~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
It’s time again to join in on the fun and clear my conscious of recent running, biking, fitness, and nutrition related faux pas. I know I’ll feel better when I’m done, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a laugh or two in the process!
I runfess: While biking with my husband in complete darkness last Wednesday at 5 AM, we found it difficult to see unlit runners and walkers until we were right on top of them even though we had powerful headlights (affiliate link) on both of our bikes. I made a mental note to put out a PSA to my running friends who run in the dark to remind them to wear headlamps and clip on lights (affiliate links) so they’d be more visible on the trail. Despite this, I headed out for my Saturday morning run choosing not to use my lights because “the sun would be up in fifteen minutes” and I didn’t want the hassle of carrying my lights once I no longer needed them.
I runfess: I am the current day version of the woman in this 1940’s ad…
Often when I go straight from my run to the gym without time to shower, I change into dry clothes and spritz on a little Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar mist. I’ve even had people tell me that I smell so good and that I must have just hopped out of the shower. No, my hair is actually wet from sweat and body mist, not the shower… 😉
My Mifflin…
I runfess: A couple of weeks ago a neighbor stopped me to chat right after I headed out on my run. Once I resumed running, I forgot to restart my Garmin (affiliate link) until I’d run close to a half mile (based on landmarks). Once home, I did what any good runner would do and I hopped in my car and drove very, very slowly around my neighborhood to make up that missed mileage. I’m not even kidding, I really did that.
I bikefess: Similarly, when on a recent gravel ride my bike Garmin (affiliate link) showed 16.87 as we finished our ride and returned to the bike store. Both my friend Susan and I rode around the parking lot until we got to an even 17 miles. 😜
I bikefess: I mentioned this in my Weekly RunDown, so if you’ve already read it, skip ahead… While on a bike ride with my husband, he pulled over and stopped. I pulled up beside him and just as I stopped I realized that I hadn’t unclipped. I could have easily peddled on to give myself time to unclip since we weren’t at a road crossing, but instead I panicked and fell over, landing on my left elbow and knee. Other than a slightly bruised elbow, skinned knee, and an even more bruised pride, I was fine.
I runfess: I still haven’t made anything from my Run Fast. Eat Slow (affiliate link) cookbook by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky; and I’m going to keep runfessing this until I embarrass myself to the point of making something… anything! Apparently, I’m not easily embarrassed because we’re going on two years…
There you have it, my most recent runfessions; and you can bet that it feels good to get another set off of my chest! See you next month in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- Do you find it gross not to shower the second you finish your run?
- Have you ever run an extra few hundred yards so your Garmin lands on a nice even number?
- What are your runfessions?

I love vanilla! You just made me want to make a trip to bath & body works haha!! I’ve made several recipes from RFES cookbook!! I love it! But, they can be time consuming and some ingredients are so new to me. So I don’t use it as often as I’d like.
My friend made the veggie lasagna from the RFES cookbook for our runner friends for dinner one night and it was delicious. I’ve been meaning to make it ever since… 😉
A running friend gave me Run Fast, Eat Slow several years ago. Even though I thought it looks like a great cookbook, I still haven’t made anything from it either! Maybe you and I could both try something from it this month and compare notes! 🙂

That would be a great idea, but I’m afraid that I might let you down.
I’m surprised you made up the missed miles! I’d runfess that I just go in the app and correct it to include my miles!
I didn’t know that I could do that! LOL
Now if you ever make something from RFES you’ll break your “tradition”! Haha! A cashier just told me yesterday how nice I smelled. I only had B&BW lotion on. Now I wonder how overpowering it might be. Can’t be some Warm Vanilla Sugar in a pinch though! Thanks for linking!
I know, right? I guess if I do ever make something from RFES, I’ll have to get a new cookbook to “not use.” 😀
I was worried about an un-lit runner I saw on the bike path today with lots of bike commuters about to overtake him. It’s dangerous enough in full day light!
LOL on the vanilla spray — hey, whatever it takes.
I am much less likely to round-up a bike ride than a run.
I was quite surprised at how hard it was to see runners. It was good to be on the other side so now I know. Normally, I am quite well-lit on my runs.
Shower wipes are my friend! But I hadn’t thought about spritzing something on so I’d smell good, too.
I ended my run at 2.80 yesterday. Nuff said.
LOL about the lack of lights on your own run!
I used to use shower wipes plus spritz, but I’m out of wipes and need to pick some up. Thanks for the reminder!
That is too funny that you drove to make up the mileage!! If I know I am going to do a second workout later in the day I sometimes change but not shower. I use shower wipes sometimes and wash my face
I just learned from Wendy that I could have gone into the Garmin app and corrected it – I had no idea I could do that. Instead, I looked like I was casing my neighbors’ houses by driving by so slowly. LOL
I runfess (sweatfess?) that I often do not shower immediately after a hot run (or workout). My body needs time to cool down first or else I’ll still be sweating in the shower. Often times, I don’t have time to wash the hair, so I spray a bunch of dry shampoo and do the famous messy bun and go (especially if I have plans for another workout later).
A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! 😉
A woman in my running group said she had something called a “Dude Wipe”. Sexist branding for sure, but I thnk it’s safe to assume men are way more likely to wipe and go. I try to get in a shower, but it’s not always possible. Love me some warm vanilla sugar, especially the hanitizer.
I like round numbers. I really like hundredths when I can’t because Strava is so dumb
THe cookbook mocks me. I honestly don’t know why I bought it. My oven hasn’t been turned on in seven years

Perhaps the Dude Wipes are just part of a men’s line of grooming products and not intended to be sexist at all. Whatever the case, they (or baby wipes) are a great option. I ran out of baby wipes since my last Ragnar and need to replace them (I’d sort of forgotten all about using them – LOL). They’d be great to use before spritzing on my mist. I’ve not tried the Warm Vanilla Sugar hanitizer. I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Oh no, Dude Wipes are absolutely sexist, but they work
Warm vanilla on my hands now on a slightly damp day. Hello fall
