That’s it, I’m done! I will never trust the weather forecast again – until the next time we have snow in the forecast… Let’s back it up a little. I canceled my Cruisers run set for Saturday morning after the ominous forecast of snow falling overnight turning into sleet or freezing rain. I can handle snow, in fact I LOVE running in the snow. I can handle sleet as long as I’m wearing a visor and don’t get pelted in the face. I can’t, and don’t, handle freezing rain. Freezing rain keeps me holed up in my house like a cranky hibernating bear. Ain’ nobody got time to slip and slide and risk breaking a bone trying to run on a sheet of ice.
After canceling our Cruisers’ group run, I slept in until 7:30 on Saturday morning and woke up to a light drizzle. As the light drizzle turned to heavier rain, I watched as doppler radar showed our area just barely south and east of the ice/rain line. After doing a few chores around the house, I decided it was safe to run and headed out – alone. Yes, I could have run with friends, but the weatherman dictated otherwise. For now I’m miffed at the weatherman, but the next time I hear snow in the forecast, all will be forgiven and I’ll be as excited as a little bright-eyed little girl on Christmas morning.
Back to last week… The weather was as crazy as if it were March and on Tuesday I wore long pants, a long sleeved shirt, a light jacket, and mittens covering my gloves (most normal winter runs dictate capris, a short sleeved shirt and unlined shell jacket for me). Even dressed that warmly, I was cold for most of my run. After my run, I immediately went into training sessions, only having time to change into dry clothes. It wasn’t until later in the afternoon that I had time to shower and it wasn’t until then that I finally warmed up. Yes, I worked (inside) all morning in my down jacket and fingerless gloves.
Here’s how the rest of my cold, then warm, then non-wintery week went down…

- Questions:
- Have you gotten any snow yet this year where you live?
- What wild animals have you seen while on a run?
- Have you or your pets ever been sprayed by a skunk?
Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Tricia from MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
I think we had all 4 seasons this week! I see lots of deer and fox out lately.

I think you’re right! LOL
We had a bad snow storm last weekend and a few days later it was in the 70s. How is that possible? I have never passed a skunk while running. I almost stepped on a snake though.

I stepped on a snake once when I was little – and barefoot! 🙁
I’m mad at the Weather Channel App too – it’s been so wrong lately. We agreed to make game-time decisions for our long run Saturday, and while it was sleeting before I left and rained on the drive to our meeting spot, it barely drizzled during our run! We’ve got a few more months of this guessing game left.

Good for you for not calling it the night before. Next time I’m doing what you did, and making it a game-time decision.
Ironically, we have had very minimal snow. We had a few inches of the really wet & heavy stuff right before Christmas (and it was gone within a couple days), and we had a light dusting last week (and that was gone a day or so later). We have had the frigid cold temps (and plenty of freezing cold wind)….but nothing to show for it but ice (from the melted snow, that has frozen). UGH.

Did you get any of the ice from the most recent storm to barrel across the Midwest?
yep! And I did an awkward hurdler stretch (in slow motion) because I couldn’t grab onto anything to hold myself up. My left elbow took a hit and so did my wrist…and my hamstring screamed at me (loudly), but it has quieted down now.

Look at your impressive biceps! We certainly haven’t had much winter weather yet. I’m not sure what season it is. I’ve seen a few snakes and when I work in my front flower beds, I can smell a skunk. I think it lives in a hole under my azaleas. I have yet to see it. Thanks for linking, Deb. Maybe the weather people will get it right this week! Bahahaha.
Thanks, Holly; and you know what? I never do any exercises that isolate my biceps. I prefer rows, pull downs, and compound moves where my biceps are worked as part of the exercise.
It is crazy how different our weather is at times, we didn’t have any freezing rain or sleet mentioned. It was gray though. That is a bummer it messed up your group! I use the channel 12 app and I find it is the closest to what actually happens more than any other weather app I have. Weather underground, weather bug the basic Iphone app, are usually far off.
Love the muscles 🙂 That is the way to rock a tank top Deb!
I use the Weather Bug app so perhaps I should find a local TV channel app for more accuracy. Thanks for the tip!
No snow down South, but we have had ice! We have trails around here that we run regularly and other than the usual deer and snake spottings, I have seen red fox on several different occasions. They are beautiful! Skunk?? Oh my! That really would have been terrible to have been sprayed…glad you guys got out of there quickly!

I have a beautiful fox that trots across our back yard and even our deck every once in a while, and yes, he’s quite handsome! I’m very thankful that I didn’t get into a tangle with the skunk! 😀
These weather reports are so frustrating sometimes…I thought Saturday was going to be snowy and we didn’t get a single flake! Thank goodness I didn’t postpone my run, it ended up being a perfect day to run!
Great job with all your workouts…I need to do more steps like you do!
Awesome that you got your run in! I love running in the snow, but the ice – not so much.
