Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup! Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I actually drank a cup of coffee yesterday morning. It was my first cup since I went on some fad diet in 1980 where I had to drink one cup of coffee a day (I later realized that was due to coffee being a diuretic). Just like back then, I let it get cool so I could drink it fast in hopes of my tastebuds not noticing the bitterness. Yesterday, I had to drink it black because I was having blood work done at my annual physical and couldn’t eat or drink anything other than water (or black coffee) until after they drew blood at 2 PM after my doctor’s appointment. Since I couldn’t drink my usual sports drink of choice, which does have a little caffeine, I opted for the only option, one cup of black coffee. Next year I’ll make sure to call several months in advance so I can get an early morning appointment. And if you ever hear me saying that I’ve learned to like coffee, suspect that I’m adding very large amounts of sugar to it!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d remind you that last month I declared that I don’t like most things pumpkin so I don’t get into the pumpkin spice craze. I then proceeded to share a picture of pumpkin pie flavored ice cream sandwiches I saw at Whole Foods declaring that they had ruined a perfectly good ice cream sandwich. 😉 Since then I’ve continued to be amused at the amount of pumpkin spice foods and beverages I’ve seen, most notably, this…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’ve been in a redecorating mood the last few weeks. After at least sixteen years with the same comforter, pillows, rugs, valances, etc., I changed them out for something more updated. I went with an off-white quilted bedspread with toss pillows in spa blues and greens to match the two new area rugs that are a combo of those two colors. I’m going for calm and relaxing, but at the moment my eyes are crossed from looking at so many shades of blues and greens and trying to pick up the right colors from the rug.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that as a result of my redecorating mood, I’ve been in a cleaning-out-crap kind of mood. Those ferns along our Jacuzzi – the tub that we’ve never use except for ice baths after long runs – didn’t stand a chance and got tossed unless they were thriving. I’ve donated 1990’s to 2010 era tchotchkes and still have more to go. I’ve finally realized that every surface doesn’t need to be a resting spot for a decorative item and have learned to appreciate clean, unobstructed visuals. 😉
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I just bought my first pair of Injinji toe socks socks (affiliate link). I’ve decided to give them a try because my beloved Feetures (affiliate link) have started driving me nuts. I’ve mentioned before that sometime my Feetures slip down and gather around my arch which is quite uncomfortable and annoying. Also, they fit very snuggly which I love because I never got blisters in the past when I wore them; however, as a result of the snug fit, my toes are squeezed very tightly together to the point they’re about to cross over each other. I don’t know if this is being caused by my tight socks or if it’s an old person problem. LOL Anyway, now that my toes are rubbing together, I’m starting to get blisters and corns (now that’s really an old person problem) and I’m hoping the toe socks will help prevent this.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d also tell you that as a result of the above toe problems, I recently bought toe spacers at the running store. I’ve owned a pair of yoga toes (affiliate link) for years, but the gel material they’re made of sticks against my sheets and reading in bed at night is a great time to wear them. My new toe spacers are much smaller and made of a foam material that allows me to move my feet easily under the covers. I’ll keep my old yoga toes in the basement to put on while watching football.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I put up my Thanksgiving decorations this week. I do enjoy my assorted silly little pilgrims, Indians, turkeys, and pumpkins that I’ve collected over many years. I’m also digging my new hurricanes I picked up this fall from Pier 1. I think they’ll make a great year-round addition to my dining room table, with or without the flowers.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!
- Questions:
- Do you enjoy decorating? If so, do you do it on your own or hire a professional?
- Have you tried Injinji toe socks? If so, do you like them?
- Are you racing today or tomorrow?

You know I love my Injinji socks, right? Right around the time I was diagnosed with RA, Tailwind sent me a pair of Injiniji socks to try. After a few wears, I was sold. My toes love having their own little houses. It’s pretty amazing!
I want to redecorate so badly! But we’ve got some things that need to be done here, like the furnace and the roof. Priorities, right?
I wore my new Injinji socks this morning and liked them! I want to wear them a few more times before I order any more pairs. I was surprised that neither of my local running stores carry them.
Ugh, I hate spending money on stuff I already have that’s broken. That’s just not fun at all.
I am curious to see how you enjoy the toe socks?! Are they are pain to get on? I love decorating for Thanksgiving that is on my agenda for this week too when I get home. Happy birthday month to us!
