An Early Father’s Day Celebration
Yesterday, the kids treated Bill to an early Father’s Day celebration at Bear Chase Brewery where we had a delightful time just sitting around and chatting while enjoying good food and drinks. Even though I’m not a beer drinker, I had plenty of alternative choices and settled on a red wine slushee. Situated right next to the Appalachian Trail, Bear Chase offers stunning views while temporarily making you forget you’re so close to the hustle and bustle of suburbia. Most of the area breweries and wineries allow pups to visit their outdoor spaces so we were able to bring Pablo with us. He had a great time meeting new dog friends and entertaining toddlers, both of which were plentiful.
TGIF
Friday evening we headed to one of our favorite places, Parrando’s Tex-Mex Grill for dinner. We really don’t go out that much, but one of our sons was already in town, so we decided to enjoy an evening out. The weather was pretty much perfect so we sat outside on their shaded patio. A margarita and table-side guac was the perfect cap to a busy week!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Walking
Tiffany, one of my good MRTT friends moved to California last summer and is back in town for the week. Our little group of friends have lots of early morning runs planned, but my schedule isn’t going to allow me to join them. When Tiffany texted the group to say she’d just landed and would be in the ‘hood taking a walk while her son caught up with some friends, I jumped at the chance to join her.
It was so good to catch up and hear that she’s settled nicely into her new home and has made new running friends. She says she’s the Debbie of the group – a bit older than the other runners. I told her that hanging out with younger runners will help keep her young!
Running
Once Monday was behind us, the weather this past week was amazing. Unfortunately, my schedule required me to run early Monday morning, but at least I finished with nothing more than a humid drizzle and the downpours held off until later when I already at the gym.
On Wednesday, I had a nice little opening in the middle of the day so I ran a little later than usual. During my run, the temperature rose to only 71° and the humidity dropped to from 47 to 39%.
Saturday morning was just plain gorgeous! I snapped this picture before heading out for my solo run around 5:30 AM. I love this time of year when it’s light out so early! Even though the humidity was 100%, the 51° more than made up for it which made me feel strong and able to run much faster than I have in ages.
The second I finished my run, I hopped in the car and drove over to meet my Cruiser friends. I’d planned a farewell run and breakfast for Terri who is moving to Texas in a few weeks. She and I have logged thousands of miles together, including running the Georgia Marathon, several Marine Corps Marathons, and a couple of Steamtown Marathons; and I’d hoped to get in one last run with her.
With a family trip to the brewery thrown into the mix, I wasn’t going to have time to fit in a run, enjoy breakfast, and get ready in time to leave with my family. Rather than moving our group run to earlier in the morning (some of the Cruisers aren’t early risers), I opted to run alone. It was great to see everyone, chat for a few minutes, and snap a quick photo before heading home to shower.
After their run and my shower, we met for breakfast and enjoyed telling stories about our favorite memories of running with Terri! Terri remembered that I taught her how to pee while standing up; however, I thought we’d perfected the art together! LOL
Biking
I didn’t get to ride my bike this week and it’s doubtful I will this coming week…
Strength Training
Three out of three lifting sessions completed…
Yoga
I squeezed my yoga sessions in between clients, but should have fit them in when I had more time to go outside and enjoy the gorgeous weather.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Running With Wild Horses Cheering Me On and Trying New Foods
- Tuesday – Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour Recap
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Are you a beer drinker? ~ I’ve never liked beer. When I was at keg parties in college, I’d fill my glass about a third of the way full so people wouldn’t give me a hard time for not drinking.
- What was the most fun thing you did this past week?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
That brewery sounds so fun! We have a couple of places like that around here. One of our favs makes cider. So good! It’s no fun saying good bye to running buddies. It sounds like a nice send off for her!

Yes, Bear Chase makes cider as well. I’m not a big fan of cider either, but I did take a sip of my daughter-in-law’s and it was pretty good.
The Cruisers know how to celebrate milestones of all kinds!
I have not heard of bear chase but it looks like a nice place to visit. Now that my kids are older we can do stuff like that too. I really need to get on my bike! The weather this week looks stormy ever afternoon. You never know around here!

Bear Chase didn’t open until late last summer so it’s rather new and not surprising that you haven’t heard of it. I suspect that it will become quite popular!
Hello!! Fellow non-beer drinker here 😉 I’m glad hard ciders are all the rage now, those I can drink without gagging ( I don’t drink much anyways, so it’s really not much of an issue anyways). That said, the hubby and I also enjoyed some margaritas and nachos on Friday 😉 Thanks, for linking with us, Deb 😉
They had cider as well and it was pretty good. One sip was plenty for me, though.
It’s so great how the change in weather can change everything – your mood, your runs, your mood 🙂 LOL. It’s getting better here too – finally! Love the outdoor Mexican food – not much better than that. And being able to catch up with and old friend and then say good-bye to another one had to be an emotional roller coaster of sorts! Hope you are feeling good and are ready for another week.

The weather last week was so nice! This week we’re back to humidity and afternoon storms…
Hope you’re having a great week!
Not much of a beer person either. Becoming a wine one — a wine slushie sounds great
Looks like it was Pablo’s Day instead of Father’s Day. Win win all around
My week highlight was probably Dinos After Dark, an after-hours, child free event at AMNH

Any time Pablo is with us, it’s Pablo’s Day! 😀
Dinos After Dark sounds like a fun event! I don’t know if they still do it, but they used to have events at the National Zoo after hours. I never went, but they sounded fun.
I do love beer, but the beer here is different than in the US . I only like microbrewery beer back home. I go through phases though. Right now I’m more about the Gin & Tonics. Usually one is enough for me though ( I get the peer pressure thing though, I have a friend in Wales that says “Remember, Renée, one drink is no drink…”). The brewery looks so nice – I love it when you can just sit outdoors and enjoy the scenery and everyone is welcome 🙂
glad you got to do a proper catch up with some of your running friends!
hmmm the most fun thing last week? I’d have to say my 50KM bike ride out to Bronkhorst and back!
Oh my goodness, we just started making Tom Collins again after years of not having gin in our bar. It’s a fun throwback drink! “One drink is no drink…” I’ll have to remember that next time I’m playing bartender. 😉
I am intrigued by that red wine slushee that you mentioned – that sounds so good! I’m not a huge beer drinker either so I would have definitely ordered that as well, lol
It was quite good! I’d had a similar one at a local winery a few years ago.
I AM a beer drinker, and that brewery sounds wonderful! We will have to check it out the next time we are in the area. Bill and I did 2 races last weekend (actually one was Thursday night) – one 5 mile trail race and one 10K (mostly) road race. Glad to read that your runs are going so well. It sounds like your weekend was busy and fun!

If you’re in the area, let me know and we’ll join you (as long as we’re in town this time)! You should also try Vanish. It’s another local favorite!
Two races last weekend – how fun! I love that you two can run together. I miss running with my Bill, but at least we can bike together!
About my running… 🙁 This time it’s the angry SI joint rearing its ugly head. Hopefully, it will be short-lived and I’ll be on the trail again soon.
