It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week, the DC Trifecta chose Races To Run In 2015 as the Friday Five theme…..
I finalized my race calendar about a month ago, but I’m open to adding other races as the year progresses. I have twelve races on my calendar, but in the spirit of Friday Five, here are the five races that I’m looking forward to the most.
1. =PR= Race Series is offering four trail runs that I’m including in the list of races, even though they are not really “races.” All four organized events will have run leaders and will be run on trails at area parks. Runners can choose between 30, 60, and 90 minute runs. Post-run snacks will be provided, and a shirt was available at sign-up for those interested in purchasing one. Oh, and did I mention that all four events are free? Bill and I have several Cruisers and MRTT friends joining us for all four of these runs.
2. One of Bill’s and my favorite races is the George Washington Parkway Ten Miler. I’ve run it five times, and recapped it in two different posts. It’s run in late April when the trees are blooming and spring is in the air. The beautiful course that runs along the Potomac River from Mount Vernon to Old Town Alexandria.
As an added bonus, our friend lives along the course, and she and her dog come out every year to cheer us on. When I first met Obbie, he was a fluffy puppy, and it was love at first sight. Just last week she got a new Australian Shepherd puppy, Takoda, and I can’t wait to meet him! Both are official Cruiser mascots!
3. After hearing how much fun my friends had at the ZOOMA Annapolis Half Marathon last year, I decided that I had to run it this year. I am traveling to Annapolis with several of my MRTT friends, and we are getting a hotel the night before. I’ve only been to Annapolis once or twice, and I can’t wait to run through this beautiful city!
4. Let’s face it, I had an absolute blast at Ragnar DC, and couldn’t wait to run another Ragnar. When a spot opened up on our MRTT Ragnar Trail Appalachians team, I jumped at the chance. I don’t camp, and I need electricity to flat iron my hair, but I can’t wait to “rough it” for two days in the mountains of West Virginia!
5. Choosing the fifth and final race is the hardest for me. All four remaining candidates are races that I ran last year, and races that I enjoyed immensely; however, since forced to pick only one, I’m going with the Leesburg 20K. Much of it is run on the western portion of the W&OD Trail, the most beautiful and my favorite section. The medal has a barn and cow on it! So seriously, how could I not love this race?
Now that I’ve talked about my favorite upcoming 2015 races, here’s my entire 2015 race schedule. Let me know if I should look for you at any of these races!
- February 14 – For The Love Of It 10K
- April 4 – Algonkian Regional Park PR Trail Run

- Will you be running in any of the races I mentioned?

See you then!
Great list!! I hope to see you at the GW Parkway 10 miler! I’ll be way in the back and recovering from the Paris Marathon 2 weeks earlier! Enjoy Zooma Annapolis, the course was great for the 10K last year, super scenic. I loved running down the main drag!

Sounds good! I don’t plan racing the GW Parkway 10 Miler either, so perhaps we can run part of it together.
I will see you April 4th and likely June 6th! I am pretty sure I will be in town for July 4th, in that case I will see you at the Firecracker 5K as well 🙂

Awesome, Jenny! I look forward to it!
The Leesburg 20k looks exactly like my favorite kind of race. The medal is adorable! Wow – you had a great pace in that heat! A Ragnar experience would be awesome too.

Thanks! The race also has a very small town feel to it. I really enjoyed myself during that run even if I was working extremely hard.
I loved the Zooma race that I did in Atlanta; I hope you all have a great time in Annapolis! Sounds like lots of folks are interested in that one. You have quite the list; can’t wait to follow along and hear about your racing successes! Hope you have a great weekend.

I’m really looking forward to running ZOOMA. I think a lot of my running friends will be there!
What a great schedule you have going for yourself this year!!! Running along the trees in spring sounds lovely!!

The GW Parkway is so beautiful, and it’s nice to have an opportunity to run along it without hearing the traffic.
I like your mix of distances! I will be running my first 10-mike races this year.

I used to only run marathons. I didn’t realize how much fun I was missing by not running the shorter distances, too. Good luck on your first 10-miler!
Great list. I love PRR. They do some great races and runs. I’ll have to read your GW posts. Your the second person I’ve seen mention it today. Always love finding new races.

The GW Parkway 10 Miler is a great race. You should definitely run it sometime!
Ragnars are super fun! I’ve only done one but it was a blast and it brought me to Key West which was a great place for after-party! Your PR series looks like a great way to train for trail races something I’m hoping to do lots of this year! Happy running!

Yes, those PR Trail races will be a great way for people who want to try out trail running to do so with support, and without the stress of signing up for a trail race. I think it’s brilliant!
Ragnar Key West sounds like a great relay location. For the most part, we had excellent weather for Ragnar DC.
oooh, will have to look into those trail runs!
Mar @ Mar on the Run recently posted…Friday Five: Races to Run in 2015
Yes, do! Courtney is planning on running two of them, too!
That’s a lot of races!!! Too bad none of them are on my list… 🙁

I don’t know how it added up to twelve races so quickly!
Awesome! This is a great list!
I’m not racing this weekend (I have a 10K next weekend), but Mr PugRunner is.
I am most looking forward to RNR Virginia Beach Half in September. It will be my first out of state race, and we will be meeting up with family (some of whom will also be running).
MrJenn recently posted…friday five: races to run in 2015
We ran the RNR Virginia Beach Half many years ago. It’s a great race, but will likely be very hot and humid. Of course, you may think it’s cool and comfortable since you’ll be coming up from Florida!
One day I have got to do a Ragnar! From all the stories I’ve heard it sounds like the most fun experience!
Your race calendar is looking fabulous this year!

Yes, definitely add Ragnar to your list of races to run! You will have a blast!
Having a puppy to cheer you on is always a good thing! Have a great time with all of your races! Some of them will be here so soon! 🙂

It’s nice to have an excuse to stop and play with the puppy! I never “race” the GW Parkway 10 Miler, so I don’t mind stopping at all.
My hat is off to you for that trail-n-camping Ragnar! The Ragnar last fall was the closest I could come to anything like camping. I see a trail theme in your schedule this year . . .

Do you plan to run any of the =PR= trial runs?
I wanna do another Ragnar so bad. I think I’ll have to wait another year to commit to one though. I got a lot on my schedule for this year. And Zooma is another that I want to get in on sometime. Girl Power!!!!
Haley recently posted…Five Races to Run in 2015
I really want to run two Ragnars this year, but I’m limiting it to just the trail race. Hope you get your Ragnar in next year!
Lot’s of fun stuff coming up! I love the sound of that organized trail run series. I’ve heard a lot about the GW Parkway 10 Miler, but I’m a bit wary of it because it’s all run on concrete, right? I think that would tear my shins to pieces. But I think it would be a really easy one for my dad to bike along, using the Mount Vernon trail, I think.
I can’t wait for your Ragnar Trail adventure!! I’m a bit bummed that I won’t be doing it. But honestly I really don’t know that I could handle trail running by myself in the woods. I get freaked even when I run with Barry at night in the woods. Stupid fear of the dark!
Meagan recently posted…Deep Freeze
Yes, the parkway is all concrete, and it beats the heck out of my legs. Anyone that says asphalt isn’t any softer than concrete should run that race! It would be a great race for Roger to bike along.
We’ll see how brave I am when the time comes to RUN. ALONE. AT NIGHT. IN THE WOODS!
I am a member of MRTT Gainesville, VA. I will see you in Annapolis since I am a ZOOMA Ambassador. Good luck in your races this year!
