A Good Week for Blogging
I spent quite a bit more time than usual this week working on blog posts. I really wanted to get my shoppers guide out during this busy holiday shopping time and wanted to get my turkey trop recapped before today’s race. Also, my husband and I had some exciting news to share, and over coffee seemed like the perfect time and place!
Running
As I mentioned in my turkey trot recap, I felt a twinge in my right glute/hamstring during my final mile. I was able to finish the race without too much discomfort, but as I attempted to run home after the race I had a noticeable limp. Once home, I popped a couple of Advil to get me through the day and felt much better. So much so that I didn’t follow up with any more Advil and pretty much went about my weekend activities without putting much thought into the injury.
Late Sunday afternoon I headed out for a run and other than being slower than mud, I felt pretty good. I assumed that the pain had been nothing more than a little niggle caused by running the race quite a bit faster than the paces in which I’d been training.
I headed out early Tuesday morning for a run and felt that familiar pain as I approached my third mile. Luck would have it that I was back in front of my house so I headed in early and hopped on my spin bike to complete my workout.
During Thursday’s run I felt some minimal pain around three miles, but I was able to push through all five planned miles without too much discomfort. With that run behind me, I decided to take it easy and skip Saturday’s run so I could rest for my 5K on Sunday.
Biking
As I mentioned above, I rode my bike on Tuesday when I had to cut my run short. I rode again on Saturday, another somewhat shortened ride, but it felt good to get in a little cardio. Both days, I was somewhat aware of my glute as I sat on my bike saddle, but it wasn’t terribly bad so I continued with both short rides.
I kept forgetting to set up my new a bike Garmin (affiliate link) so I could use it when I rode my spin bike. I need to get my IT guy on it! Until then, I’m reduced to manually logging my rides into my training log.
Strength Training
As much as I like strength training, I don’t find it particularly exciting to talk about or photograph. With that being said, on Saturday I taught my fitness orientation class at the gym where I talk about cardiovascular and strength training nonstop for two and a half hours…
Yoga
I’d really wanted to try Five Parks Yoga that Wendy originally brought to my attention and Laurie recently mentioned trying. Sometimes not reinventing the wheel is easier so I slipped my tried and true Rodney Yee yoga DVD (affiliate link) into the player rather than pulling up a new-to-me routine. Perhaps this week I’ll give a new routine a try.
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – One of my Lightest Workout Weeks in Ages
- Tuesday – Stress Free Shopping for Gifts for Your Favorite Runner
- Thursday – 2018 Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 5K Race Recap
- Friday – Park Benches, Lost Medals, and Gradually Heading Toward the Dark Side
Looking ahead to this coming week…
- Tuesday – I’m rerunning a blog favorite about searching for the perfect Christmas tree when I was a little girl.
- Thursday – I hope to have my Run With Santa 5K recapped
In addition to the runs I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you have any gadgets that you haven’t taken the time to figure out how to use yet? ~ When Bill got me my first GoPro, I was so intimidated that it took me six months to start using it on my own.
- Do you have any holiday themed races on your calendar?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
I’ll fire up Rodney Yee every once in a while, but I really enjoy FPY–she’s just so “normal” and she continues to add classes to her YouTube channel. You’ll have to let me know what you think.
I hope your leg is feeling better!
I’m hoping to try FPY this week and I’ll definitely let you know how I like it.
Hope that hamstring is feeling better this week. I hate it when little things like that just pop up! I just signed up for the 15K jingle all the way next weekend. Should be fun if the weather cooperates
Thank you! A bunch of my friends are running that race, too. I’d considered signing up with them, but then I remembered I’m having another basal cell removed on Wednesday and won’t be able to run for two weeks… Perhaps it’s good timing because I’ll be forced to give my injury some time to heal.
Rodney Yee was one of my first home yoga DVD’s. Actually I think it was a VHS. Lol! Are those even around anymore?
LOL, I had his VHS tapes, too, and then bought DVD’s when we switched over.
I should really try some of these at-home yoga classes; I just tried to go to Corepower near my house and parking was so bad I didn’t get there until 3 minutes after the class started and they wouldn’t let me in! Anyways, I hope your leg is feeling better. Just caught up on your earlier post and the donated bench is very cool!
Oh missing yoga because of parking would be very frustrating.
Thank you, we’re pretty excited about the bench.
Hope your injury is feeling better soon. I am still giving my hip another week. I am going to try the Yin Fusion yoga recommended by Wendy tomorrow. It’s 70 minutes! I usually just do about 30 or 40. We’ll see how it goes! 🙂
That’s a long class – I hope you enjoy it. I usually stick with the 30 minute or shorter ones. I’m afraid if they were much longer I wouldn’t be able to fit them in.
I hope you hammie issue is a thing of the past. I skipped a 5k because of a tweaked ankle… well that and heavy rain. But, better safe than sorry. I need to get back on my bike. It was so pretty today but I had other things I had to do. ;( Thanks for linking!
I need to get back outside on my bike! I ordered rechargeable heated gloves ages ago and they still haven’t arrived. Hope your ankle is feeling better.
Only one holiday-themed race for me this year, and it was yesterday…in true Iowa weather. We had rain that became sleet, eventually morphing into snow…all accompanied with 24 mph wind. Fun!
That’s one of those races that’s more fun after the event when you’re enjoying the pictures and remembering what a badass you were for running in that awful weather! Congrats!
Hamstring issues can be so annoying because they feel good then not so good. I hope that it goes away for good!
I have a Christmas themed run later on this month and I can’t wait!
Have fun! Have you picked out your outfit yet?
I have a holiday race this coming races. My last for the year! This is unrelated to fitness but a few months ago I bought this hand held mixer and I kept wondering why it wasn’t working after I put a battery in it. So after sitting on my counter for a few weeks, I tried to figure it out again. Here it called for two batteries and I only had one in there….haha
That sounds like something I would do. LOL
Have fun at your race next weekend!
I hope that nagging issue goes away! I haven’t really figured out my Garmin Fenix even though I’ve had it for more than a year now. I know the basics, but I know it can do so much more! Good luck this week.
I’m sure many of my gadgets can do far more than I realize. 😉
So cool that you got a park bench. A very thoughtful donation that will get much use I’m sure!
We hope so!
I actually have found that taping my hamstrings have made a world of difference! But it took me a while to think of it. I’ve taped very little this year, it’s just been weird, those 15 & 17 mile runs no tape. Oh well. Hope yours goes away sooner than later!
Thank you, that’s a great idea, although a little part of me wonders if it’s my back and sciatic nerve acting up again…
I wondered a bit about sciatica, although I’ve never had that before, but it turns out that doesn’t seem to be my problem. Thankfully. Every body is different. Literally.
[…] Sunday – Running With a Limp and Back on the Bike […]
I love cycling. However, I have never tried indoor bike before. It seems that I need to buy one for some special situation that I cannot go out for cycling. Thanks for sharing.