I will keep you posted on what I think of the socks. I wore them yesterday for 8 miles and liked them; just wish I’d had them for my 15-miler last week. I plan to wear them on both of my runs this week and will decide after that whether or not to wear them in the race on Sunday.
YES! Happy birthday month to us!
You might find coffee more tolerable with one of those yummy to-die-for creamers on the market! I want to try Injini socks. I’ve been a Swiftwick girl for years, but they’ll slip down if there’s moisture in the air.
I’ve tried my husband’s sweet iced coffees from Starbucks and didn’t like them, yet I love Baileys and Toasted Almonds. Go figure…
I’ve never paid attention to the humidity and my socks slipping down. My feet down sweat much so I never thought of that. I’ll have to keep that in mind in the future. Thanks!
Oh, wow, I was bummed when my physical was at 10 am. I could not have lasted until 2 pm! I haven’t tried socks like that yet. I’m afraid they’d bunch up around my little toe, which is so little. I have another Half next weekend that I am not ready for. I’ve been travelling so much I haven’t been able to run longer than 5 miles.
I hope you enjoy your half marathon next weekend even if you can’t compete like you’d hoped to do.
Well, I did race this morning…in the low 40-degree temps (with nonstop mist). All went well, even though I ran the first two miles much faster than I thought I was actually running. I have used the Injinji socks and I like them, but SmartWool is still my preference. Decorating…I’m a DIY gal (#artgeek), but I have been rather stagnant in recent years and a lot of stuff needs updating…
Can’t wait to read your recap! The weather sounds perfect, but even though I prefer no mist, it certainly does help keep us from getting too hot.
I have a bunion which makes my toe cross over. I like Balegas. I did try injinis but it didn’t seem to make a difference.
I love flavored creamers in my coffee!!
Have you tried toe spacers? I’m curious if people who use them think they help. I think they relax my toes after I wear them, but I’m not sure they help with straightening them back out…
I do wear them. Yes they help. But I don’t wear them while running.
I am doing a lot of decorating lately. We moved in April so I feel like it all I have been doing. This month I hope to finish up our home office and great room. I am with you on the pumpkin spice craze.
Oh fun! I do enjoy the decorating process, but enjoy the finished product even more! 😀
I’ve never actually tried Injinji socks, but I do love toe socks! They were weird at first, but now I only run in them. I would frequently get bloody toes from rubbing and now that never happens. I hope they work out well for you!
That’s great to hear. Thanks for sharing!
I hate having my toes squeezed, too. I like injiji, but I don’t use them for running a lot because I also like having more padding in my socks! And I have a couple of toes and the side of my foot that bother me in some shoes . . . sigh.
I have begun my Thanksgiving prep. But I’m not much of a decorator. Mr. Judy& I were discussing it, and I think I’ll have to use real plates this year because I’ll also be using my mother’s silver. Sigh. Too much work! At least we’re a small group. I’ll miss my second cousin who was such a great help last year (and I didn’t even really know him before he came — he just happened to be working up here, but has since moved away).
How fun that you got to meet a new relative last year at your Thanksgiving celebration! Other than decorating and planning the menu in my head, I haven’t really started my Thanksgiving prep. I’ll start that as soon as I return from my race trip next weekend.
I had met him before, but not super often. He moved away not long after that. His mother is the cousin I met up with at my parents’ this year, though, and I told her how I’d miss having his help for Thanksgiving this year!
Decorating? What’s that? 😉
I did take a peek at my mom’s silver — it doesn’t appear to need to be polished which makes me super happy!
I bought a pair of Injinji socks years ago but only wore them once. I remember not liking the feeling of fabric between my toes. I swear by Smartwool and Balegas! Your new bedroom decor sounds really nice. My room could so use an update!
I kind of liked my toe socks when I wore them yesterday on my run, but I’m still not sure if I’ll wear them in next weekend’s half marathon…
I’m not a big coffee drinker, yet I seem to tolerate iced coffee for some reason…I have no idea what it is!
Decorating is a lot of fun…I’ve definitely become more interested in it now that I have my own house. We have some fall decorations around the house and it was fun shopping for everything! I do need to decide how to do the Christmas lights this year since I have more motivation this year!
I haven’t tried the toe socks…I always worry that they will cause more blisters, lol! Socks that slip down while you’re running are the worst!
It’s going to be so fun for you to decorate this year for Christmas in your new home! Enjoy!
