100 Miles to Go
And just like that I only have 100 miles left to reach 5,000 miles of riding for the year. I told my husband that if I say I’m going to do anything similar next year to just stop me. I have the ability to get a bit obsessive about things and this has been a perfect example. I’ve been riding when I should have been using that time to wrap gifts or bake cookies or sleep!
Had I discovered a month earlier how close I’d be to that milestone number it wouldn’t have been such a big deal because I would have started spreading out the miles in early November and wouldn’t have had such long rides to complete as I pedaled my way toward the holidays.

I ended up waiting until a little later to walk on my treadmill while watching football, and by then, the sleet had turned over to snow.

I almost always lift weights super early in the morning before logging on with my MWF 6:30 AM client, and a quick cardio workout usually comes after my two first clients and before my late morning/afternoon clients. With a midmorning client rescheduling, I had time for two different cardio workouts. I normally don’t do cycling and walking on the same day, but while chasing my cycling goal I’m trying my hardest not to skip my walks.

I’m always grateful for Kim’s company during my cardio workouts especially now that I’m doing longer indoor rides. The miles fly by when we’re chatting about everything from our favorite college football teams to our mutual love of indoor houseplants to the difference between antipasto platters and charcuterie boards. Google to the rescue on that last one!
Once I finished my first ride, I trained an in-person client and as soon as she left, I hopped back on my bike for a second ride, this time while training a virtual client and later chatting with my brother on the phone.
Full disclosure, I changed into my festive clothes just for the picture.

In celebration of the winter solstice, Kim and I met virtually for an indoor workout. Our days will be getting longer now and that was worth a high five!
I spent the rest of the day planning the next week’s menu, grocery shopping, and cookie dough making. Pablo and his humans arrived late afternoon and this mommas heart was happy.
Again, full disclosure: I added the festive shirt for the pictures.

Questions:
- • Are you a fan of the days getting longer now that we’ve passed the winter solstice? ~ You bet!
- • What was your most productive workout of the week? ~ Both my ride and walk on Wednesday after sitting in the car all morning hit the spot!
- • Did you run in a race this weekend? ~ no
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
Great job on those miles, Debbie! Like you, I tend to get obsessive about those milestones. I had to let go of my deadlift goal of 200# this year after tweaking my back. I’m sure you know how mentally hard that was for me! Limitations? Who us? Now I’m on the race to get all my baking done…
Thanks, Wendy! And yes, you know I feel your pain on the deadlift goal.
Same here, yesterday afternoon and the next few days will be marathon baking for me.
5,000 miles! Goodness gracious. That’s a lot!!
Happy holidays Deb!
Thanks, Jessie! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, too!
Awesome. You got this.
I used to care about mileage goals and try to run 1000 miles.
This year, I just didn’t have the mojo… and so my total is very low. But I’m healthy. That’s the most important.
Merry Christmas.
Thanks, Darlene! Yes, being healthy is what’s most important.
Look at those cycling miles!! You’re nearly there, Debbie!
I love how dedicated you were to this goal – being committed (borderline obsessive) is the way to go!
As a kid we often went to Italy. Whenever I saw antipasti on the menu, I always thought it meant “against pasta”, until I learned that it meant before (ante) a meal (pastus).
Looking forward to when you get to the finish line next week!
Thanks, Catrina! I used to think antipasto meant “not pasta” and since the appetizer platters didn’t have pasta on them it made sense to me. LOL
You are simply amazing! I am so proud of you! If only it was possible to wrap while riding! But it will all get done! And I love that you and Kim got to do so much of it together!
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Thanks, Jenn!
We should keep a log of how many miles we actually “ride together,” LOL! It’s always fun having someone to chat with on these indoor rides that go nowhere, right? Kudos to you for this lofty (but very attainable!!!) goal, and for inspiring me to join you for some of it 😉
Thanks, Kim! I’ve enjoyed our time together walking and spinning this past year.
Wow! You are so close on your goal — I don’t tend to make mileage goals because I also get obsessive. This year I had to take off 10ish weeks with injuries, a broken toe, etc. So I hate to make them!
If I’d not been forced to quit running, my cycling mileage wouldn’t have gotten so high so there are pluses and minuses to riding 5,000 miles.
You’ve got this! How exciting. Although, I think if I had a huge fitness goal right now in addition to everything else, I would lose my mind. Luckily we got to just live it vicariously through you! I hope you still have time for wrapping and baking! Good luck with it and Merry Christmas!
I got all of my wrapping, baking, and cooking done with time to spare, Jenny! Thanks, and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
By now you must be super, duper close to your goal – or maybe have finished it?? You are a great example of what someone can do when they put their mind to it! Happy Holidays!
Yes, I met my goal yesterday morning! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
