It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that hot chocolate season is upon us and I love adding some almond flavoring to my hot cocoa! I first tried adding a couple of almond flavored shots to my hot chocolate at Starbucks, but several years ago they discontinued that flavor. I then discovered that the Nordstrom Café has almond flavoring and they’re very generous with their squirts, but our Nordstrom closed last year so I’m left almondless and in the cold once again…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that these days I usually make my own hot chocolate (usually only on snowy days) and add a drop of almond extract. Occasionally, it’s even the fun kind of almond flavoring!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you remember me telling you last month about my friend Miles‘ 70-year-old friend Jeannie Rice setting a world record for her age group at the Labor Day John Clay 5K with a time of 21:38 (6:56 pace). Well she’s done it again and set another world record at the Chicago Marathon with a time of 3:27:50 (7:56 pace)! You can read more about her in this Runner’s World article. BTW, Miles is second from left and Jeannie is on the far right.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Pablo is visiting! He’s with us for the week while Daniel and Jess are in Key West for their friends’ wedding. I made him this little “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” design scarf to wear when greeting our Trick-or-Treaters.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m really liking my new induction cooktop. With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, I will be giving it a true test and will keep you posted on my thoughts.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I just put out my Thanksgiving decorations. When our sons were little I had such a hard time finding Thanksgiving decorations – Pilgrims, Indians, horn of plenty, etc., but in later years they became readily available and I swooped up some cuties!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d remind you that I don’t care for pumpkin spice drinks or foods, but I do love this pumpkin roll that I purchase each year at Giant and serve to the Cruisers on Thanksgiving morning at our annual post-race brunch.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I gave my old bike to my daughter-in-law Julie. I’m so happy that she wanted it and that it got to stay in the family! 🙂
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

- Questions:
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
- Do you see yourself setting any world records anytime in your future? ~ Me neither…
- How do you feel about pumpkin flavored everything? Almond flavored?

I’m kind of over pumpkin flavored everything (I’ve even seen pumpkin deodorant) but almond sounds like a nice change!
Pumpkin deodorant? Now that’s funny and taking it a little too far! LOL
Gosh, Pablo is so cute!!! I read about Jeannie Rice on RW.com. Truly amazing!
I used to train with Miles so I asked him why I never got as fast as Jeanie. He told me to wait – that maybe I’m a late bloomer. LOL
World Record. Bwahaha. Well, that would definitely be a no.
How I wish I had someone to look after the animals when we travel for free! The petsitting costs really add up. Your kids are lucky! And Pablo is very cute!
I do like pumpkin. But not pumpkin everything. Thanksgiving was my mom’s big holiday, and I have inherited the duties (along with her silver — remember, she’s still alive!). I am not a decorator though. I have enough trouble fitting stuff in my house (no basement) without collecting that stuff! I did take some practical stuff from her (bowls, soup tureen, platters). Maybe this year I’ll remember to use those spreaders, too . . .
The hard part for us is going to be saying goodbye to Pablo tomorrow when we drop him back off at their house. Luckily for us, Pablo will be back to stay with us for the week of Thanksgiving!
When I first got my crockpot I fell in love with homemade hot chocolate. I don’t do extract though, just a combo of flavored chips with soy milk. So unhealthy, so good
Torani sells their syrups through Bed & Bath and, I think, Amazon Prime if you need a fix.
Love Pablo’s scarf
Thanks for the tip on the Torani syrup!
Jeannie Rice is amazing! Congratulations to her!
My youngest son and I found a little coffee shop in Lancaster that has a coffee bar. You pay for coffee, then can add creamer, sugar, or any flavor of syrup you want, and get as many refills as you want too! We sat for almost 2 hours this week talking and drinking coffee. Of course, the almond flavoring was not Amaretto, but still…:)
I need to visit my friend Miles at his winter home in Florida so I can meet Jeannie and run with them. I could probably hang for about three minutes! 😉
My family doesn’t even really want pumpkin pie any more! i do like the PSL though, with just one pump of the syrup. 😉 Thanks for joining in for coffee.
My husband still loves his pumpkin pies on Thanksgiving. Luckily, our friend makes one (plus an apple and a pecan) to bring to dinner each year. 🙂
I never would have thought to add almond to hot chocolate! I almost always substitute almond extract for vanilla in recipes…I bet it’s totally delish in hot chocolate!
I got the idea at Starbucks… Almond is almost as good with chocolate as mint. 😉
I’m gonna have to try making hot chocolate with almond extract–that sounds amazing!
Jeannie sounds like such an amazing lady–that’s so awesome!!
Pablo is adorable! <3
Yes, try it! It’s yummy! And thank you, I think Pablo is adorable, too. He has the sweetest and easiest going personality. 🙂
[…] Friday – Pablo’s Visit, World Records, And Almond Squirts […]
Pablo is adorable! Looking forward to pulling out my own Thanksgiving decor too this week. Thanks for linking up for coffee
Take your time and recover from Ragnar Napa Valley first! 😉 Can’t wait to read all about it!
Pablo is so cute – hope he enjoys his visit!
He did and he’ll be back for another week on November 16th!
Fantastic!
