It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you please join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I had expected to tell you that today I’d gone on my first run/walk at physical therapy after my ongoing back injury/numb foot issues, but instead I decided to invite the flu (type A) virus to set up shop in my body so I had to cancel all appointments for the rest of the week (work and otherwise). And, yes, I got a flu shot in the fall. Incidentally, I rocked my doctor’s office issued face mask when I stopped by the pharmacy to pick up my Tamiflu prescription.
Enough whining about being sick, injured, etc., let’s move on to more fun things!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that our family has the most exciting news to share! Our son and daughter-in-law are moving from New Jersey to a nearby town about twenty minutes away! Now both of our sons live within a 45-minute drive and this momma’s heart is exploding with joy!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you remember last month when I said that our annual Italian Dinner Party would be in two weeks and that we had a huge surprise for our guests? Well, the surprise was these gorgeous custom wine glasses for each guest to take home, complete with their name engraved on the base of the stem. Our guests loved the glasses and had loads of fun teasing us by saying that they can never be removed from the guest list now that they own official glasses with their names on them!

I also ordered these mini chalk board signs (affiliate link) for labeling the food on our buffet. These will be very useful for happy hours and our annual Memorial Day weekend barbecue.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you know about the Stopwatch app. I love it because it doesn’t go to sleep while in use like the iPhone’s clock stopwatch does, and I don’t have tap the screen to be able to see how long I’m holding my plank, etc. At the moment I’m only allowed to plank for 30 seconds at a time, but I’m using the app for my clients’ planks and anything else I need to time while at the gym.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m known in my family for being very cheap when it comes to certain things… like not wasting lotion, toothpaste, etc. Yes, I was raised by two parents who lived through the depression so I had not being wasteful drilled into my head from a very young age. For example, I could have thrown this bottle of lotion (affiliate link) away when I could no longer pump any more out, but instead I cut the bottle so that I could use the remaining 1/6 of the bottle. Based on a retail price of $10-12 , every time I do this I save about $1.75. Multiply that by about eight bottles a year and I’m saving $14 on just my lotion.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I was so pleased by how well our guest bedroom redecoration turned out that I got antsy to give one of our son’s old bedroom a new look.
I’d purchased this rather drab quilt set many years ago and made the brown valances to complete the room. As I move away from the dark colors and try to make our bedrooms feel more inviting, I’ve kept the previous paint colors and window treatments and used new linens to reach my goal.
I found the quilt set at Macy’s, the throw at Bed Bath & Beyond, the bedskirt at Amazon, and the decorative pillow and vase at Home Goods.
BTW, Bill and I purchased the antique brass bed just before we got married. It’s only a full size, but because of its sentimental value, we’ve kept it.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that one of my clients just stopped by with homemade chicken noodle that she made for me after I texted yesterday afternoon to cancel our appointment for this morning. She texted that she was out front and then got a safe distance from the front door when I opened it to retrieve my goodies. I have the nicest clients!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • Do you use every last drop of your products or do you consider it not worth the effort?
- • Have you been able to stay clear of the various viruses going around?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Hope you are feeling better. So far the germs have kept away.
You need add catering to your resume.
I think I’m pretty cheap too. My background.
Thanks, I’m feeling better every day. Glad you’ve been able to avoid all those nasty germs out there this winter!
LOL on the catering. I do enjoy entertaining, but I’d get sick of it if I had to do it for a living.
Oh no! Debbie you cannot catch a break lately. So sorry to read you have (had?) the flu. Hope you’re feeling better.
Lucky you for having your son and DIL move closer to you! I still have one son 2000 miles away and one 3000 miles away (but I held on to my youngest!) 🙂

Thank you! Of course, it could be much worse, but I am bummed to be stuck in my house feeling crappy (feeling lots better today, though). There are lots of errands I’d love to be running, but I don’t need to be spreading my germs all around town. 😉
I hope you feel better soon. The flu is nasty.
I will do my best to use up soaps and shampoo/conditioner (because I can unscrew the top and get to the product), but I probably wouldn’t go so far as to cut the bottle.
Your Italian Dinner Party sounds amazing. Those glasses are so thoughtful and perfect.

Thanks, Jenn!
Oh I really hope that you are feeling better now! I use the mini chalkboards all the time for parties they are great. Fantastic that your other son is moving nearby as well. Thanks for linking up for coffee
Thanks, Deborah! Yes, I’m feeling much better – just working on getting my energy back.
Gosh, we really should be friends 🙂 I save my lotion bottles that are “unpumpable” until I have three or four, then stand them all upside-down for an hour… then dump all the remains into one of the bottles LOL I’d not thought of cutting the bottle…thx! Hope you’re feeling better!!!!
For real! The reason I have to cut the Gold Bond bottles open is because the lotion is too thick to drain out of the bottle. It just stays in a glob in the bottom. LOL
And thanks, I’m feeling better every day. Just don’t have all of my energy back yet.
Oh my gosh — that homemade soup sounds fantastic. That was so sweet! You sure went all out with the wine glasses – so fun! Yay on your son moving closer – that is nice.
The soup was very good and yes, that was so sweet of my client to make it for me. We are thrilled that J and J are moving back to NOVA!
Sorry to hear you have the flu. That stinks, especially with the warm weather approaching. Hopefully it will be short-lived.
I’m with you on not wasting ANYTHING – also the child of Depression-era parents. I do the same with lotions and use the back of a flat comb to flatten and squeeze every last bit of toothpaste out of the tube!
That was sweet of your client to bring the soup to you. Feel better!

Thanks, Linda!
And thanks for the back-of-the-comb tip for toothpaste! I’m sure my children will shake their heads over that one. LOL
Oh Debbie, I’m so sorry that you’re sick, you certainly have had more than your share of setbacks this winter but it’s just a little speedbump and running will be waiting for you as soon as the flu takes a hike. But more importantly, Gold Bond rocks! Over the years my thriftiness has evolved from pinching every penny to focusing on more of the big picture stuff. I’m totally willing to throw out a tube of toothpaste without squeezing every last drop but you better believe that I cut my Gold Bond tubes open because that stuff is just too good to waste.

Thanks, Beckett! I’m feeling better, but surprised by how low I am in the energy department.
Isn’t Gold Bond the best? I have extremely dry skin and it is one of the few lotions that does the trick. In my opinion, it’s liquid gold so I’m going to use every drop of it! LOL
Feel better! Such a nice client
Love the wine glasses, and totally helps for the “is that my wine or yours?” moments. We use the BBQ signs and I love them.
Thanks, Cari!
