hate it when something breaks sending a monkey wrench into your best laid plans?
I used to be on the “Tree Up On Wednesday Night Before Thanksgiving” team. I’m recent years, though, it’s been happening the weekend prior instead. I don’t necessarily have it fully decorated, but it’s been up & shining with all the lights at least in place 🙂
Very nice! I have a decent amount of fall/Thanksgiving decorations that I’ve always wanted to leave up when I’m hosting Thanksgiving so that’s why I was on “team after.”
I runfess that I’ve never been a turkey trotter.
While I’ve always been one to decorate after Thanksgiving, I’m all for doing what makes life easier…and happier, right 🙂
Exactly!
