It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
First of all, I’d tell you that I am not making this up! I saw a guy at the gym doing single-arm bent over rows and as soon as he finished his first set with his right arm, he took off his Fitbit (affiliate link) and moved it to his left arm before starting that set. I guess he was short on steps for the day even though he was working out!
It kind of reminded me of this scene from The Big Bang Theory! 😀
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that either Bill or I told Alexa (affiliate link) to add something to our shopping list that she thought was “plastic surgery.” Either that or Alexa now has a camera and is trying to tell us something! LOL
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that this sign cracks Bill and me up every time we see it! So far I haven’t noticed a plane taking the detour. 😉
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that at 2 AM one morning a few weeks ago one of our smoke detectors started chirping (why is it always 2 AM?). We made the decision at that point to replace all of our smoke detectors with the ten-year self-contained battery type that don’t need to have their batteries changed every six months. We also thought it was the perfect time to replaced our carbon monoxide detectors. A few days later I piled my shopping cart at Home Depot full of smoke and fire stuff.
While in Home Depot I started chatting with a gentleman that I recognized from the gym and he recommended these First Alert fire extinguishers (affiliate link). They seem much handier than the big heavy ones so I picked up a few of them. I hope we never need to use any of these items, but I feel better knowing that everything is new and in excellent working condition.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that on another trip to Home Depot, I saw these beautiful succulents and sign. Prior to Pablo joining our family I might have agreed, but now I know that isn’t true. Granddogs make easy pets – you get lots of love and joy out of them, but like grandchildren, you can give them back when you grow weary (although we welcome Pablo to visit and stay as often and as long as he wants).
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I recently heard about a genetic mutation that allows people to feel rested after 6.25 hours of sleep per night whereas most people feel sleep-deprived with less than 8-hours per night.
Since getting my Fitbit (affiliate link) several years ago, I have monitored my sleep carefully and now average around 6:15 per night, a significant improvement on the 5:30 per night average from when I first got it. Actually, I think 7 hours would be perfect for me, but I’m happy to feel as well rested as I do with where I am.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that one of our local teams made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport. They lost to the now champions from Louisiana in the quarter finals. It was so fun watching and cheering them on!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that apparently Tanisha was having trouble getting an Uber and paying with Venmo late one night last week. There were a total of five of these verification code texts from Venmo and several others with her Uber code on my phone when I woke up. They’d come in around 11 the night before after I’d gone to bed.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- What do you think we might have tried to put on our list that Alexa thought was plastic surgery?
- Do you know of anyone who has done any tricks to get more steps with their Fitbit?
- How many hours of sleep are the perfect amount for you?
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

I always feel sleep deprived. Missing that gene. Lol. Never get more than 7 hours.
I’ve bought succulents because they’re hard to kill. Though I may kill them. We’ll see.
Marathon brain. All I can think about. Lol
Well, I once watered a fake succulent for about nine months before I realized that it wasn’t real… LOL
that sounds like something I would do! Thanks for making me laugh.
To add to the story, my friend who gave it to me had received it as a gift and she had watered it for several months before passing it along to me!
I need 7.5 hours of sleep to feel totally refreshed. I can get by on 7. Very funny on the fit bit! Love the airplane detour sign. My kids used to ask me how the deer knew they were supposed to cross where the deer crossing sign is. Thanks for joining for coffee today!

I seriously couldn’t believe my eye when I saw the guy moving his Fitbit back and forth as he did his single-arm sets. That’s so cute about the deer crossing signs.
My friend’s son wears his Fitbit on his ankle b/c he thinks he gets more steps – LOL. That guy sounds a bit silly!
I generally get 6 – 6:30 hours of sleep and feel mostly OK (after a few cups of coffee).
Caffeine, the wonder drug! 😉
My hubby did RAGBRAI, a week-long bike ride across Iowa (late July). He kept posting his stats each night, with all the miles he’d ridden and how many steps. I asked him how he had the time (and energy) to get so many extra steps after all that riding (average daily ride was 3-4 hours). Turns out he’d put his Fitbit on his ankle! #cheater LOL
HaHaHa, that’s great! 😀
Alexa can definitely be amusing sometimes.
That’s funny about the dude switching his fitbit. I usually just take the dogs out for an extra walk if I’m short on steps, although before you know it it’ll be too dark & cold. 🙁
I wish I had family that could take care of the dogs occasionally!
It’s got to be stressful finding a safe place for your fur babies. I’m happy that Bill and I are so close by and can watch Pablo.
My dad loved clipping his old style FitBit to his waistband while sitting on the John Deere at the river…. you can imagine how many “steps” he logged while hitting every nook and cranny over 3 acres! I wonder if Tanisha ever got home??!!
I feel guilty that I didn’t wake up and offer Tanisha a ride! LOL
I’ve smacked my Fitbit and almost broken it when doing single arm kettlebell work so I switched it back and forth. Wonder if it was something like that? Or if he was testing to see if it was working right? One of my coworkers wore a Garmin connected to a chest strap on one wrist and an Apple watch or Fitbit on the other for a workout as a bet settling thing. (I forget the results) And I’m sure people not in the know were looking at her funny.
No, he had a dumbbell so there wasn’t any smacking going on. I haven’t seen him in the gym recently, but next time I do, I’ll have to watch and see if he does it again.
Oh Fitbit tricks. Putting it on my laces or the pedal when I used the recumbent bike. Arm cycle is way more bang for your steps buck though. #AskMeHowIKnow 😉
Feel free to add me as a fitbit friend

HaHaHaHaHa!!! I just invited you to be my Fitbit friend – if I did it correctly…
I don’t see the request
What’s your username there?

[…] Thursday – Catching Up Over Coffee: Plastic Surgery, Missed Ubers, and Airplane Detours […]
That is crazy about the fit bit! I do laugh when I reach my “step” goal mixing brownie batter …. I have a friend who is so focused on her steps she favors walking over strength training, which I am not sure is the fittest choice. :-/ We don’t have Alexa. My husband doesn’t want the Chinese spying on us. 🙂
(Sorry I’m so late meeting you for coffee!)
I’ve noticed that I get my 250 steps for the hour just standing and blow drying my hair! LOL
And about Alex, I always assume that not only are the Chinese listening in, but also Amazon employees! 😉
hahaha, love it. Kinda like when I was hearing about people attaching their fitbits to their pets’ collars. At least this guy was still the one moving? 😛
I haven’t heard of those First Alert fire extinguishers! I’ll have to look into getting a couple too (although I really hope I’d never have to use it either)!
That’s awesome that one of your local teams made it to LLWS! I got to cover that a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. The kids are all so supportive of each other!
Oh my gosh, I hadn’t thought about attaching my Fitbit to Pablo. He sleeps a lot, but when he gets the zoomies I’d get lots of steps! 😀
