~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
It’s time again to join in on the fun and clear my conscious of recent running, biking, fitness, nutrition, and because of the times, grooming related faux pas. I know I’ll feel better when I’m done, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll give you a laugh or two in the process!
Desperate times call for desperate measures so at least for this month, I’m adding a new fession – introducing groomfessions…
I groomfess: My eyebrows are getting blond and in desperate need of a tint. They’re so blond that they pretty much match the color of my skin and I share the look of a bored toddler who shaved off her eyebrows. Believe me, it’s a better look on the toddler.
I groomfess: My dark brown gel polish on my nails has grown half way out on eight of my nails and flaked completely off of the other two. I just don’t have it in me to soak the polish off like my manicurist does at the salon. Seriously though, why do I even care since I rock purple nitrile gloves (affiliate link) on the rare occasions I leave my house.
I groomfess: My hair has gotten too long and lost any semblance of shape. My bob has turned into a box.
I groomfess: These days I consider myself dressed up whenever I put on a bra and I don’t think I’ve worn pants other than capris, shorts, or pajama bottoms since March 11th.
I runfess: Remember when I was excited to change up my running log to The Complete Runner’s Day-by-Day Log (affiliate link) at the beginning of the year? So far I’ve logged in lots of walks and bike rides, but only three wannabe runs – walks with a few run intervals thrown in and those were Sunday, Tuesday, and this morning. Hopefully, there will be lots of new running entries as I slowly make my comeback to running in the upcoming weeks.
I eatfess: Last Runfessions I admitted that I had been a little looser on my nutrition during my birthday to New Year’s time frame and needed to buckle down. I got very focused and got back to better eating habits which lasted through Easter. It’s time for this old girl to get focused, again.
I cookfess: I give up! If I still haven’t made anything from my Run Fast. Eat Slow (affiliate link) cookbook during my extra time while staying home during this pandemic, it’s not going to happen. So despite me saying that I’m going to keep runfessing this until I embarrass myself to the point of making something, this is the last time I’m bringing this up. 😉
There you have it, my most recent runfessions; and you can bet that it feels good to get another set off of my chest! See you next month in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- • What are your groomfessions?
- • If you’ve had a prolonged injury in the past, how did you make your way back to running? Walking with run intervals? Very short runs? Something else?

I had a hair appointment scheduled for Thursday (March 26th) and it was that Monday (March 23rd) when our governor ordered all the salons (etc.) closed. UGH. She couldn’t have waited a few extra days? So, yeah, my dark roots are looking almost black…and they’re long (LOL). And my bangs are a mess because I’m trying to grow them out a little longer, and the rest of my hair needs to be layered to “blend” with said bangs. Groomfessions…you’re welcome 😉
I had a similar situation with getting my eyebrows tinted. As Maxwell Smart would say, “I missed it by this much.” And yes, I know that I’m really aging myself – so much so that you might not even get it. LOL
Well, it’s my trademark to let my hair go too long between cuts. I think the longest I ever went was about 5 months, and had nothing to do with a pandemic (that was during the whole back & forth to my parents thing). So I’m only at 2 months right now, it’s still reasonable. 🙂
Oh, and I’m REALLY glad that I did away with my bangs a few years ago . . .
I feel like I’m eating fairly well, but the scale isn’t agreeing with me. It’s not bad — yet, but I definitely need to do something.

