New Years Resolutions Means New Clients
With the New Year/New Me focus all over social media, it’s not surprising that getting fit and losing weight is a top New Year’s resolution for many people. As a result, I had three new clients this past week. New clients always take a little extra time – getting their health history, helping them set realistic goals, and planning their workouts accordingly. I love my job and the opportunity it provides in meeting so many nice people and helping them reach their goals!
First Snow of 2020
We had our first snow of 2020 on Tuesday which hit during the afternoon while I was teaching a class. Fortunately, the gym has floor to ceiling windows on two walls so I could occasionally glance outside and enjoy watching huge snowflakes float down from the heavens while I discussed the importance of continuing to exercise as we age with my 55+ students.
Wednesday morning treated us to a beautiful sunrise and I captured the sun glistening off the trees across the creek from our back yard. Even though we only got a couple of inches of snow, the neighborhood children wasted no time in wearing down a path to the grass underneath while sledding on the hill on Tuesday afternoon.
Undecorating after the Holidays
What I missed in workouts, I made up for in getting things organized. I spent close to five hours last Sunday afternoon carrying Christmas decorations from various rooms in the house to the basement. On Monday evening, I spent two hours putting everything back into huge Rubbermaid boxes, and on Tuesday evening I spent at least three hours undecorating the tree, taking it down, boxing it up, and dragging the two boxes to the basement storage room. With that, Christmas 2019 is behind us and we are already looking forward to spring.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
After feeling really good all week I had thought I’d try running a mile on the treadmill yesterday morning, but I woke up with my SI joint nagging me (I must have slept in a weird position) so I skipped my run – I haven’t run since December 30th. It’s been very sporadic with when it bothers, so much so, that I’ve been in denial that I actually have anything wrong. Sadly, I think it’s time to visit my doctor…
Biking
I had big plans to workout on my spin bike (affiliate link) several times this past week, but only managed to get on it once. Here’s hoping that I’ll be better at it this week.
Strength Training
At least strength training is going well, nothing hurts when I lift, and I got all three sessions in last week.
Yoga
I focused on gentle stretches for my lower back/SI joint area and one day I did Judy‘s Quick Relax Your Back Yoga routine. Even with her gentle approach, I had to make a few adjustments to keep my back happy.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – A Low-keyed Start to the New Year
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- • Have you injured yourself by sleeping in a weird position?
- • Did you make any New Year’s resolutions or set any goals for 2020?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

My neck sometimes feels weird when I sleep on it funny. Hope your back continues to feel better. Crazy weather around here!
I hardly remember sleeping funny bothering my body when I was younger. LOL
So sorry to hear that you are dealing with another injury, Deb. Even if it is caused by sleeping in the “wrong” position.
Wasn’t the snow beautiful this past week? It stuck to the trees and we had a gorgeous sunrise here in PA too. Yesterday the temperature got up into the 70s and today the 60s, so it is completely gone, which is a good thing. People here do not do a good job clearing their sidewalks, which makes running in town very dicey!

Thanks, Laurie!
I’m sorry about your back, but happy that the strength is going well, at least that’s something. Yep, probably time to turn the problem over to someone else a.k.a. a doctor. Good luck and best wishes for healing.

Thanks, Beckett! I’m hoping to get in with my doctor’s PA this week. I usually takes a month to get an appointment with him…
I’m so sorry to hear that your SI joint is bothering you – I really hope that it starts to feel better soon.
That snow looks beautiful! Our weather was all over the place this week but we’ve had 60 degree weather all weekend which has been crazy – especially for January!
Thanks, Kim! Same here with the weather – it’s been all over the place.
Sorry to hear about your back and the pain it’s caused you. I would recommend getting it formally checked out Good luck!
Thanks, Jessie!
Are you getting PT for the SI joint dysfunction? I hope you get it resolved soon!
Not yet… It was feeling so much better that I though I was good to go, but it reared its ugly head yesterday morning after doing nothing different (and still no running) all week.
My back has been cranky recently…not daily, but definitely more than usual. I think it’s from sleeping weird, but I have no idea what I’m doing in my sleep LOL Thankfully, after I’ve been up and moving (or gone for a run or a walk), it’s much better. I finally got the majority of out Christmas decorations down this last week. I recruited the hubby and son to help with the 9-ft tree during half time of the game last night (I already had the ribbons and ornaments done), and we it went fast with two extra sets of hands!
Fingers crossed that your back isn’t something chronic and it’s just a temporary thing.
Bill helped me get the tree into the boxes and carried to the basement. That was huge!
Have a great week, Kim!
Sorry that your back is bothering you! I have definitely messed up my back and neck by sleeping weird. It’s so frustrating! I hope you get it figured out quickly!
Thanks, Lisa!
I’m sorry to hear your SI is acting up. I hope you can get relief from that.
Thanks for linking to my video!
All those hours putting everything away — seriously, when do you sleep? I’m still working on decluttering, I’ve moved on to “my” room after doing our family room downstairs. I haven’t had a whole lot time, so it’s a little bit here, a little bit there.
Strength training was definitely lacking for me last week, but I feel better now so it was the right thing for me. It’s already on my schedule for today. 🙂
Gotta laugh at your snow a little, while all of ours is gone, they’re predicting another decent storm this weekend. I hope they’re wrong!
Thanks, Judy! The gentle stretching is helping, but there’s still an underlying issue I’ve got to get figured out.
Schools closed for two days and the federal government closed early because of that little amount of snow…
Great job! We are still undecorating. I can’t do very much at one time, so it’s been a process. Like everything else.
I don’t think I’ve ever hurt myself beyond a stiff neck while sleeping.
I can only imagine how much longer it takes you to do everything while you’re injured and wearing your boot. It must be very frustrating!
Sorry to hear about your back. A few years ago I also had back pain. Visits to the chiropractor and massages helped me so much and I swear that is how I got better. Right now my back sometimes hurt is I sleep on my back the whole night. I do change positions throughout the night. My mattress is 10 years old so maybe that is what’s causing the pain.

Thanks! I’m embarrassed to admit how old our mattress is… We got it when our youngest son was about four and kept crawling in bed with us in the middle of the night and we needed to move up to a king size bed!
What a gorgeous snowrise. I saw a friend’s Insta the day you had snow and was surprised, this was our first that stuck.
My knee if I sleep with my leg locked is often mad at me

We were hoping for a little snow yesterday, but we only got a very light dusting which got washed away with rain later in the day…
Our bodies really should rebel so much when we’re giving them the opportunity to rest at night, right?
We had maybe 2-3 inches, then it turned to freezing rain / sleet. We’ve had a mild winter, but I still don’t love it.
And exactly. They should relish

That sounds like the DC area – so many of our snows turn over to rain before they end…
