Visitors of the Best Kind
I’ll start with one of the highlights of my week when three of my four favorite guys stopped by to visit – my other favorite guy lives with me. 😉 Joseph happened to be in town on Thursday afternoon, so Daniel and Pablo joined him for a visit. We missed seeing the girls, but still had a great time!
After dinner, we let Pablo burn off some energy. He cracks us up with his zoomies!
Monday afternoon, I noticed momma bird building her nest in the bird house hanging on our deck. My clients can watch her comings and goings from inside the gym while they’re warming up!
Fitting in My Own Workouts
Anticipating being busier than normal because I was taking Friday off and moving those clients and the balance and stretching class I teach to earlier in the week, I scheduled my own workouts for the week accordingly. I even jotted down each day of the week and what workouts I needed to complete that day. There were a couple of 4:15 AM wake ups in order to fit it all in, but I got it done.
My Annual Week at the Farm
Bill and I drove to my mom’s house on Friday afternoon for our annual two-day family reunion for my mom’s siblings, my cousins, etc. Bill drove home today, but I’m staying with mom for the week and plan to go to my dad’s family reunion next weekend. I haven’t seen some of those aunts, uncles, and cousins for a few years so I’m really looking forward to seeing them!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Because of my adjusted schedule, the only time I could fit in my run on Monday was during the afternoon. It was 88° when I headed out at around 2 PM, but with the humidity at only 42% it didn’t feel too terrible. Finding shade helped immensely and I survived a rare afternoon run.
Wednesday’s run was at 4:45 AM and even though there was no sun to contend with, the 77° with 91% humidity left me soaked and feeling much hotter than on Monday’s run.
Friday morning it was 71° with 100% humidity when I headed out the door, but the cooler temperature actually felt pretty good even though I was soaked when I finished.
Biking
No gravel ride was scheduled for Sunday so I took that day as a total rest day. I really wanted to fit in a ride so I headed out solo on Tuesday afternoon. What started out as a 10-miler ended up being a 25-miler because I was having so much fun. Even though it was 91°, with only 47% humidity, the breeze felt great and I stayed relatively cool.
Strength Training
Since I’ll be limited to only body-weight strength training this coming week, I made sure to fit all three workouts in last week, even if it meant getting up super early on Friday to lift before my run.
Yoga
I also made a point to fit in my two Rodney Yee DVD workouts (affiliate link) since I’ll be winging it at my mom’s house this week.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Rainy Days and Mondays Leads to a Flooded Gym
- Tuesday – 2019 Firecracker 5K Race Recap
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you record (or note if you don’t log your workouts) the temperature and humidity for your outdoor workouts?
- When’s your favorite time to workout? ~ the earlier the better for me
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

UGH! 88. Nope, I would’ve definitely passed on that one (really, I’d take it to the mill). Good job not dying, LOL!
Zoomies are the best. 🙂 Bandit doesn’t really get them that much, except when I come home from being out, but Lola still does a spectacular job with them at 13. They’re both spending lots of time just laying on floors in our current heatwave.
Enjoy all the family! That’s the most important thing. I have no uncles or aunts left at all, haven’t for a long time, so you’re lucky.
I know it doesn’t make sense, but I seem to tolerate the heat better as I get older. I thought the opposite was supposed to happen.
Aren’t the zoomies the best and the funniest? Mom’s cats have been laying on the breezeway floor on the cool tile pretty much all day every day. She’s even been turning the ceiling fan on for them during this recent heat wave. 😀
Have a great week!
I don’t typically record the temps/humidity, but often times take a screenshot off my app (if it’s worth noting)…then I can refer to that when I write up my Weekly Run Down post. You probably know early mornings are my jam for workouts and runs. I can fit things in later in the day or evening if need be, but I prefer to rise & shine and get it done before heading to work. Max does that same thing as Pablo…only he does it along the hallway at the top of our stairs. Back and forth like a maniac…usually a good 10-15 times at top speed LOL

Yes, you and I both are the queens of early morning workouts! 😉
4:15 wakeups??? Whew! That is dedication. Actually, with all the heat, you were probably better off getting your runs in early. Have a great week with your family!

I’m up most mornings by 5 AM so 4:15 didn’t seem too bad. In fact, one morning I woke up on my own at 4:03 and couldn’t go back to sleep so I just got up.
Thanks, we’ve had a great time so far! It’s just my mom and me now because everyone else has gone home.
Have a great week!
Never thought about logging in the temp or humidity for workouts but great idea! Hope you have a nice visit with your mom this week.

I like recording the temperature, humidity, and feels-like temperature on my training log so if I go back to look at a run I can see what other factors might have affected it.
Thanks, we’re having a great time so far!
you got some good sweaty runs in! I had a week like that last week – I had more on my plate but still needed to fit in my workouts. I only managed running though… As for your ride, isn’t it great when the ride just feels so good you want to go further? Especially on hot days, I love biking more than ever! I don’t tend to make note of the weather but my runs are recorded with my Garmin (which links with Strava) which I believe at least makes a note of the temperature. I never paid much attention to the weather until I married someone who acted like a meteorologist 😉 In a way I don’t want to know what’s coming but I suppose it does actually help with planning!! Favorite time to work out? When I have the energy? haha! To be honest I like AM workouts if not too early and I like evening workouts if not too late. Ideally I would love to become an early morning runner but so far it’s not become a habit (at all). No racing for me – in 4 weeks I have a Half Marathon in Helsinki.
I grew up on a farm, so being on top of the weather forecast was everything; and now it’s carried over into my running life. 😀
With a half marathon coming up, running should be your top priority, especially if your time to workout is limited. Go get’em!
I like to get my runs done in the morning. During the school year it is the only time I can make it happen. I don’t record the temperature but simply take a screenshot to add to a photo collage. Sometimes I forget.

I’m with you, if I can’t get my runs in first thing in the morning, it’s hard to get them in later. For me, though, it’s more of a mental thing because I do usually have breaks in my schedule in the middle of my day…
Cocoa does that zooming thing–when I come home from work she ‘goes crazy’ as we call it! It’s hilarious and never fails to make us laugh!
We’re enjoying some cooler weather and it feels so good! The humidity is lurking around the corner, tho.

I think tomorrow is our last comfortable day here in SWVA. I’m sure it will be plenty hot by the time I return home…

I’m all too familiar with the zoomies right now with Ruth! She is crazy…and then the puppy crash where she just wants to cuddle 🙂
I have to run in the morning or it’s REALLY likely that I’ll skip.
Oh my goodness, I bet Ruth’s puppy zoomies are adorable!
