Last week I talked about coming home from vacation to rest, but even so, this was a very busy week. Yes, I had some down time on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons without clients, but every time I sat down to work on my laptop, I started nodding off. I have got to get a better handle on sleep by getting to bed earlier, especially since I just added a new 6 AM client two mornings a week…
Enough about that, let’s talk about running! My first run of the week and real sustained run since the Grand Teton Half was late Monday night and solo. Tuesday was one of those crazy days where if I’d gone for my usual run with friends, I wouldn’t have had time to shower until after 4 PM at the end of my workday. My clients appreciated my thoughtfulness and a fresh-smelling Deb!
Monday evening’s run was tough to say the least. After running a 9:54 average pace at over 6,100 feet for 13.1 miles at my race, I struggled to average 11:22 at 295 feet for 5 miles. Granted I was running not too long after dinner and I hate running in the evening, but seriously?
Thursday morning I met my friends for our normal run. It was pretty weird to look out my kitchen window and see a gorgeous sunrise before I left our house at 5:20 AM – quite the contrast to driving home in the dark after our run for most of the winter months. The sun shining on these buildings where, rumor has it, a coffee shop is planned to open soon was quite lovely so I snapped a memory.
Friday afternoon I finally applied the runner girl decal (affiliate link) to the back of my car that Bill got for me for my birthday back in November…
Saturday morning I woke up to 59° for our 6 AM run – talk about perfect running weather for June! I was meeting Tracy and Tiffany for what will be one of our last runs together before Tiffany moves to San Diego at the end of the month. I will miss her sweet and quiet nature, and our commonality of both being moms to two boys and melanoma warriors.
We thought it totally appropriate to make sad faces at the “Leaving Loudoun County” sign on the W&OD Trail.
As I often do, after our run I played around with my GoPro (affiliate link) for a little while…
And finally, happy Father’s Day to the best guy I could have picked to be my lifelong partner. Not only is he a wonderful father to our two sons and loves my mom dearly, but he enjoys playing paparazzi and following me around at my races! You can check out some of his photography here. Love ya, Babe! xoxo And of course it goes without saying that I miss my dad every day, not just on Father’s Day…
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, you only missed last Sunday’s weekly rundown…
For this coming week, I do hope to finish my Grand Teton Half Race Recap and get it posted by Thursday. I’ve got a good start on it with all 34+ pictures edited and ready to insert. Also as I mentioned last week, I am not going to stress myself out getting the following blog posts completed:
- Grand Teton Half recap
- Phelps Lake hike and meeting CL
- Deer Valley hike and visiting Olympic Park with dear friends
- Delicate Arch hike
- Canyonlands hike
- Dead Horse Point at sunset and meeting Karman
- Mountain biking private lessons and ride with Sylvie
In addition to the exercise I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Which are busier, your summers or winters? ~ My summers tend to be because of the outside gardening I like to do, and increased entertaining.
- Have you had to say goodbye to a runner friend recently? ~ I’ve have two leaving this month Vamshi and Tiffany. 🙁
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
It is tough getting back into a running routine after vacation, especially if a time change is involved. My oldest son lives in CO (at 7,000 feet elevation), and I always have trouble after I come back home. I DID race this weekend – a trail half in Elkton, MD, and I turned my ankle! I am sitting with my feet up icing it now ! 🙁
Oh no, I hope your ankle heals quickly!
I am going to be feeling it this week too after our vacation of lots of eating and drinking. I love that runner decal-where did you get it??
Yes, you are going to be feeling some re-entry back into real life after that amazing vacation!
After some searching, I found the runner girl decal on Amazon and updated my post to include a link. 😉
Your Go Pro pictures are always great. I will be saying goodbye to a runner friend soon, unfortunately. It’s hard!
Thank you!
I’m sorry you’re having to say goodbye to a runner friend as well… 🙁
It’s so hard to get back into a routine after vacation. Sometimes you need a vacation from the vacation, especially if you were super active.
Saying goodbye to runner friends is SO darn hard!
Needing a vacation to recover from vacation – so true!
