Two years ago I PR’d at the Loudoun Half Marathon, a fabulously organized local race benefiting local high schools, and last year I cheered on my friends as they headed out on a beautiful spring morning; many of them running their very first half!
Sunday, April 17
Broad Run High School
Half Marathon – 7 AM Start
8K – 7:30 AM Start
This year when my friend Lesley asked if I would like to run the race for free, I jumped at the chance! Lesley is working in conjunction with the Ashburn Area Running Club (AARC) who is producing this event.
As I’ve discovered over the years, when runners produce a race, it’s done right; and the Loudoun Half and 8K exemplify this. The Loudoun Half was named the Best Half Marathon in the Mid-Atlantic Region by readers of Competitor Magazine in both 2014 and 2015.
With the slogan of “spring for student athletes,” this year’s race will benefit Broad Run, Freedom, Loudoun County, Park View, Riverside, Stone Bridge, and Tuscarora high schools. Over the past two years, the Loudoun Half and 8K has raised nearly $50,000 for Loudoun County high school track and field, and cross country programs.
Prices increase on Wednesday, so pop over now to the Loudoun Half/8K website to register using code SaveThreeHalf or SaveThree8k to receive $3 off your registration fee.
In addition to a race shirt, all half and 8K finishers will receive a medal and fabulous post-race refreshments. If that’s not enough, teams of twelve or more will receive additional swag!
If you can’t run, but would like to volunteer for registration, packet pickup, set-up, course marshal, start/finish line, clean-up, etc., visit the website to register.
Feeling lucky? Check back later this week for a chance to win a free entry into either the half or 8K and have a friend join you!
- Questions:
- Have you run in the Loudoun Half or 8K?
- Have you ever volunteered at a race?
- Did you race this past weekend?
Disclaimer: Even though I am receiving a free entry into the 2016 Loudoun 8K, all opinions in this post about the AARC and their production of the 2014 and 2015 Loudoun Half Marathon and 8K are my own.
I’ve never done that race! So many races so little time

Isn’t that the truth! 😀
Sounds like a great race and a great cause! WE had a local 5K this weekend to benefit the special olympics and I was happy to see so many runners!

That’s another excellent cause! I was honored to be able to help with the Virginia State Special Olympics Track and Field meet when I was a student at Virginia Tech. We hosted that year, and it was really fun to be a part of such a special event.
Debbie – not sure if I will be ready to run a half by then so not registered yet but I may run this one since it’s very close to home 🙂
You can always run the 8K with me!
Sure, I can join you for 8K. Vamshi already signed up for half
ooooh never heard of this race…..it will have to wait for next year but good to know 😉
It’s definitely a well-run race!