Yeah, I’m similar with going quite a while between cuts. I tell my hairdresser all the time that he would go broke if all of his clients were like me. I get my hair cut about every four months and I get highlights twice a year. My eyebrows, though, need to be dyed darker every five weeks.
My bob has turned into a pyramid, lol! It’s quite wide at the bottom, but I use my flatiron to smooth it out and it’s ok. What is becoming an issue are my roots. I’ve been touching them up but the outgrowth is quite long now–about an inch. The touchup product works pretty well at camoflaging my gray but it doesn’t cover it completely. Sigh. First world problems indeed!
When you say that your bob has turned into a pyramid I picture the women in the Dilbert cartoons. HaHa!
I groomfess I’m sporting a skunk stripe. With our SIP order extended til May 30 now, I’ll definitely need to take matters into my own hands. My daughter gets a dip manicure. The other day she had to pry that stuff off and file (grind?) them down. The struggle is real. I think I mentioned before I made one thing out of RFES years ago. I should probably add it to the donation pile. Except there’s nowhere to take it now either. THanks for linking!
Virginia’s governor originally closed most things until June 10th, but it sounds like he might allow some places to open earlier if trends work in our favor. Hopefully, we’ll all be able to move on from our unkempt look sooner rather than later. 😉
Oh my eyebrows! And I really need a lip wax as well. I did take off my dip nail polish it was very challenging and I broke all of my nails. I decided to just cut them back and start over. They are growing back. My feet are another story! I hope by the time we are set free they won’t look so bad as I run to the manicurist! First world problems indeed!
Salons are going to have to stay open 24/7 for months to get us all caught up once the mandate is lifted! HaHa!
Thanks for reminding me about Run Fast Eat Slow. A friend gave it to me several Christmases ago and I STILL haven’t made anything from it either. Let’s have a contest to see which one of us makes something from the cookbook first. I think you will win! 🙂
One of the benefits of being a slob is that I don’t have to worry about a lack of grooming during the quarantine. I don’t do nail polish or color my hair, so I don’t have to worry about that. I just had a haircut right before the lockdown, so I am not due for another until the beginning of May, although our region in the state won’t have salons open by then.
I was so afraid to step in the scale that I didn’t do it for almost a month. I just did this morning and I was within 1 pound of my previous weight. Yay!
Good luck adding running back into your routine. Baby steps!

Please don’t hold your breath waiting on me to win! LOL
Yay for maintaining your weight. At our age those pounds sneak up on us way too easily!
I’m pretty low maintenance, so I’m good. I did use sandpaper and acetone on my SNS and I bought some Color Street nail polish strips from a friend to do my own manicure. It came out decently. My roots could probably use a touchup and my brows a wax, but I’ll manage.
And yes. Bras are just not happening over here unless I’m working out. Not interested.
I remember reading that you’d taken your polish off yourself and I was very impressed.
I see your cookfession and raise. I got the book from the library, flipped through it, and was just like, um there’s not a single thing here that my family would eat and BTW nothing that I really want to eat either. Congrats on your return to running.!

LOL – that cookbook seems to be getting similar reviews from many of my friends.
I am super thankful that I’m a low maintenance girl. My hair is getting really long, but since it’s just long and straight to begin with, it’s not a problem. And I actually wore jeans a couple of weeks ago just to feel like I made an effort in my appearance. (I wore jeans, a bra, and a t-shirt – but I still didn’t do my hair or makeup, so it was kind of half assed, but it worked.)

Low maintenance is good even when we’re not self isolating due to a pandemic. I loath “wasting” time whenever I have a hair or nail appointment, but I like the results so I keep going back. I am lazy about my hair and only have it cut four times a year at most, sometimes only three times…
Stay safe!

Groomfessions, LOL. My two-inch roots are pretty bad, but I actually don’t care about that. The result of the pandemic is either going to be long hair, or roots the length of my pre-pandemic cut and I’ll have solved the growing out issue. I’m not sure i’m ready to go gray though, even though I keep saying i’m done with the maintenance. I was tempted to go purple the other day.
I got a non-gel manu just before this all started and it flaked itself off. My toes are enjoying life without polish, although that & sushi will be my first stop when this is all over
Roots the length of your pre-pandemic hair… We’ll be able to tell how long the pandemic lasted by measuring the length of people’s roots much like we can determine the age of a tree by counting its rings. LOL
hahaha. Yes! Pandemic hair age!

Sorry if you get this twice, it’s glitching.

Groomfessions – I love it! I can relate…my eyebrows are scary looking these days and I’m really need to shave my legs more often than I do. Fortunately I’ve finally started doing something with my hair!
I have that cookbook too and I’ve only made a couple of things since owning it, which is amazing for me because usually, I’m so terrible about cooking!
Glad you’re making progress on your runs, though I can understand the frustration!

Thanks, Janelle! It sounds like you’ve tried more recipes from the book than anyone else I know other than the friend who recommended it to me.
I started dying my hair at home and learned how to use nail dip powders.

Some of my friends said they ordered the nail dip powders, too. From their pictures, their nails looked really good.
