It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that in July I had a real coffee date with the Ultimate Coffee Date’s fabulous hosts Deborah and Coco. During our ride, we stopped at Portside Coffee for a bite to eat. Sadly, earlier in September Portside Coffee closed. Bill and I loved stopping there on Sundays for breakfast so we’ve had to find a new place to refuel…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Pablo is coming to spend the weekend with us and he’s bringing our son Daniel and Daniel’s girlfriend Jess with him! They’ll be here this afternoon and I can’t wait to see them!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that before a run one morning at 4:55 while attempting to put away a large pasta pot, I dropped it on my glass cooktop. It knocked a chunk of glass shards out of the cooktop’s edge which sent a crack across the back eye. Just goes to show that nothing good happens after 2 AM!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that yesterday I had my cooktop replaced with an induction cooktop. It blows my mind how quickly water boils on induction heat. I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it and I’m even more sure that I’ll be burning a few things as I get used to the how quickly things heat up.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m getting into the fall decorating mood and put out my fall wreaths, pumpkins and what few Halloween decorations I have. Below are Pier 1 hurricanes and Pier 1 inspired floral arrangement. Now if only the weather would cooperate – it’s supposed to reach 90° later this weekend!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I don’t care for pumpkin spice drinks or foods, but I do love how everyone gets so excited about it each fall. Most likely the only pumpkin thing I’ll eat this fall is a slice of pumpkin roll on Thanksgiving morning at our Cruisers brunch after our race.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that my friend Miles‘ friend Jeannie Rice set a world record for her age group in a recent 5K. She ran the Labor Day John Clay 5K with a time of 21:38 (6:56 pace). Oh, did I mention that she’s in the 70-74 year old age group? Congrats, Jeannie!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you, that speaking of biking, I picked up my new Salsa Journeyman on September 12th. From Salsa’s website: “Journeyman is our all-road bike designed with the versatility to fulfill a wide variety of missions, from backroad wandering to bikepacking to riding or racing gravel.” I’d also tell you that I love my new bike and named it Zephyr!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’ve started clipping in when riding my bike. Clipping in was easy to learn and I did great until about two seconds after I asked my husband how long he thought it would be until I had my first accident due to forgetting to unclip. I rode into our garage thinking I’d unclip as I stopped, but couldn’t get either shoe to unclip. I sort of fell over sideways on the concrete floor in what seemed like slow motion. I landed on Bill’s bike which was leaning against the wall and I got scraps and bruises on my elbow and knee. I also learned a valuable lesson: unclip as I’m riding down the street in case I can’t unclip and need a little more time to do it.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I bought this robe (affiliate link) to wear home in my car after my sweaty runs and it does the trick – no more trying to keep a towel up behind my back and between me and my seat/shoulder belts!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup! Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
- Do you see yourself setting any world records anytime in your future? ~ Me neither…
- Have you had to replace an appliance because due to your klutziness you broke it?

I always unclip way before I need to stop. I’ve had too many crashes! If you have to stop fast, unclipping is definitely a challenge!
I don’t even know what an induction cooktop is. I still have an old fashioned range, which is really impossible to break. Maybe that’s a good thing? My whole house needs an update…
Even though I bought a GE cooktop, I found this description from Frigidaire explains induction cooking best: “Induction cooking uses electric currents to directly heat pots and pans through magnetic induction. Instead of using thermal conduction (a gas or electric element transferring heat from a burner to a pot or pan), induction heats the cooking vessel itself almost instantly.” So far I’m loving it, but did have to buy new induction pots because only one of my pots was made of a magnetic grade of stainless steel.
About unclipping – believe me, I learned to unclip early after that fall!
Oh no about the coffee shop! It was such a cute place. And yikes on the cooktop but yeah for the new one. I love my gas cooktop but water takes its time.
I know – I was so bummed to see the coffee shop close. We really enjoyed stopping there while out on our rides.
While researching my purchase, I was surprised to learn that it takes a minute longer for water to boil on a gas stove than electric. I always thought it was the other way around. Induction takes about four minutes less time than regular electric.
Bummer on the stove cracking but hey sounds like an upgrade. Love the robe idea! I may have to try that
Yes, I hated having to replace something that was working perfectly fine until I broke it, but at least I got an upgrade out of it. I would have really hated to spend that much money to end up with the exact same thing.
My friend Miles came up with the robe idea and I just copied him and his Florida running friends. 😀
So very cool when bloggers meat up in real live! Great having virtual coffee with you.
Thanks, same here!
I have NEVER clipped in! Too chicken!!! I know I would fall, and probably break an elbow. Not a fan of the pumpkin spice thing, either. I can take or leave pumpkin pie or cookies.
It looks like your new bike is really light! That’s great. My hubby just got a trailer hitch installed on our car so that we can get a bike rack to put on it. We are planning to ride more rails to trails on our mountain bikes when he retires in December. Zephyr is a great name!
We have the trailer hitch bike rack as well and it’s great. My backup camera doesn’t like it, though, and beeps any time we’re in reverse because it thinks we’re about to back into two bikes. LOL
Never thought of that! 🙂
An induction cooktop sounds kinda awesome–one of the biggest things I look forward to in someday having my own place = an amazing kitchen! *-*
I still have to name my bike!! I’m looking forward to hoping doing a little more biking now that it’s somewhat cooler!
I had a chance to use my cooktop a lot over the weekend and I really like it. Here’s hoping you get your dream kitchen soon!
[…] Friday – A 5K World Record, Cracking My Cooktop, And Isn’t It Supposed To Be Fall? […]
Ouch on the cooktop! But I’d love to hear how you’re still feeling about the induction later on. Not that I’m changing my stove any time soon, but I like to have reviews.
Your’e supposed to worry about being sweaty after a run when you get in your car? Seriously, it never even occurred to me.
I’m definitely never gonna set a record, but wow! She’s fast!
So far I am really loving my induction cooktop and will try to remember to update you on my thoughts after I’ve used it for several months. With the holidays just around the corner, I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use it.
That same lady, Jeannie Rice, also set a world record at this year’s Chicago Marathon with a time of 3:27:50 (7:56 pace). And remember, she’s 70 years old…
I would tell you that I wouldn’t be as late for coffee as I am with this comment. It must have scrolled right off my screen when I opened it. Oops
Love your runner & decorations!
Thanks! And hey, at least you beat this Fridays ultimate coffee post. 😉