Love the Go Pro pics! We have one, but I always forget to bring it…and it’s not that big, I really should, though I’m not running right now…but it is waterproof, guess I could use it at the pool!
Great week of some awesome runs!
Summers are always busier for me…so many festivals, weddings, summer parties- just more reasons to leave the house than in the cold Minnesota winter 🙂
Thanks so much! It took me about six months to get used to brining my GoPro along, but now it’s a staple for my runs. And yes, you could get some fantastic pictures under water at the pool!
That runner decal is awesome! I need one of those. 🙂
And wow, 34+ race pictures?! NICE! Looking forward to seeing those!
I don’t know if I could pick which season is busier because it’s just me in the house right now. Probably summer because we’d be doing lots of camping, etc if my husband was home. It’s a lot quieter since we’re empty nesters anyway.
I edited my post to include an Amazon link to the runner girl decal. It’s only $4.49 with free shipping! 😀
Glad to hear you’re back to running again. I bet it feels good to just run without anything to train for right now.
Have a great week!
It does, Wendy; as much as I love training for a big race, I do enjoy running just for the fun of it!
My runner girl decal is old and faded, I need to replace her and I simply love your new one! Do you know where it came from? I know how you feel about your Dad! Mine has been gone nearly 28 years and I still miss him. Thanks for linking!
I just edited my post to include an Amazon link to the runner girl decal. It’s only $4.49 with free shipping!
Love that sticker. I’m also a November baby!
Summer v. winter is a toss up. Summer feels busier, but truthfully a lot of work events take summer off/scale back frequency so it’s less busy.
10K yesterday.
My husband ordered my decal from Amazon and I just edited my post to include a link. It’s only $4.49 and with Amazon Prime it’s got free shipping!
YOU mentioned gardening…which is what I did for a few hours this afternoon in the mucho warm temps and humidity.I honestly had not had any time to do much weeding in the past several weeks, so it looked like major jungle of junk that I hauled to my compost bin
Way to get it done, even in the heat!
I just struggled with getting back to normal workouts after a long trip back to the states, even though I worked out a lot while traveling. Your GoPro pics always look sooo good!! Still figuring out how to get good shots on ours.
Thanks so much! Just practice lots with your GoPro until you figure out what type of pictures you like.
Love that decal, where did he find that? No running for me at the moment, I have a fractured pelvis (yes, from running). Please send patience.
He found it on Amazon! I edited my post to include a link (and it’s very affordable).
I’m so sorry to hear about your fracture. I’m sending patience and healing hugs!
Its always tough to get back into the swing of things after vacation! Isn’t is crazy how early the sun is rising these days? Looks like you had a great week!
Yes, I just wish the early sunrises lasted longer. 😎
I think I read something recently about coming down from elevation will slow you down temporarily, which seems totally counterintuitive! I have a big race just a month after my half at elevation . . . well, one step at a time, as they say. 🙂
Mr. Judy also like to take photographs & is quite talented, although most of the time he just gets me at the beginning and the end (if he’s lucky) of a race. It’s very rare for him to try to get me mid-race. And it’s not easy, either!
Interesting point about changing elevation in either direction slowing you down – I’m going with that as my excuse (even though coming back down sounds counterintuitive to me, too)!
Sounds like a good week! I had my best running friend leave last summer and it was hard but we plan races during the year to meet at. We’ve already met twice this year and will be meeting a third time in Seattle! Oh I’m looking forward to reading your Grand Teton Half recap. I did Zion this year and it was a lot of fun!
My Grand Teton Half recap is scheduled to post at midnight! I’m going to pop over to your site and see if you recapped Zion. I love southern Utah – we had so much fun at Arches and Canyonlands while we were still out west after my race.
No races in a while – i wonder if my youngest will run cross country like her big sister did. All seasons now seem so busy. The summer felt like a break before, but now, with summer soccer, it’s all one season – the only thing that changes is what I wear on the sideline!
We get to say hello to a new old friend this fall. One of Hayden’s great friends – and awesome soccer player – is moving back to our school for her senior season!
How fantastic that your daughter’s friend is returning to play for her old school her senior year!
