This first appeared on Deb Runs on Christmas Eve 2013. I hope you enjoy…
Just for fun, I’m going to take you on a quick tour of our main Christmas tree. I suppose you could say there are a few themes going on here and of course running is one of the big ones!
I worked on this stuffed Santa during my lunch break for weeks as a surprise for Bill for our first tree after we were married…
Remembering the very first Hallmark ornament my parents gave to me my freshman year of college…
Honoring our home state…
Remembering fondly where we spent our first two years of marriage…
And our third year…
Embracing my farm-girl roots…
Eggshell ornament I made the year before we were married…
Another eggshell ornament I made… Yeah, I can be crafty when I want to be!
Reminding us of the beach…
Joseph made this angel for us in preschool…
And Daniel made a candy cane for us when he was in preschool…
And of course one of many Virginia Tech ornaments that eventually found their way to the basement tree…
Remembering why we are celebrating this wonderful holiday…
And possibly my favorite tree trimming tradition involves these two doves that Daniel and I hang together every year. When he was away at college, I’d decorate the tree, but keep these two doves off until he got home so we could hang them together…
Merry Christmas!
- Questions:
- If you have children, where do you put their homemade ornaments, proudly on the front of your tree or do you hide them on the back? ~ I put J and D’s proudly on the front, but I only kept the most special ones.
- Have you set your 2016 fitness goals?
- Did you race this past weekend?
Yes, you are definitely crafty!
No races last weekend, a fun run tomorrow night.

Crafty when I want to be, which isn’t very often these days.
Hope your run was fun!
oh how sweet! Thanks for sharing your Christmas memories. I would put my kids homemade things on the tree for sure.

Thanks! Over the years I definitely had to pick and choose and only keep the cuter homemade decorations or they would have gotten out of control.
I love all of your ornaments and what they mean to you! This is the first year that my daughter has come how with a SLEW of homemade ornaments. She just started preschool this year, so in the past it’s usually been just one ornament, maybe two, maybe actually made by her, maybe not. This year, she came home with SIX. That may not seem like much, but it’s quite the increase! I hang them with the rest of our ornaments, as we have an eclectic collection anyway. I love them because she’s so proud of them!

In twenty years those homemade decorations will mean so much to you! I will admit that only the cuter ones made it into the storage boxes to go on the tree the following year.
Great ornaments! Thanks for sharing, I thought about doing the same thing, I love my tree and all the memories it brings!

Decorating our Christmas trees really is a walk down memory lane, isn’t it?
I got my first running ornament last year from a friend!
I’ve never seen egg she’ll ornaments. Those are unique. You are definitely crafty!
My mom was a first great teacher and one of her students gave her a couple of homemade egg shell ornaments for Christmas one year. I thought they were so cute that I made some for myself years later.
My husband gave me an ornament on our first date. It holds a special spot on our tree. All the ornaments the kids made in preschool are front and center, especially if they include a picture of them. It is so sweet you save the doves for Daniel.
