My Birthday Week
Contrary to how my friend Craig thinks I celebrated my birthday by barhopping and clubbing every night this past week (make that month), I kept it low-keyed. 😂😂😂 I worked a normal day and even opted to cook dinner on my actual birthday rather than going out. I met my good friend Vel for hot chocolate on Friday afternoon, which we capped off later with dinner with our husbands.
I was so busy on my birthday that I didn’t have a chance to look at Instagram until I fell into bed that night. I cracked up when I saw the four-picture story my son Daniel had posted hours earlier in honor of my special day. The first picture was of me holding Pablo as a puppy (he was such a little guy), the second was of Bill and me cross-country skiing when we lived in Utah, the third picture was of Daniel and me at the Grand Canyon this summer, and the last one was this… I laughed so hard!
Here’s the perfectly posed version of the above picture after I had determined that the red light was indeed flashing and my GoPro (affiliate link) was recording!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Two of my runs last week were at zero dark thirty and solo and both reminded me that winter is on its way. It was 21° on Wednesday’s run and even though I felt fine wearing capris during my run, my legs itched like crazy for about a half hour when I got back into our warm house. Apparently, I need to invest in replacement long tights now that I’m older and my skin is more sensitive to the cold.
On Saturday, I meet my friends for a wonderfully fun run. My friend Tracy kept me accountable to my planned five miles and the two of us turned around at 2.5-miles. It was so great seeing everyone again since I haven’t joined a group run in over two months.
The funny thing about this picture is that I cut a person off of each end by trying to get them to spread out and not scrunch together. Normally, everyone forgets that I’m shooting in wide angle and move in really tightly together and as a result you can’t see half of my friends faces because they’re standing a couple of people deep. Before posting those pictures I end up cropping massive amounts of empty space on each side of my friends.
As I got ready to shoot the video, I told everyone to spread out, and they did! It’s a work in progress and one of these days we’ll nail it!
Here’s an uncropped picture from early September where everyone was scrunched together. Look at how much room we had to spread out…
Biking
After my run on Saturday, I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) for a few miles. I didn’t push that hard or ride super long, just pedaled away while watching ESPN College GameDay.
Strength Training
I completed all three of my weekly goal of three weight lifting workouts.
Yoga
I did three of my weekly goal of four yoga sessions.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Real Life Functional Training and a Visit from Pablo
- Tuesday – Exploring Bryce Canyon National Park
- Thursday – It’s November 14th so that Means I’m Updating My Birthday Letter to Myself
Coming up this week, I hope to get one more recap completed from the time we spent hiking in Southern Utah (I have three left).
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- • Do you have any particularly funny stories about pictures you took, but deleted immediately?
- • What’s the coldest temps you’ve experienced so far this year? Any snow? ~ We had snow flurries on Tuesday!
- • Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
so glad you had a good birthday // birthday week! and that is funny what your son posted!!
most photos with Ron or both of us I have to take several of – he’s that person who always has their eyes shut on the photo or making a weird face unintentionally on the group photo! I have another friend, Kim, who’s exactly the same. I probably don’t have to tell you we don’t have a decent photo of the two of them together haha!
I know when we ran in Poland a couple of years ago it was the coldest I had experienced but I don’t remember the temperature. but it was freaking cold. not surprising, Poland in February…
no racing but I “ran” parkrun in Düsseldorf. Not that I’m allowed to run officially… don’t tell my physio…
Your secret is safe with me!
My mom always tells everyone how awful her pictures turn out, but it’s mostly because the whole time anyone is snapping pictures, she’s talking about how terrible she’ll look in the picture; and of course her mouth is all contorted in the photo because she was talking! LOL
As you know, I’ve written posts with my outtakes in them! I don’t always delete them because they tell the real story behind the run! Sounds like you had a fun birthday and really, as we get older, do we need a big celebration? I’d rather just be with my family.
Have a great week!
Yes, you wrote a fantastic post for Wednesday Word (the word was juxtaposition) showing pictures from two different angles. I loved it and remember it well!
That blooper pic is hilarious! I have so many of those, and I have not deleted all of them…yet. I have thought of doing a “my reality” post, showcasing me (or at least my pics) at my worst…but have not yet bitten that bullet. You probably saw how cold it got here this week..it was like mid-January! Sub-freezing on several days, and sub-ZERO with windchill. Way too early for that crap…

I did hear about how cold it got your way. Brrr… And yes, that’s way too early!
Happy birthday! Sounds like it was a fun one/week! Love the outtake pic with Pablo 🙂
Thanks, Jessie!
That outtake is so funny!! I do get a lot of odd shots with my phone. I have an app that takes motion activated shots, so it just clicks off a million pictures while I’m trying to capture that good one. As a side benefit I’ve been able to critique my running form from all of the pictures! Happy belated birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Lisa!
Glad you had a fantastic birthday! Those group selfies are tough and I’ve had some strange ones pop up as well when I go back to look
Thanks, Deborah!
Happy Birthday Deb! We had our first big snow storm here this week, and I think my stepsons were a little put out that the storm didn’t get bad until after they got to school, so the adults got a snow day and they didn’t.

Poor guys! Here, they cancel school if there’s a snow storm expected even if there’s not a flake falling when the morning buses run. Of course, we don’t have the same level of infrastructure to support massive snow removal that’s found in snowier climates.
Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday week (man, the number of Nov birthdays in our blogger group is kinda astounding!) — although I do NOT cook my own dinner on my birthday. Not even the ones I’ve had to celebrate by myself (and there have been a few).
Not sure I have any recent funny photo stories. I have poignant one to share of me, my Dad, and Bandit (although you wouldn’t know who is in it from the photo) I keep thinking I’ll share it on IG to share why I haven’t been on IG . . .
Judy, I can’t remember the last time I cooked on my birthday and have no idea why I chose to this year. LOL
I’ll watch for your IG picture of Bandit with your dad. It’s sounds very sweet.
[…] Sunday – Pictures: Final Cuts Versus Outtakes […]
Selfies are always a fun adventure. I have some outtakes on the theater line before we gave up and asked someone to take it.
GLad you had a great birthday
