~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
It’s time again to join in on the fun and clear my conscience of recent running, biking, fitness, nutrition, and life in general faux pas. I know I’ll feel better when I’m done, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a laugh or two in the process!
I forgetfess: I thought of a great runfession this past week, but wasn’t where I could jot it down on paper or my phone. I do remember that I was doing my bedtime stretching when the idea popped into my head, but then I started daydreaming and promptly forget what it was by the time I finished. This has happened to Kim and me many times while we’re chatting during a workout and one of will say, “That’s a great runfession.” And of course by the time we finish our workout, we’ve both often forgotten the runfession.
I bikefess: I recently figured out that even though my Garmin watch doesn’t have an “indoor bike” mode, I can still use the watch for my spins in “bike” mode and edit the Garmin app after saving the ride. It wasn’t until after Kim mentioned that’s how she does her indoor rides (although her Garmin does have “indoor bike” mode) that I decided to see if my Garmin would do the same. Low and behold, it worked!
I bikefess: Because I wasn’t using my watch for indoor rides yet, Garmin didn’t award me the badge for this January Weekend 40K ride so I took a screen shot and awarded it to myself (in blog form only LOL). And then while in the hospital, Kim texted to remind me that a badge was up for grabs for the February weekend 40K ride. I was bummed because I had planned to see if using my Garmin on “indoor ride” would allow me to earn it. Since then I’ve confirmed that indeed Garmin now recognizes my indoor spins as legit.
There you have it, my most recent fessions; and you can bet that it feels good to get another set off of my chest! See you soon in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- • Do you think of a great idea only to forget it later if you don’t write it down?
- • Do you use all of the features on your fitness devices? ~ not even close
- • What are your runfessions?

I love how you just claimed that badge for yourself, Debbie — totally deserved! Sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands.
And oh man, I feel you on the runfession amnesia! Why do the best ideas always hit when we’re mid-stretch or deep into a workout? Garmin seriously needs a “shout and save” feature for those genius moments.
Garmin has so many features I barely even know about! I always say my Garmin does more than I do. 😉
Sounds like you are well on your way to recovery — good news!
I often think of blog or runfessions ideas while exercising or out on a walk. I usually do stop and put a note into my phone or yes, I will forget too. I am not a Garmin badge seeker but I do love those Peloton badges. There is not editing or anything on that app-so you have to just complete it the way it was intended.
Huge Garminfession: I have a saved email from January that mentions “new features on your Forerunner 255.” And I still haven’t read it! So, yes, there are many bells & whistles on said Garmin that I have yet to figure out.
Yeah no. I barely scratch the surface on the capabilities of my fitness devices. I totally forget many of my runfessions too. Why is that??
Oh my gosh, I have to write down EVERYTHING if I intend to remember it.
I haven’t used my Garmin in a long time. My apple watch is doing everything I need, and so it’s one less gadget to worry about.
I feel like my best ideas for a runfession or coffee always seem to hit me when I’m not in a place to write them down; and, these days if I don’t write things down then I have no prayer of remembering LOL!
