It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week, in honor of Wednesday’s big day in the running community, the DC Trifecta chose National Running Day as the theme. Note: The blog post contains affiliate links. “Every day is a good day when you run.”
~ Kevin Nelson
As you can imagine, I get pretty pumped every year for National Running Day; but because it falls on a weekday (the first Wednesday in June) I don’t plan anything more than a large group run. This year, after some prompting from friends, I added a sparkle skirt, and that got me thinking, “What else can I do to add sparkle and fun to next year’s National Running Day celebrations?” and I came up with these five ideas:
1. Make wearing a sparkle skirt an annual thing, especially since I’m a self-declared-non-sparkle-skirt kind of girl the rest of the year.
2. Invite lots of running friends from different groups, and give a prize to the group that makes the biggest most sparkly National Running Day sign. I could invite:
3. Have a costume contest and give a prize to the best dressed runner.
4. Serve post-run cupcakes with sparkle frosting.
5. Have a champagne or sparkling cider toast after our run to celebrate another great year of running.
And there you have it – five great ways both you and I can add sparkle to our National Running Day celebration on June 1, 2016!
- Questions:
- What is your favorite way to sparkle?
- How did you celebrate National Running Day?
- Are you racing this weekend?
Since I have been injured, i’m already looking forward to Running day next year! I’m not racing this weekend but plan to watch a friend who is!
Yes to sparkle shirts! We have our MRTT June welcome run tomorrow I always love these!

We have our MRTT welcome run tomorrow, too. I’m going to miss it though because I’ll be running the final =PR= Trail Series run at Lake Fairfax. It’s going to be muddy! 🙂
sounds fun!!

We runners know how to have fun! 😎
I actually ran by myself on National Running Day (my local group was starting too late for me to be able to participate), but I love getting together with my women’s running group to run and race! Hope you have a great weekend, Deb!

Thanks, Tara! You, too!
No running for me on National Running Day this year, but yes, I have broken out my sparkle skirt for just an “average” run and it’s a lot of fun wondering what the commuters in my neighborhood must be thinking!

It sounds like you had a “runtastic” National Running Day!
Love my sparkle athletic skirts! So fun!
I ran a Prediction Run with my new running group on Wednesday. It was a great time, but next time I think we need to finish it up with cupcakes and champagne!
No races planned for June.

Yay for new running friends! One can never have too many running friends 😀
Sounds like five good ideas to me! My favorite way to add a little sparkle is with one of my thin, sparkly headbands. I hate all the little hairs getting stuck to my face when I run, so I figure why not add a bit of sparkle with that accessory 🙂
Beautiful event. In Italy we don’t have a National Running Day nor the ParkRun circuit. They would be a good way to spend a day of sport.
Have a good week end.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
I need to break out my sparkly skirt for a run, it’s been too long!

I love your sparkle ideas!!! 🙂 Sorry I couldn’t make it out! I ended up having a late meeting that day so I had to run in the morning! Looking forward to the pancakes one though 🙂
