Since Bill and I were in Blacksurg for the game, we met Meagan for a long run this morning. When we got to the trail parking area, we noticed a bridge under construction for what we think is part of the Huckleberry Trail extension to the south. Of course I may be spreading rumors, but since you read it on the web, it must be true, right?
The three of us took off in the fog which quickly dissipated leaving behind cool, but humid weather for our run. Bill tried my long run fartleks this morning and captured some pictures of Meagan and me running. I like this first one because it shows the beauty of the trail.
And then of course the artsy side of Bill came out, and he got this really cool shot of us!
Immediately after our run, we rushed back to the hotel and I took the fastest shower on record (for me). We were at our tailgate by 10:15 collecting our game tickets that we had almost forgotten… Seriously? Yes, seriously!
Long story, but I’ll make it short… Two of our tailgate regular couples weren’t able to make it to the game. Add to that the horrible weather forecast and I decided that we wouldn’t be able to tailgate. Standing outside for three hours with no tent, no generator, in the pouring rain and wind… Not my idea of a fun morning. But then the forecast changed at the last minute and the rain looked like it was going to hold off until game time, so we decided to go for it! Except I’d brought no food and we didn’t have time to go to the store. Enter: Samantha and Jessica! They ran to Kroger and bought veggies, chicken, chips, beer, etc. and basically keep me from looking like a loser! Thank you Samantha and Jessica!
Today was Military Appreciation Day and corps of cadet alumni were invited to attend the opening ceremonies. Hokies serving around the world were featured on the scoreboard various times during the game. I snapped this picture just as the Skipper was being fired. As soon as the Skipper is fired before the game, it is rolled to the practice field and is fired every time the Hokies score.
The game started at noon, and just for fun I took a screen shot of my Weather Bug app at 1:15 as the rain was really starting to move in.
By half time it was raining very hard and I may or may not have found shelter on one of the ramps to watch part of the game via the scoreboard!
After a hard fought game that went into triple overtime, my Hokies finally pulled out a win and we got our 700th victory, putting us with only 15 other FBS schools to accomplish this!
The rain moved out of the area right after the game was over and we were treated to a beautiful sunset; and a Victoria’s filet!
- Questions:
- What did you do today?
- What was the weather like where you live today?
- When was the last time you ate at a place like Outback?
Glad you got to see a winning game even if it rained! And that you got to run with Meagan before the rain.
It was a pretty great day, despite the rain!
I love that “artsy” shot Bill got of us! I totally thought he was taking a picture of our shoes, haha. I’m glad the rain held off long enough to let y’all tailgate some. It rained so much during the game, but it wouldn’t be Blacksburg without at least one torrential downpour during a game, right? The new scoreboard is so awesome!
I’m not a big Outback fan, except for that brown bread. When we go out for steak, Roadhouse is my favorite.
