It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week the DC Trifecta chose Five Things I’ll Be Doing In Five Years as the theme…..
“I am not afraid of tomorrow,
for I have seen yesterday
and I love today.”
~ William Allen White
It’s going to be fun and interesting reading my fellow bloggers’ posts talking about where they want to be in five years. I dare say that there will be several people mentioning that they’d like to start a family and establish their careers. Since I’ve been there, done that, my post will most likely be a bit different than the others in the linkup. So what do I hope to be doing in five years? Here goes…
1. Having Fun No Matter What I’m Doing – I believe in living life to the fullest, so you can bet I’ll be laughing and having fun!
2. Running Regularly – Seriously, did you expect anything less than this being near the top of my list?
3. Traveling With My Hubby – There are so many places we want to go, and next on our list is a trip back out west. We’re looking forward specifically to hiking and running in Southern Utah, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and the Colorado Rockies – all places we loved visiting when we lived out west.
4. Maintaining Good Health – This is somewhat out of my control, but I will continue to eat well, exercise regularly, and get my recommended tests, pokes, and prods from my doctors to help increase my odds of staying healthy.
5. Cuddling A Grandchild – This is definitely out of my control, but this is something I really look forward to!
Bonus: Watching one or more of the following (a girl can dream, right?):
- Washington Nationals win the World Series
- Virginia Tech Hokies win the NCAA National Football Championship
- Washington Redskins win the Super Bowl
- Washington Capitols win the Stanley Cup
Don’t forget to stop by the other participating bloggers’ little corners of the internet to find out what they want to be doing in five years!
- Questions:
- What do you hope to be doing in five years?
- What teams would you love to see win something big, but you aren’t holding your breath?
- Are you racing this weekend?
great list except for that hokies championship. roll tide! 🙂

With five years worth of championships there’s plenty of time for both of us to make it to the top! 😀
Wahoowa! (Oops, couldn’t resist.)
I’m hoping we’ll be traveling a lot too, but it’ll probably be closer to 8 years until traveling becomes the way of life instead of just vacation.

I don’t think either you or I should hold our breath for the National Championship anytime soon!
I’d like to be able to say that I traveled more. I haven’t done hardly anything these past five years sine becoming a mom. I’m hoping having the kiddos a little older will translate into more “adult time” with my husband and in turn become traveling dates. That’d be great to say.

When our kids were little we never went anywhere except to visit my parents, or spend a week at my husband’s parents’ beach house. It does get better as they get older and appreciate doing other things besides play. You’ll get there!
Ah grand babies! I’ve hopefully got 10 years for that. I am looking forward to more travel w my husband too

As soon as your son is in college you’ll be able to start that traveling, but if you’re like us, those trips will be to their universities for visits! 😀
Wow, haven’t begun to comprehend grandbabies…probably not in my 5 year outllook with early teens, but there will be some other milestones in that time.

Both of my sons are in their mid-twenties so I’m at a very different place. You will definitely have lots of milestones to look forward to in the next five years with early teens!
Nice list! I’d love to travel more too!

Thanks! I’m hopeful the traveling thing will happen, but of course for the next two years most of our trips will be to Chicago to see our son and DIL while he’s working on his MBA.
I can definitely relate (except the part about grandchildren…. my kids are not yet out of the house !) I too want to go out West. My brother lives in Idaho and I have not yet been out to see him. Possibly next summer.
I am not racing this weekend, next race is mid September. Until the “back to school” season starts in France, there are very few races… but then a TON in Sept / Oct / Nov. Already 4 on my list !

Awesome – it sounds like you’ve got a busy racing season lined up!
Great list! I’m with you on everything except the last one since my daughter is just about to turn 2. Having fun is so important!
Awww, then you can cuddle you daughter! 🙂
I miss traveling. Once I moved out on my own, my traveling tanked, big time. 🙁

Yeah, that budgeting thing gets in the way of a lot of things we want to do, huh?
I hope I get to continue running in years to come as well. Thankfully I am not injury proned so I feel like this is very doable.

I think that is a dream of all of us runners. Here’s to your dream coming true!
Another great list!

The first thing that came to mind was grandkids. I was wondering if you would say it.
TeeHee – I couldn’t resist!
I don’t think there are more grandkids in my next 5 years. But I’ll enjoy the two I have, We will be empty nesters and I look forward to more travel!

When we first became empty nesters, all of our travels seemed to be going to our sons’ universities to visit them for parents’ weekends and football games!
Oh my, you snuck #5 in there, didn’t you? 😉 It’s something you can’t help to think about, though!
Boy would I love to see a Hokie National Championship in the next five years. That would be sweeeeet!
HaHa – I sure did! 🙂
