It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and complaining about our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that today we’re driving home on our final leg of a just over a 2-week roadtrip and I’m not quite sure I’m ready to get back to reality. Once we got into Naples, Florida the cold snap the south had experienced moved out and we had nothing short of perfect weather for our stay. I wish I’d thought to set my water bottle somewhere with a palm tree backdrop to use for this post instead of the above picture.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I liked the way Kim posts her monthly stats and asked if she minded if I copied it. She gave me her blessings and here’s my first edition. As you can see, I spent a lot of time on my bike, both inside in cold Virginia and outside in warm, sunny Florida.
In addition to cycling, walking, and strength training, other recorded activities included snow shoveling, but not enough time worth adding it to the stats. I’d like to think that’s behind me, but our weather forecast for next week isn’t looking so good.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I recently completed a long overdue project. Last year, my mom gave me two shoeboxes full of our family slides to digitize (within the shoeboxes were 38 boxes of either 24 or 36 slides) taken between the mid 1950’s and early 1970’s. I bought a Kodak scanner (which also scans negatives) and spent a couple of days organizing and scanning slides. What a wonderful walk down memory lane!
One of my favorites was of me on one of my early bike rides. I love the way my mom is looking at me.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we’ve had more snow this year than the last three years combined. I don’t believe our part of Virginia got any snow while we were in Florida for two weeks, but there’s lots in next week’s forecast.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that before we left for our trip, using dry cleaner bags and other smaller clear bags, I tented a few of my house plants that like twice a week waterings and hope they survived. Fingers crossed!
- Questions:
- • How’s your weather been?
- • Do you have copies of your childhood pictures?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
Oh, what a lovely photo! The whole scene looks so serene, especially with that lovely landscape in the background. You’ve inspired me—I really should go through my parents’ old photos and slides too. Thanks for the reminder!
580 miles of cycling—impressive! At this pace, you’re well on track to hit that 6,000-mile goal this year, Debbie! ♀️
Thanks, Catrina! The scene hasn’t changed much except if the picture were taken today, a lovely koi pond would be just to the left of the apple tree, and at some point, that tree had to be replaced by a flowering peach.
My 2025 cycling goal is 5,000 miles; my husband suggested 6,000, but that seems a bit lofty. Once warm weather hits, these longer indoor weekend rides will be replaced by shorter social rides with lunch tacked on at the end. 😀
I have been wanting to digitize some of our old photos too. I’m going to check this out! Your vacation has been fun to follow along. Looks like a great adventure
Yes, compare the scanner I purchased with others available, but I found this one to be pretty easy to use.
Our vacation was a blast and I’m not looking forward to the weather we’ve got coming our way. I got very spoiled while in Florida! 😉
Glad you got good weather for your vacation!
Wow on the slides. I’m not sure where our old ones are. 🙁 Remember having to sit in the dark for slide shows?!
Yes, and it was a huge Saturday evening event!
Yay for good vacation weather! We were in Florida for 1.5 days and it was 40s and rainy sadly. But better than the sub-zero temps we’d been having here! We are back to 20s/30s in Cleveland but snow/ice every other day it seems.
Bummer that your flight was delayed and you had such lousy weather while in Florida. Sadly, we just can’t control how the weather is going to play out when we plan our trips.
Such a sweet pic! If you only knew what a role biking would play in your future years 🙂 Speaking of which…wow! Nice mileage!
Thanks, Kim!
I bet that was so much fun going back through old photos. I really want to organize some of our older photos, especially the ones from my mom’s house – going to be a time consuming project, but so worth it!
Yes, it’s time consuming, but so worth it in the end. My mom also has tons of print photos in albums that pick up where the slides left off (early 1970’s). At some point my brother or I will need to tackle those.
Naples is my favorite city in Fla. However my friends live on the other coast. Glad the weather cooperated for lots of scenic bike rides.
You don’t like coffee or tea?!?!
What a project… i can’t imagine.
We love Naples, too, and have four couple-friends who winter there. The West Palm Beach area has better cycling trails, though.
That is a beautiful photo! I wish I had pictures from when I was that little. I have my passport photo, but that doesn’t really count. 🙂
Those are impressive stats for January!
Thanks, Zenaida!
Love that throwback photo of you! So fun! I don’t recall if my mom ever had her old movies transferred over to a more “current” format. I know she talked about doing it a lot. I guess I should check.
Our old VHS movies of our own kids are currently being updated and stored “in the cloud”. Gotta love the pace of technology. Glad you enjoyed some lovely warm weather in Naples!
Thanks, Marcia!
It’s amazing that you are able to get all those photos digitized! How fun! And look how cute you are! I have some photos of my childhood, but my family always took photos of “things” not people, so… how many holiday tablescapes do you really need?
Love the monthly stats! What a great idea!
Focus and determination helped me get that daunting task done! And LOL, we have a few of those holiday tablescape pictures as well. 😉
The colors on that bottle are so pretty! *-*
I love how Kim posts her monthly stats too — I might need to start doing that too for more accountability!
Great job on getting an overdue project done! I have…so many of those, haha. Chipping away slowly!!
Sadly the seal on that water bottle broke and I had to replace the entire bottle.
It felt great to finish up my parents’ slides, but I still have plenty of other outstanding projects. 😉
