It’s time to sit down once again and chat about things other than just running and training. Today’s focus, though, will mostly be about the race I’m about to run…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that today at 8:15 AM, I will be lining up to run in the Fiesta 5K, a race I learned about last year the day after it was run… I made a mental note to run it this year, and then forgot all about it until my MRTT friends mentioned it. I’m not even remotely in 5K shape, but I plan to have a good time and enjoy the morning with my friends!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m so excited about running a race on Cinco de Mayo, that I had a special shirt made!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I seriously considered ordering this fake margarita (affiliate link) to carry during the race, but when I learned that the margarita glass is actual glass and not acrylic, I opted not to purchase it. Can you imagine if I tripped and fell and sent shattered glass flying all over the race course? People would wonder if perhaps I’d sipped on a real margarita as part of my pre-race fueling!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that, like many Americans, I didn’t really remember why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated… so I Goggled it. In Mexico, May 5th is a day set aside to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862; and is celebrated in a more formal way with military parades. In the United States, we have put a very different twist on it as a day to celebrate Mexican-American culture. For me, a celebration where I can enjoy Mexican food and a margarita is a day I don’t want to miss!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that in addition to homemade chicken fajitas, we will be enjoying either margaritas…
Or Mexican martinis this evening…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that our huge kickoff to summer family barbecue on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend is just three weeks away and I haven’t sent out the evites. I’m usually so on top of my game that they go out six weeks in advance. I’m blaming the cold spring for making me think it’s earlier than it really is and that I still have plenty of time…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Bill went on a 70-mile bike ride on the C&O Canal yesterday. He’s much farther ahead on his Century Ride training than I am – I haven’t been on my bike since last August. 🙁
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you I bought all of my annuals on Wednesday, and found them all at Meadows Farms. Usually, I shop there first, but have to stop at several additional nurseries before I find everything I need. So far, I’ve only planted the blue wave petunias in the pots on my front porch. I’m hoping the weather will cooperate and I can plant everything else on Sunday afternoon.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup! Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
- What’s your favorite type of food? ~ Usually Mexican or Italian for me
- How’s your spring shaping up?

I haven’t done any planting yet–our weather is just too unpredictable right now! I am happy to see the fountains are turned on, tho. That’s a sure sign of spring!
Good luck at your race and have a celebratory margarita for me!
Our fountains were turned on about two weeks ago and that made me so happy! 😀
Also had no idea what Cinco De Mayo was all about! Hope you had fun this morning and I am so glad that the weather cleared. Crossing my fingers for tomorrow’s weather for my race. Thanks for linking up today!
Looks like the weather DID hold out for you this morning! 😀
I googled what today is actually about as well. Love your race shirt, and I am surprised those glasses are glass. I wouldn’t want to carry glass either.
Thanks, I got a lot of comments on my shirt at the race yesterday!
70 miles on the C&O is a lot – I find it hard with little/no grade change. I was going to get flowers today but didn’t see what I wanted and the line was so long. I may try again tomorrow. Thanks for joining us for coffee!
Seventy miles anywhere is a lot – LOL! And here I’m thinking of doing the Reston Century ride this year… 😉
Happy Cinco de Mayo!! We’ll also be celebrating with some amigos tonight as well…after I retire from the graduation party prep work.
Hope you had a fun evening!
I love your race shirt – so fun!
Thanks, Kim! And congrats to Rick again on his AG win yesterday!
LOVE the shirt you made and hope that your 5k went well yesterday. Glad you opted not to run with a fake glass margarita. LOL
Thanks, and yeah, I think it was wise not to run with breakable glass! 😉
Lost meaning of Cinco de Mayo is an interesting one. We (Americans in general) seem to do well with holiday corruption. St. Patrick’s comes to mind similarly. Haven’t found a good Cinco race here, likely because the Great Saunter (32 mile walk around Manhattan’s circumference), Jane’s Walks and the 5 Borough Bike Tour seem to “own” that weekend. We have a few other themes, but wonder if we have a big enough Mexican / Mexican American population here to warrant a Cinco race. The Washington Heights Salsa one is meant to be amazing.
A bunch of my running friends do the Five-Borough Bike Tour each year.
When I’m in town (frequent conference weekend) I do the Great Saunter. I like but don’t love biking.
