~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
I runfess: After declaring that I’m in Ragnar retirement, I came this close (I’m holing my forefinger and thumb very closely together) to letting Ravi and Murali talk me into joining their Ragnar Poconos team. They were on my original 2014 Ragnar DC team and we crossed paths and hung out together at one of the major exchanges at the 2016 Ragnar DC. I ended up declining because I have the Grand Tetons Half just two weeks prior and I have a feeling that running a half at high altitude is going to beat me up and I don’t want to let my friends down by not running my best while on their team.
I runfess: Even though I have been quite consistent with adding several days of yoga each week into my workout repertoire for almost two years, I recently stopped seeing any improvement. The reason? After over stretching my back in a very painful way during yoga last year, I became overly cautious in my poses (especially standing forward bends) and actually felt like I took a few steps backward in my flexibility. My recent goal has been to focus on carefully holding my poses deeper again and I’m already seeing positive results. It’s amazing how you see results when you do things the correct way!
I runfess: I have a runfession that is so embarrassing that I can only tell you in person if we go on a run together. 😉 Obviously it has to do with running, but running and what? Well, three out of the last four times I ran…
I runfess: When my alarm went off at 4:30 this morning I rolled over and texted my friends to tell them that I was going back to sleep for two more hours and I’d catch them next time. If I’d gotten up then I’d have once again gotten less than five hours of sleep (that happened before Tuesday morning’s run) and even though that happens at least once a week, I know it’s not good for me. Now I’m stuck squeezing in a run alone later today…
I runfess: If you’ve read my blog for long you probably have heard me mention my love for Skinny Pop popcorn and how I have so little self control when it’s around that I rarely buy it. Last weekend, I caved while in Costco and picked up a couple of those big bags, you know, the ones designed to feed a family of four for a week. Those suckers will not stop pestering me and are causing me to eat handfuls at a time. The nerve…
I runfess: I still haven’t tried making any recipes from my new cookbook, Run Fast. Eat Slow (affiliate link). Right now I’m too busy shoveling popcorn into my pie hole to have time to cook…
Ahhh yes, it feels good to get another set of runfessions off of my chest. See you next month in the runfessional.

I runfess that I bought that cookbook because it was cheap. I haven’t cooked anything from it yet.
I have big plans…
I’m guessing it has something to do with the digestive system?
I runfess I like to air pop my popcorn and then drown it in butter.
But sometimes I just want a little at night, so I buy the small individual bags (even though I runfess I hate that all that packaging is bad for the environment, but all that popcorn is bad for my figure, too).
It’s been a sleep deprived week for me, too. I was doing so good until Bandit wanted to keep waking me up in the middle of the night for no reason whatsoever. There’s always something with that dog.
Can’t wait to hear your race report for Grand Tetons so I’ll have a better idea of whether or not I really want to run it some day. I very briefly considered that AND yellowstone, but tempting as it was, I knew that was just too much for me. Frankly, the description for Yellowstone has me thinking that isn’t the race for me, but I’m pretty sure I could do Grand Tetons. Just slowly. 🙂 Which would be totally worth it for those views!
You would be guessing correctly!
Oh my goodness, as soon as I read that Yellowstone would be the half (out of all of the National Park halves) where I might need to use my bear spray, I decided it wasn’t the race for me. 😉 Bill and I hiked 15 miles roundtrip to Lake Solitude in the Tetons when we honeymooned there, and the following year when we went back to make the hike again. When a park ranger told us to be aware that grizzles had been spotted in the area, I refused to go.
For me it wasn’t the bears (didn’t really think about that, and of course I’d be way BOTP so I would have to worry about it!) — no, it was just the toughness of the race, and the 2 races together.
That’s too bad you weren’t able to do the hike again. 🙁
I’ve pretty much shared all my embarrasing GI incidents, so I’m thinking that’s where you are going. I feel you.
The Run Fast Eat Slow cookbook is 2.99 on the Kindle today!
I have never done a Ragnar race, but it’s on my wish list. I hope to do it one day!
I have that same cookbook but have only made a handful of recipes. I would like to change that this year!
I think Ragnar races are a lot of fun, but I’ve found that people either love them or hate them. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of middle ground. If I were younger, I’m sure I would have joined my friends’ team. They take a lot out of you!
I have never done a Ragnar (hello, they do not happen in Iowa #sadface),but I have done a similar team relay that involved a very long day driving to/from all the exchange points. I have not bought that cookbook…yet.
Oh yes, I do remember reading about your relay race a couple of years ago. If you buy the cookbook, you could add to growing number of people I know who own the book, but haven’t made any recipes from it. 😉
I’ve had Run Fast Eat Slow for over a year…I used to make recipes from it pretty often but now I sort of forget about it. But my husband LOVES the bacon wrapped chicken so I try to make that for him once in awhile. I think when i started doing yoga I would overdo it. I grew up dancing and am naturally pretty flexible so I would try to get into all these bendy positions, which is not necessarily a good thing! Now I try to make sure I am doing the poses correctly and actually listen to my body…although yoga only happen maybe once a month now…
Oh, I’ll have to look up that bacon wrapped chicken recipe you mention! It sounds amazing!
I runfess I broke my Ragnar pint glass the other day and y heart broke right with it. I didn’t plan on running another one but now….
Apparently not cooking from RFES is all the rage right now. :p
I think I just commented something similar about RFES on your Runfessions post. 😉
You can order a new Ragnar pint glass from the online Ragnar store. It would be a lot cheaper than running the race and buying one there. LOL
I probably over do the skinny pop as well. It really is so good. Now I am dying to know your secret runfession! Will you be at the for the love 10K again next week?
The kids will all be in town next weekend so I won’t be running the race this year. I’m bummed that I won’t see you again this year!
I was gifted with that cookbook but runfess to only trying a couple of things. OK one. I will say I made the Superhero Muffins quite a few times though. I’m trying to remember to do a weekly hip/glute yoga routine. It just seems to take so long (30 mins–ha ha). No Ragnar. Yet.
I think I first heard of the cookbook from you a couple of years ago when you mentioned making those yummy muffins a few times. 🙂
Hmmm I runfess I have to stop all the time now and pop a squat behind the school even on shorter runs, my bladder stinks these days.
I think I would pass on Ragnar too! Grand Teton will be aweosme.
Ugh, don’t you just hate that? Things just don’t work like they used to… LOL
