Last Week’s Newsworthy Happenings
Our son Daniel’s birthday was on Wednesday and we drove down to Arlington to celebrate with him and his girlfriend Jess. We walked about five blocks to the Green Pig Bistro in the 11° (feels like 2°) temps. I feel so metropolitan when we visit our sons because we usually walk to restaurants; however, when it’s that cold I hunker down looking at the sidewalk as I walk and don’t get to enjoy the sights around me.
Once back at their place, Pablo was more than happy to oversee the kitchen activities from his perch on a family room chair. His nose could smell the deliciousness of his pupcake and Daniel’s birthday cake.
Pablo’s patience was running thin and he needed a closer look. I’m sure he was wondering what was taking so long and why Jess was putting her sticks in the cake when he’s not even allowed to bring his sticks inside!
Once Daniel and Jess gave Pablo his pupcake, he scarfed it up in one bite and then ran off to chomp it down in about three more bites.
Don’t Forget to Enter My Kudos Coaster Giveaway
My Kudos coaster giveaway in celebration of my six year blogiversary is still open. A couple of weeks ago I shared step-by-step pictures of how easy it is to put together with a choice of six different background colors. Just hop over to Thursday’s post to enter to win! Don’t put it off, the giveaway ends on Wednesday night.
Injury Update
I am anxiously awaiting my first appointment with my physical therapist on Wednesday, the first appointment that I could get with Craig, the PT who got Bill rehabbed back from spinal surgery to running many more marathons before his knee got cranky.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Still no running except for running back to my car from the gym because I forgot something. My right foot went numb and I was not happy!
Biking
Surprisingly, riding on my spin bike (affiliate link) is becoming more fun. It doesn’t hurt that I can watch TV while I’m on there, but for whatever reason, indoor biking is nowhere nearly as painful as running on my treadmill (affiliate link) when I’m not injured.
Strength Training
I got in my usual three sessions and plan to make sure the new exercises I’m adding are not contraindicated for my sciatica. I’ve got a list of questions to ask Craig during our first session.
Yoga
Despite hoping to add in some of my old yoga routines this past week, it didn’t happen and that’s all on me. I had time, but opted for the shorter routines.
Last Week on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – We Have a Plan!
- Thursday – Celebrating my Blogiversary with a Kudos Coaster Giveaway
- Friday – Catching up over Coffee: Succulents, Marathon Pint Glasses, and a Giveway
Looking ahead to this coming week…
- Our annual Italian dinner party is this coming Saturday night and that will take up a lot of my free time as I make preparations. If time permits, I’ll start another Spotlight on Local Athletes post. If I’m really efficient with my time, I may even get it published.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you live in a city, the suburbs, or out in the country? ~ I grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere and now live in the suburbs west of our nation’s capital.
- When’s your birthday? Do you like funfetti cake?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!

Happy Birthday to your son! I love the look of his birthday cake and that pupcake for Pablo was so cute!
I’m glad that riding on your spin bike is going well. Spinning is one of my favorite activities!
I’ve yet to look for a spin class video. Instead, I just do pickups while riding at an otherwise steady pace. I’m sure I would enjoy the energy of the group in a class.
hope your son had a great birthday. I have heard of green pig but not been yet. It’s close to me. I do love funfetti cake too 🙂 Have not had it in a while though. Have a great week

The cake was from Sprinkles in Georgetown. It was beyond delicious! 😀
Happy birthday to your son! That cake is adorable – I don’t blame the pup for wanting to gobble it up 🙂 I grew up on a small farm in the country and now live in a small town. Being in the city makes me feel like a fish out of water, but the energy there is exciting too! The Fish n’ Chips on their menu sounds tasty!
I agree, I love the energy of huge city like Chicago!
Pupcake! LOL! I”ll have to remember that for Cocoa’s birthday next month!
I agree with you that the indoor bike is way less painful than the TM. Maybe because we aren’t pushing as hard? Anyways, I hope you get to start running again soon. Hang in there!
Jess bought Daniel’s cake at Sprinkles in Georgetown and they also sell pupcakes. Isn’t that the best?
I’ve only ever known suburbia. I would LOVE to live someplace more walkable! The mall when I lived in Burlington, VT (outdoor mall) was a lot of fun, but obviously not so much in winter.
I always say that even a little bit of yoga is better than no yoga at all!
Yes, to even a little bit of yoga being beneficial!
Well, Max gets his very own ice cream cone on his birthdays LOL His “beard” gets to be quite an icky sticky mess from it, though. I’m enjoying my elliptical for the same reason as you are enjoying your spin bike…access to a television!
Awww, lucky Max! I plan to walk Pablo to our local Starbucks for a Puppuccino when he’s here on a warm day. I’m sure he’ll love it! 🙂
OK, I think my son lives about a block from that restaurant. I guess it’s where the cool kids live these days? Looks like the coming week could be good for running – I hope you PT appointment leaves you with a good plan!
I’ve heard other moms say that all the cool kids must live in that area. LOL
Hope you were able to enjoy our spring-like days!
Happy
Birthday to your son! Funfetti cakes are yummy.
On behalf of Daniel, thanks! And I agree, Funfetti cakes are yummy!
I just made a birthday cake for my dad that was really good. Devils Food cake with coconut and pecan frosting. I’d never used that kind of frosting before, and was happily surprised at how good it was! I bought a spin bike last year to cross train when my hamstrings were sore. Found out that didn’t help at all! I hope to get back to using it one of these days.

Bummer that biking didn’t help with your hamstring rehab. Here’s hoping you can find time to start using your spin bike soon!
November baby – like you and many of the Wrappers. We are simply the best. While I live in the city now, I grew up in the NYC suburbs. I never really saw myself living in the city, but then living in Osaka got me used to urban comforts. I now get frustrated in suburban car land because I really don’t like driving.
Glad bike has been good to you. And yay, all the Pablo pics

There can never be too many Pablo pictures! 😉
OMG love Pablo!!! That is the best and that cake looks delicious. Glad you were able to get some bike mileage in and I really enjoy my rides inside but the TM, not so much, so I totally get it. Hope you can get back to running soon…

Thanks, Allie!
I enjoyed seeing pictures of your granddog. He is such a cutie! And he got his own pupcake! Sorry to hear you are still not running. My injury is getting worse. I am going to see a kinesiologist who is also an orthopedic surgeon and an Ironman. Now I have weakness in my leg when I run and it feels like my knee is going to buckle. Ugh! I can still do the elliptical, though, so that is what I have been doing.

Oh no, Laurie, I’m so sorry to hear that your hip/leg are getting worse. You describe the very questions my PT asked me today. He asked if my leg was getting weaker and if it ever felt like my leg was going to give out or my knee might buckle. Hope you can get some answers soon! As for me, today was my first PT appointment and my therapist did dry needling with electrical stimulation. He also confirmed that the exercises and stretches I’m doing are the right ones so at least I haven’t been making it worse. At least there’s that!
Pablo’s facial expressions and his pupcake are the best things I have seen on the internet this week! My day has been made! PS: Best of luck with your PT on Wednesday. Sending lots of good vibes.
Awww Shathiso, I’m so happy Pablo made your day! 😀
Thanks for the good vibes. PT went well and I’m happy to be on the right track to getting better!
