Ten years ago today, Bill and I bought our third, and we say final house. We have no plans to move; we’ve acquired too much crap to ever move again we like it here that much! We burned a lot of calories over the three or four days that we moved, but never missed a run! We moved much of the smaller stuff ourselves (see trailer behind my 4Runner), but we hired a moving company to move the furniture. We probably spent at least a day moving just the kids’ sports equipment; and probably another day moving Bill’s and my running shoes! 😉
We loved our old neighborhood, but we found a house just a mile away that has the most amazing back yard with a creek! It’s our little bit of country in suburbia (my perfect combination), and has provided us with hours of entertainment watching the wildlife.
For a runner, what’s not to love about our lot? You step off of our property and onto a community trail that winds 28 miles through our neighborhood. Bill was standing on the corner of our deck when he took this picture of me standing on the trail.
After running on our community trail for 1.5 miles, you come to the W&OD Trail that you hear me talk about all of the time. It’s a 45-mile long regional park that just happens to be a pedestrian and horse trail! There really is no excuse for me not to run forever!
- Questions:
- How long have you lived in your current home?
- Do you live in the city, country, or suburbia?
- If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
Fantastic!
We will be going on six years in our current home, in November.
Technically, we are rural, but it’s developing into outer suburbia (still have the cows, but the internet connection is better).
I would love to live in NYC or Chicago. I love the hustle and bustle of major city, as well as getting to walk everywhere, and having access to all the museums, shops, theater, etc.
Sounds like the best of both worlds to me! Cows and internet! What more could you ask for? AND I am being totally serious. I love cows!
So awesome that you have the W&OD trail so close by! We have been in our house five years this summer, and I absolutely DREAD the thought of moving. We bought the house before our daughters were born, and they have multiplied the amount of stuff we own by a ridiculous amount!
The first time we moved after having kids we were shocked at how much more stuff we had accumulated.
That’s so nice that you have the trail and are close to the W&OD!!! I would love to have that!
It’s pretty sweet!
Hi! We’ve been in our place 6 years, and we live in a nice blend of suburbia and lake-living. If we could live anywhere, right now it would be Paris….a wonderful mix of culture, city-living, and beauty. 🙂
It would be a long commute from Paris on Saturday mornings for you to come run with the Cruisers! 😉
We’ve moved 3 times in 4 years! Hoping this is our last… Or 2nd to last at least!
Emma @ a mom runs this town
Wow! That’s a lot of moves! On the up side, I bet you were careful not to accumulate a lot of stuff!
As of Monday we will have been in our house for one year! This is our first home, as the one we lived in after we were married was rented (on the Tech Dairy farm). I live in a rural area and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I grew up in a neighborhood and I loved it, but I’m happy where I live now. We live in a very small neighborhood surrounded by farmland… kind of my little piece of suburbia in the country, I guess? 🙂
I don’t know where I would want to live if I could live anywhere in the world. I haven’t traveled enough. I’m perfectly happy with Virginia, though!
We just moved to a new apartment in Glover Park. We picked it specifically because of it’s proximity to the Glover Park/Battery Kemble trails and Rock Creek Park. It’s like my little oasis in the city =).
I love running through Rock Creek Park! I need to get my friend Miles to organize a run from Bethesda to DC and meet you along the way!
