It’s hard to believe that I’m only four weeks out from the Grand Tetons Half Marathon, my big race of the season. Even though I have no intentions of racing the thing, it’s going to be epic! I haven’t been to the Tetons since we lived in Utah, and Jackson Hole was an easy day trip. Training is going well, as in I feel strong, but not necessarily fast.
Before moving on to my week of training, I’ll share a little about my visit with my buddy!
Last Sunday, Bill and I went to Arlington to have brunch with our son Daniel and his girlfriend Jess. Pablo was happy to see us and thrilled to perform tricks in exchange for treats. His new thing is that when he sees anyone get a treat out of the container, he sits, lies down, and puts his paw out to shake before you even ask him to perform. He’s so focused on the treat that he just starts doing tricks to get it sooner. It’s the cutest thing!
He especially loves these gingerbread man shaped peanut butter treats my friend Betty got for him. He’s definitely a loved and spoiled pup!
Tuesday morning my friends met me for hill repeats on a hill that’s quite popular with area runners (it’s the same one I always do my repeats on). We started at 5:30 while it was still dark and joined eight other runners from another local running group already on the hill. It was so cool to gaze down the hill from the top and see twelve headlamps at various places looking more like fireflies than runners.
On Wednesday, I met my friends on the W&OD Trail for an early run. It was nice to get out of my neighborhood and to push myself a little more than I have been. Luckily for me, Angela still had tired legs from Ragnar Trail Richmond the previous weekend and didn’t push as hard as usual on the back half. I can’t tell you how nice it is to be back with my girls!
On Saturday, I ran my much anticipated Fiesta 5K. Bill joined me to take pictures at the start and finish line. Here’s just one of the amazing captures he got! I’m hoping to get my recap posted on Thursday, so stay tuned! In the meantime, spoiler alert, Beth (left) and I both won our age groups!
I ran a little over a mile before the race to warm up, and then tacked on a little more when I got home to get six miles in for the day. Can I just say my legs were shot after pushing so hard during the race!
In case you’re wondering why I’m so late getting this posted today, I worked in our yard for about five hours today, but that’s cross-training that will have to wait until next week to be discussed!
And that’s a wrap…

- Thursday – I hope to have my Fiesta 5K recap ready to post!
- Saturday or Sunday – I have a fun throwback recap of the Nike Women’s 8K I ran in DC back in 1989. It’s full of pictures and boy do I look like a youngster! 😀
In addition to what I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts (completed mostly in our home gym) from this past week…
- Questions:
- Do you have a big hill in your community where runners gather for repeats?
- If you have a dog, what are his favorite treats?
- Did you race this weekend?
Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Holly at HoHo Runs and Wendy from Taking The Long Way Home for their Weekly Wrap. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
I’m also linking up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC for her Training Recap linkup. Be sure to check out how Courtney the other great bloggers joining the linkup are doing on their spring marathon and half marathon training.
Oh the yard work! We’re finally getting some spring weather and it’s amazing how much we have to do. But even better is that we have the energy to do it. There’s nothing like warmth and sunshine to perk you up!!
Thanks for linking!
Isn’t that the truth! I think that plays a large part in why I love to run – it gets me outside!
Congrats on winning in your AG! My dog loves busy bones. Although they do not keep her busy for very long. 2 minutes tops!
Thank you!
I’ll have to ask Daniel if he’s gotten Pablo Busy Bones. Thanks for the tip!
Your race is going to be epic! I have not been out there since I was a child either. Look forward to your photos. Have a great week
I can’t wait! 😀
I had to laugh at Pablo’s trick antics! Max has learned (due to our inexperience in dog stuff) that we tend to do all of his trick commands in t he same sequence…so if we ask him to shake, he offers his paw and then immediately rolls over and “prays” (lays his chin down on the floor) before we can even ask him to do anything else. I’d LOVE to know what goes on in their little brains LOL
You just made me realize that I do the same thing. It’s always sit, down, and touch my hand, or handshake! I’ll have to mix it up next time Pablo visits! 😀
Grand Tetons sounds like it will be beautiful! We have a lot of hills in my area – I can’t think of one in particular that’s popular, except maybe a couple of small mountains that have popular running/hiking trails.
Small mountains? You’d probably laugh at our hill! 😀
Well done to you and your friend for placing in your age groups! And well done to Bill for getting that shot – you ladies look amazing and just look at that phenomenal sky!
Thank you all the way around! 🙂
Pablo is SO cute! Congrats on winning your age group at the Fiesta 5K!
Thank you! And about Pablo being cute, I agree, but I know I’m biased! 😀
My big hill is Capitol Hill. It’s great for hill repeats and also just great for keeping me in shape. I typically run up it at least a couple times a week 🙂 Kudos on your AG win this weekend!!
Oh good point, I wish my hill was a little closer so I could work it into my regular runs. I do have a short little hill that I have to run up as I finish my neighborhood runs, but it’s nothing compared to “the” hill. 😉
Fireflies Runners. That should be thing. My Mini will sit, shake, spin, and roll over (all at once) if I sit down in front of her with a treat. Now, I’m trying to train her NOT to do anything until I say so. LOL. It sounds like you had a successful 5k race! Thanks for linking.
Firefly Runners would be a great name for a running group who meets in the evening or super early morning!
It sounds like your dog, like Pablo (and me), is very motived by food! 😉
