The first time I heard about Yaktrax was back in 2007 when running with a friend, make that, trying to run with a friend on a very icy and snowy W&OD Trail. He was wearing something on his shoes that reminded me of a pair of tire chains. He confidently plowed ahead, while I dodged icy spots and held my arms out for extra balance. He finished his run and left his Yaktrax with me to try while I finished a few more miles. Even though they were a little big, they worked great; and I went home and ordered a pair each for Bill and me!
Since that day, I’ve run many miles in my old Yaktrax Pros. I remember one 20-mile run on packed snow that had melted and refrozen. Had I not been wearing my Yaktrax, that would have been a long and dangerous run; or I would have been stuck inside on the treadmill. I’ve used my Yaktrax to run on ice, sleet, fresh powder, packed snow, and even through icy slush; and I’ve completed each run safely and confidently.
And just in case I didn’t explain clearly enough how well they help with traction, I’ll share this from the Yaktrax website:
WINTER TRACTION FOR ALL YOU DO
The Yaktrax RUN is the only traction device anatomically designed to meet the needs of runners braving the winter elements. Run naturally on packed snow and ice with the Yaktrax Run’s combination of removable spikes and steel coils, providing 360° of unbeatable traction. Continue your training during the winter with the same stability you are accustomed to on dry surfaces. The Yaktrax Run can be worn in temperatures as low as ‑41° Fahrenheit.
When I was contacted by Yaktrax this fall to test and review Yaktrax Run, I readily agreed and asked if they would also give a pair of Yaxtrax Run to one of my readers. And they said, “Yes!”
My new Yaxtrax Run arrived in early November, complete with a storage bag.
The Run have a removable reflective toe straps, and Velcro fastener across the top of the shoe.
The Run also have removable carbine steel spikes, and abrasion-resistant steel coils.
Some days the trails can be unpredictable – they can be treacherous in shaded areas, yet completely clear where the sun has been shining. When coming across conditions like that while wearing Yaktrax, be sure to pick-and-choose the snow covered spots to run on. Yaktrax are not designed to be worn on surfaces cleared of snow, as it can cause damage to the spikes, coils, and rubber straps.
Last Tuesday we had our first decent snow of the season, so Bill and I strapped on our Yaktrax and headed out to run.
It seemed like we spent more time running back and forth in front of our GoPro to capture the perfect running shot of our Yaktrax in action, than we spent running!
My Yaktrax Pro have served me well for years, and I’m confident my Yaktrax Run will be no different.

I have a pair to review as well but haven’t had the chance. The boys had no school with the snow, so I wasn’t able to get outside and test them!! I’m looking forward to trying them though! Oh! I sent you an email, so be on the lookout…got a few questions for you!

Awesome, you’ll love them, especially if you’re new to Yaktrax!
Did you notice that my Rafflecopter was a link, and not a widget? I’m still having problems. Did you get yours straightened out in your last giveaway? I never did, even after trouble-shooting with them.
I would like to have a pair to use for running.
Great giveaway! If I won I’d use them for running/walking. I’ve avoided going out in the recent snow/ice these would encourage me to get off my bum!!!
I bet those would be way better than the ones I have! I am still a little scared to run in them though.

Yaktrax are necessary for winter running in Colorado! Jus this past weekend I was ice skating on my 9 mile run and wishing I had them on!
I can’t believe you’ve been running in all that ice and snow without Yaktrax. Good luck in the giveaway!
I’d use them for anything that might require them! I tend to err on the side of caution. 🙂 I think I have a really old pair of the general purpose ones in my car (from when I lived in the Midwest or WV) in case I got stuck. I need to see if they’re still there and usable!

Go dig those puppies out of your car! 🙂
Almost bit it on the ice last night – these seem necessary for Midwest running!
I would wear them while running!
Oh, I raced in a Donut Dash prediction run this weekend with my two young sons. I ran with my 8 year old and was only off by 1 second!
Sounds like your 8-year old is a speedy little guy! So fun!
I am newbie snow runner, so would love to give them a whirl!!
I have always said ice and lightning are my only two ‘no go’ running conditions. Last year I had one day that even in my trail shoes it just was like skating … I could really have used Yakthax!

I’d use them to survive running outside during this east coast winter without fear of falling!
Id use them to train in Chacago- vacay coming up soon
These look amazing and would so come in handy as my hubby and I will be moving to the No East and getting ready to brave and run in the snow!!
I enjoy running outside and these would be helpful as we will be moving to the northeast. These would be great to use!!!
I’d wear them running! Eliminate some of my treadmill days!!
I would love to have a pair for running!
I would use them to run in this icy mess!
I live in the snowy mountains of Vermont – I NEED these if I want to keep my toes from turning into toesicles!

I would wear my yak trax to run! I borrowed a pair just this weekend to run my first ever trail race. There was a foot of snow on the ground and it was negative degrees! They were LIFESAVERS! I need a pair of my own as I have too many stories to share. Yes, my name is Amanda and I am a klutz!
Glad your borrowed Yaktrax worked well for you!
these would be great–I live in Minnesota and run in the snow!
I would love a pair of yaktraks so I can run outside in the winter. Would love to be on the trails right now!!!
It would be handy to keep a pair of these in the truck in case I got stuck in the ice/snow. The first real Winter I’ve ever experienced was only 3 years ago… my truck did get stuck once. I had to walk in the woods because it was the only place I could get any traction!
I am from Wisconsin, and would love to try a run in these!

I love my YakTrax. But I don’t have the running ones, I’d love to give them a workout!

The Yaktrax would come in handy during these winter months while training for a spring marathon. These winters seems to just keep getting worse!
There are not many snow days in Ashburn, VA but when it snows, it snows. And it freezes. And it is slippery. And it is dangerous. I would love to have this pair of YakTrax to cruise around town when the entire place hurts down (this last week!) and see all of the cool points of interest we miss when we are driving. That is why I enjoy running – it allows me to take things slowly and observe everything around me. And with Yaktrax I won’t have crazy snow and ice to stop me from doing so. You might say that I can still run with them. That is true. I recently saw some crazy video that gave you tips on embedding screws into the bottom of your running shoes as a means of getting a cheap support system. I would rather skip that step and go with the tried and tested, professional solution!
I saw the screws in the running shoe thing, too. I’d rather strap my Yaktrax on and off as needed!
I would use the Yaktrax for marathon training and some shorter races coming up in February.
I’ve been living in Chicago now for a year and a half and have been looking for some way not to slip on the snow mounds around Lincoln Park! These would be great!

I’d definitely love these to run on the roads and trails here in Michigan! I’ve always wanted a pair!

I would use it for my every day walking!
The temps here have been hovering right around zero with negative wind chills leaving the ground slippery with packed snow and ice, the Yaktrax would be a blessing!
That sounds miserable, but with Yaktrax you’d hopefully stay upright and finish your run without falling!
I’d like to win the Yaktrax because it could be a good omen, if I have them in my closet ready to go then I won’t need them…in short, the weather will be better!
Like washing your car if you need it to rain!
We had a heat wave yesterday, upper 30s. My guess is that its the calm before the storm, weather man says more cold weather headed our way. My kids love the snow so at least they are happy!
