Decorating and Exercise
I can’t really say that decorating for Christmas is great exercise, but I certainly got my steps in while making multiple trips up and down two flights of stairs over the course of three days. Once home from Thanksgiving dinner with family, I started decorating and spent most of Friday and Saturday doing the same (I’d put our tree up and decorated it the previous week). Once again I’ve transformed my house into a glittery wonderland borderlining on tacky, just the way I like it for the holidays.
Overview of the Week
Before getting into each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…

• Average speed: 16.5 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 10:23 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65°
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra
Walking: 2.17 miles
• Average pace: 14.48 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 90 feet
• Start time: 11:40 AM
• Location: neighborhood trails
• Weather: 42°, mostly sunny, and breezy; climbing to 46°
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, nylon shell, gloves, and visor
Still breezy and with a lot on my plate, I stayed inside on my spin bike for a quick workout before going outside for a walk. With a super early departure planned for Monday morning, I also made sure to get my strength training completed Sunday so I wouldn’t miss a session.
Monday
Drive to the farm
Tuesday
Core work: 10 minutes
Wednesday
Drive home from the farm
Too late, I thought about walking the next day’s turkey trot course (I didn’t want to walk it during the race – it would be too depressing after having raced it for so many years). Instead, I cooked for the next day making dishes to take and to have for making our own feast for the day after Thanksgiving.
Thursday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Even though I didn’t run in a turkey trot, I joined my blogging friends for a Thanksgiving day themed collage.
Friday
Walking: 4.18 miles
• Average pace: 14.54 minute/mile
• Elevation gain: 211 feet
• Start time: 9:11 AM
• Location: neighborhood circle and short amount on trails
• Weather: 41° (feels like 38°) and mostly sunny, climbing to 42° (feels like 36°)
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, puffer jacket, gloves, and visor
This was no ordinary virtual walk with Kim – we were meeting on Friday rather than our usual Thursday and I witnessed a terrifying accident of which I was almost involved. I’ll share more details during our coffee chat on Friday because in a round about way, coffee was eventually involved.
Saturday
Strength training: 1 hour of total body
Cycling: 16.1 miles
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle GX Spin
• Average speed: 15.9 MPH
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 1:33 PM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 63° in basement, 36° (feels like 29°) outside
• What I wore: bike shorts and sports bra

Oh wow, your Friday experience sounds awful, I’m glad you weren’t hurt!
That would have been a good idea to walk the Turkey Trot, although I can see how that would have been depressing. Why is there no “Turkey Tour” for bikers? I think you’ll need to organize that for next year!
Turkey Tour – you may be on to something! As you know, though, it takes quite a bit longer to get an equally good workout on a bike as running a 5K or 10K so I’m not sure I could fit it in on Thanksgiving morning. Maybe we’d have to do it the weekend before.
“a glittery wonderland borderlining on tacky,”- I love it! That pretty much describes my house over the holidays, although I think I might veer a little more on the tacky side. Right now I only have the tree up- I have to get the rest of the house Christmas-ed!
I like Catrina’s idea of a “turkey tour!” I think you need to organize one next year.
Looking forward to hearing the story of the accident- and I’m VERY glad you’re okay!
LOL, some might say I veer on the tacky side as well. 😉
And thanks, I started writing about the accident last night and my heart started pounding so hard that I decided to give myself a few days.
in the 20s in the am – brrr… not ready but it is December. No decorations up at all.
Skipped the trot… no race this weekend. I think I’m in a post marathon slump.
I’m not ready for 20’s in the mornings when I walk either. Hope you get out of your post marathon slump soon.
I can and will complain about our weather because, despite our mild fall, we are in the deep freeze. It’s too soon and if this is our pattern for winter, well, it’s going to be a very long one. Sigh.
Your tree looks great and not at all tacky! My hubs carried the tree up to the living room but hasn’t put it together yet. I need to work on him because on Weds he’s having his back surgery! I’m on my own for a while after that.
You’re correct, we certainly can complain about the weather. LOL
Once my husband drags our Christmas tree boxes up from the basement, I’m in charge of putting it together. It’s not that hard; although, I’d caution you to be careful since you just hurt your back. If your husband is having back surgery on Wednesday, maybe it’s not a good idea for him to be doing it either.
Your tree is packed! But it looks really nice. Ours is decorated pretty light because my kids seems to be calling it quits early. Lots of ornaments left in the boxes!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures recently posted…Weekly workouts – back in action
We need a 10-foot tree to hold all of our ornaments! LOL
I love your tree! I have slacked-off on the ornaments in recent years, mainly because I’ve been the only one dealing with their display and takedown. Im also quite glad you were the main witness (and not the victim) with the accident. SO scary!
Thanks, Kim!
