It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you please join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I started physical therapy yesterday and really like my new therapist. I’ll talk a little more about it in Sunday’s Weekly RunDown after I’ve completed another session and have several days of homework under my belt.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that again this year after her visit to Florida for Christmas, Jess gave us two huge avocados from her parents’ yard. After just a few days they ripened to perfection and I was able to make two batches of guacamole. Here’s my recipe…
- Deb’s Guacamole
- 4 avocados (I just used this one)
- 1 bunch scallions, chopped
- 1 large tomato, diced
- 1 freshly squeezed lime
- freshly ground pepper, to taste
- coarse Kosher salt, to taste
So yummy!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that two weeks ago on my Weekly Rundown I mentioned that I’d been super busy redecorating our guest bedroom and even used it as an excuse for why I’d spent zero time working out on my spin bike.
I’d purchased this very busy comforter set many years ago and made the brown valances and orange throw pillows to complete the room. I eventually grew weary of the look and decided it was time to redecorate. Since Bill and I both love the soothing color – Restoration Hardware’s silver sage – I decided not to repaint and simply redecorate with new linens and a few new items.
The new full/queen comforter I purchased looked too small on the queen size bed so I returned it for a king size and gave it a custom fit. Unfortunately, it required that I carefully remove the trim from the edge, cut it to size, and sew the trim back on rather than simply hemming the too-long edge. I didn’t like the design of the new pillow shams and was able to completely redesign them when I cut them down from king to queen size.
The new bedskirt was a great find on Amazon, the headboard was a very inexpensive purchase from Wayfair, and the lamp came from Home Goods. Just a few changes at very reasonable prices and I gave our guest bedroom a whole new and much more soothing look!
Who wants to come visit?
By the way, the old trunk pictured above belonged to my grandmother who used it to transport her belongings to Emory and Henry College. She also rode a horse home from college occasionally on weekends – it’s a 45-minute drive by car!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that our annual Italian Dinner Party is in two weeks and Bill and I can’t wait to host this very fun evening with our dear friends! In anticipation, I created an Italian Dinner Party Pinterest board a couple of weeks ago and plan on making a variation of the little cork place holders. I purchased an Italian dish towel (affiliate link) because I’ve got to be authentic when drying the dishes and I have a thing for flour sack towels.
More importantly, we have a huge surprise for our guests, but I don’t dare share that until after the dinner party because a couple of my guests read my blog. You’ll have to wait until next month to see what we have up our sleeves!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we’ve been purging and throwing out so much stuff lately! We emptied an entire four-drawer filing cabinet and gave the cabinet to one of my clients. Going paperless certainly does help clear up the clutter (I haven’t gone paperless on everything… yet) and it felt so good to get rid of the old paperwork that had been stuffed but not touched in our filing cabinet for over seventeen years. We ended up with five boxes of paper that we took to be shredded.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that while we were in a cleaning out mood, we donated four large boxes of books to my friend Betty who volunteers for our county’s annual library book sale fundraiser. It had been on our to do list for ages and it felt so good to finally check it off.
Pablo approved of the more organized library shelves!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we hosted a happy hour for our cul-de-sac neighbors last Friday evening. We love hosting happy hours, but it had been several months since we’d invited any friends over. Our goal is to host once per month, but we’re lucky to do it quarterly… In addition to beer and wine, I usually make a signature cocktail to serve – this time it was a blueberry martini.
I got the idea for making these yummy little humus stuffed sweet peppers on Pinterest. I spooned humus in a plastic bag, cut off a corner, and piped it into the seeded pepper halves.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that the Amaryllis bulb that our lawn guy gave to us for Christmas is blooming and it’s one of the prettiest we’ve received over the years.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Seriously, when do you sleep? I’d love to visit! I’m afraid our “guest” bedroom is Mr. Judy’s spare bedroom (aka do with as he likes), and it’s a mess. And only has a futon. It’s been years since it’s been used & that shows! Yours looks really inviting.
I may be on for Thanksgiving again this year . . . good thing I have stuff pinned from previous years. 🙂
I suppose that I’m lucky that I don’t need as much sleep as a lot of people (I get about two hours per night less than my husband), but I have gotten better about getting to bed earlier.
I love getting ideas from Pinterest even though I actually try a very small percentage of what I pin.
Wow, that’s busy! Those hummus-stuffed peppers sound delish! I love the bedroom update (but actually like the first version, too). And, sweet Pablo!!!! I like entertaining, too…it’s my incentive for cleaning LOL We hosted a party a week ago for the sun’s UofI College of Business graduation, and had our younger daughter’s community college graduation back in early November. We’re working on reviving our card group…so that’s in the works for another “clean the house” endeavor.
Nothing makes me tidy up like having friend visit either!
Guess what – we got an unexpected visit from Pablo today for the weekend! Yesterday was Daniel’s birthday and they came over to celebrate with us!
Aw man I am so jealous that you have friends who give you homegrown avocados, that has to be the best guac ever. And blueberry martinis, just yum!

The guac was amazing! Every time Jess (our youngest son’s girlfriend) visits her parents in Florida, she brings us back homegrown avocados. We’re so lucky!
Love me some fresh guacamole and I like the idea of piping the hummus into the peppers like that. Yum! Your guest room looks nice. Glad the PT is going well look forward to hearing more

Thanks, Deborah! So far, so good!
You lost me at redesigning the comforter and re-doing the pillow shams! The guest room looks great! The hummus-stuffed peppers are so cute! What a great idea. Love the guac recipe too — and that one avocado stood in for four!
LOL, my mom taught me to sew when I was a little girl and as a result, I’m a very good seamstress. I just don’t enjoy sewing any more.

It’s funny, for over a year and a half, Pablo wouldn’t go into our library even if Bill and I were both in there working. This last visit he started going in there to nap on the rug. Go figure!
Weird how brains work!
