It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you read my review of Run to the Light (affiliate link) by Laura King Edwards, and if you left a comment so you’d be entered to win a free copy of your very own (Kindle or paperback). It’s not too late, so hop on over and check out my review, leave a comment, and cross your fingers that you’re the lucky winner.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that out of all the people, groups, and hashtags I follow on Instagram, #findyourpark is by far my favorite. Check them out. I guarantee you’ll be glad you did!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I ran in a New Year’s Day race despite being sick and injured. Even though I’ve been struggling a little with my running, I felt fine when I signed up on Friday evening and thought that if my glute/hammie started hurting I’d just run/walk or walk the rest of the race. FOMO dictated I run the race with my friends even though I’d come down with some sort of bad head cold and had barely gotten off the sofa on Sunday or Monday. Fortunately, thanks to taking some cold meds I woke up feeling good enough to join my friends and we all stayed together running a very slow race, but laughing lots. I hope to get the race recap up next week.
After the race, we stopped by Starbucks for coffee (hot chocolate for me) and to visit some more. The 5K just didn’t last long enough for all we had to gab about!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you remember that my medal from my Thanksgiving Day turkey trot was MIA. The race director told me that her notes showed that it had either been given to me or to one of my friends. I checked with everyone I could think of who might have picked it up for me at the awards ceremony but no one had. It ended up that it had been given to the lady who won the age group one group older than mine, and the only reason I know this is that she stopped by the running store to ask what she should do. One of my friends just happened to be working and called me to see if I had mistakenly gotten the other lady’s medal. That was weeks ago and as far as I know, the lady hasn’t dropped the medal off at the store.
In the meantime, the race director had already ordered a new medal for me. When I saw her at the race on New Year’s morning, she said she it had arrived and she had it on her desk. I laughed and told her to be sure to get it to me before next Thanksgiving! 😉
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that about the huge avocado Jess brought home to us from Florida. I placed it next to an average sized lime for contrast. I used it to make about 3-1/2 cups of delicious guacamole.
Here’s my recipe:
- Deb’s Guacamole
- 4 avocados (I just used this one)
- 1 small red onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1 freshly squeezed lime
- freshly ground pepper, to taste
- coarse Kosher salt, to taste
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you about the fun coaster for race medals I received from Kudos Coaster Plus a couple of weeks ago in exchange for a posting a picture on my Instagram (I suppose I should tag this as an ad). It’s so cool I wanted to tell you about it now, but next week on the blog I plan to post some step-by-step pictures of how easy it is to put together and even change the background.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup! Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
- If you live in a warmer climate, do you have an avocado tree? ~ I want one, but I guess I have to move first…
- Isn’t the coaster idea cool?

Oh, that coaster is cool! LOL on the medal mix-up. If you get it by Thanksgiving you can turn it into a coaster for yourself for next Christmas. 🙂 I love avocados but rarely get them for home because the ripeness timing is so tricky.
Great idea; now I just need to get my medal in time! LOL
Sorry to read about that head cold and that your injury is still hanging on. I have never really been injured before this hip injury, but I just can’t seem to shake it. That avocado looks amazing! I have tried planting avocado pits before and I did get some avocado trees, but I figured, what is the point? I can’t plant them outside anyway. Too cold in PA.

I finally mad an appointment for my injury. Sadly, I made it with my spine doctor because I’m pretty sure it’s my back and therefore it’s actually my sciatic nerve acting up… Unfortunately, the earliest available appointment isn’t until the end of January.
One of my college friends had an avocado tree in her dorm room, a holdover from a high school science project. It never produced any fruit, though.
Glad you felt up for running and fun-ing.
That avocado, WHOA!
And wholly agree re: Find Your Park. We did some work with NPS on the centennial and there is just so much great content in the hashtag

Thanks, Cari!
Oh I really like those coasters-would be a fun gift too. Holy Guacamole I’d love a huge avocado. thanks for catching up over coffee today!
I had no idea that avocados got so big. It was impressive!
Now you have me interested, will be checking out #findyourpark!
You sound like me with being sick and running! I was sick on Tuesday (still dealing with this crud), and still did a NYD run. We can be so stubborn.
Jeez, that’s quite a big avocado! And, love the medal coaster idea, so neat.
Yep, I’d say that we runners are about the most stubborn group of people on the planet. 😉
I am not an avocado fan, but the hubby stumbled upon a guacamole recipe that made me less apprehensive (basically, three mashed avocados and some picante sauce). I like your recipe with the onion and lime juice, though…I’m gonna give that a try!
Oh cool, I hope you like it!
I hope you’re feeling better–glad that you still got to run the race with friends!
That guacamole recipe sounds tasty! I need to make more again once I get my hands on some less-expensive avocados! 😛
Do you have a Trader Joe’s near you? Their produce is usually much more affordable.
That avocado must be on steroids! As long as it tastes good…
You’re so lucky to be getting a replacement medal. I don’t hear that happening much around here. It’s kind of a “too bad, so sad” thing.

The avocado tasted every bit as delicious as any other I’ve ever had, and there was a lot more of it to enjoy! 😀
if we were having coffee I’d say, speaking of hashtags, have you ever just looked at #fitness ? I did that this week and it was almost all practically nude people. I’m no prude but what the heck??
that avocado is INSANE! I bet the guac was really tasty! I don’t think the tree would survive here in the Netherlands. Ii would also tell you over coffee that I had the best tasting avocados in my entire life when I was in Rwanda. They were perfectly ripe, you could pick them off the tree and just slice into them… and it was like spreading butter on toast… mmmmmm….. love avocados!!
I love the coaster idea!! At some point I’d like to do something with special medals instead of having them take up space in various drawers around the house (the medal racks are full).
I do have a race coming up, I think in 4 weeks time. It’s an 8KM race. It’s actually for training purposes but I have to try to run it as fast as I can (as per my coach). Fingers crossed – it’s not a flat race at all (contrary to popular belief not all of the Netherlands is flat, certainly not where I live).

Ohhh, I love avocado toast! The first I had was this past summer in NYC.
Good luck at your upcoming 8K! I don’t have anything on my calendar until a 5K in early May.
