~ Runfessions ~
A collection of statements admitting
that one is guilty of a variety of running crimes…
I runfess: Sometimes I can be cheap… My knees started bothering me about four months ago and I couldn’t understand why they would both start bothering me at once. My shoes were ready to be replaced so I thought that might be the problem and bought new ones. That didn’t help, but then I remembered that I’d run out of my Move Free Joint Health supplement (affiliate link) and, being cheap, hadn’t replaced it. I bought more, started taking it again and after about four days, voila, no more pain!
I runfess: I’m so careful about putting sunscreen on my face, arms and torso, but not as good about making sure my legs are completely slathered. After having a place removed from above my knee on Monday resulting in a 2.5-inch incision, I will be better about it in the future.
I runfess: I’m kind of enjoying the extra sleep I’m getting this week while I can’t run, but sure do miss my running friends. Speaking of my running friends, Lupe and Tracy stopped by on Wednesday with treats for the invalid and we had the most wonderful visit!
I runfess: I’m really depressed about missing the Army Ten-Miler next weekend. 🙁 I’d planned to run it with Jess, my son Daniel’s girlfriend, but I’m sidelined from running until the week after the race. It’s a race I’ve never run and I was really looking forward to running this local iconic race for the first time.
I runfess: After this little blip, I’m more than a little nervous about meeting my goal of PR’ing at the OBX Half Marathon. Training was going fantastic and I was starting to hit all of my goal paces. Time will tell as to whether or not I can get right back into running where I left off, or if I’ll be back behind the curve when I resume running just five weeks before the race. Either way, I plan to have fun on my girls’ weekend getaway!
I runfess: I haven’t ridden my bike since mid-August…
Ahhh yes, it feels good to get another set of runfessions off of my chest. See you next month in the runfessional.
- Questions:
- What supplements do you take that you feel really make a difference?
- Are you good about using sunscreen?
- What are your runfessions?

Ah, bummer on missing ATM, but hopefully you can do it next year. I am pretty good about using sunscreen but always seem to miss a spot. Hope your recovery is going well!
Thanks, Coco! Are you running ATM this year?
So sorry you have to miss AT but it’ll be there when you’re ready. Very glad you caught that spot. Such an important reminder. Those Snappers call to me at Costco every time I’m there!
Thanks, Marcia. It’s a bummer, but at least I can still run the OBX Half which is my fall focus race.
Such a shame about that melanoma. I need to get my skin checked. I’m not good about sunscreen.
I’ve made it my mission in life to remind people to use sunscreen and to get their bodies checked regularly. 🙂
I have an appointment to get a full mole scan on October 12 – maybe I should move that back to after MCM in case they find anything…
You are a strong runner, I bet you get back in the groove quickly.
If they find anything they’ll do a biopsy and you’ll have to wait for those results to come back, and then schedule the removal. It will be at least a week or two turnaround unless it’s something really serious and then you’ll want it out of there ASAP anyway. When I had the place on my face biopsied and got the results that it was a melanoma I wanted to wait until after Christmas to have the surgery, but my surgeon said no, and I had it removed just a few days before Christmas.
Like you, I have gotten much better about using sunscreen on my face but not as much on my legs. Thanks for the reminder. That’s a bummer about ATM but have to look at the big picture. I’ve wondered about whether those join supplements really do anything! I will check them out thanks
I’ve been using Move Free for many years and had started to wonder if I was just wasting my money. My little unplanned test proved that I’m not. 🙂
I thought you might like to know that after I was diagnosed with melanoma this August, I came back here and reread all your posts about what it’s been like for you. It’s a big switch for this brown eyed formerly dark haired woman who didn’t worship the sun to now have to think like my red-headed husband with the sunscreen and covering up.
Thank you for making this situation less unknown.
I am so happy to hear that my posts were beneficial to you, but so bummed that you needed to reread them due to your own melanoma diagnosis. Regular skin checks and self awareness of every little detail on our skin are our best defenses in fighting this disease.
The skin cancer thing is SO scary because it’s mostly preventable. Bummer you have to miss that race…but, yes, the bigger picture trumps the here & now 😉 Take care!
So true, and when I look at the chances of getting skin cancer based on the number of bad sunburns gotten when younger, I really get mad at myself.
