As 2014 draws to an end, I’ve put together my running/racing year in pictures…
My goal this year was to run a race each month, but by the time I set my goals, the local January races that I was interested in running were already filled to capacity. January ended up being the only month that I didn’t race, but it was a milestone month, none the less.
In January, I was invited by my Cruisers friend Amanda to run with our local MRTT (Moms RUN This Town) chapter for the first time. An hour into our run, we swung back by the parking lot and picked up the Cruisers for part-two of our run.
In February I joined my Cruiser buddy and long time partner-in-crime, Beth, to run the Run Your Heart Out 5K at South Lakes High School in Reston, VA…
Bill, Beth, and I returned to Reston and South Lakes High School in March to run in the Reston 10 Miler, a race I hadn’t run in since 2001…
April found Bill and me running in two races. First up was our very first trail race, EX2Adventures Spring Backyard Burn Ten Mile Trail Run in Fountainhead Park in Fairfax, VA.
And second was the first annual Loudoun Half Marathon; where we ran with our Cruiser friend Jerome…
I served as a race ambassador for the first time in June at the Fit Foodie 5K in Fairfax. It was a weekend long runner and foodie’s dream come true.
Bill and I started July Forth off with a bang by running in the Firecracker 5K at Reston Town Center with our MRTT friends and their families (not pictured)…
August found us running through the beautiful countryside of Loudoun County, Virginia in the Leesburg 20K. The post-race activities seemed like a runners’ reunion to me because I saw so many runner friends!
September took Bill and me slightly out of our comfort zone, and into a van with five other runners and a driver for the weekend for our first Ragnar Relay. I finished the weekend asking when I could do it again!
In October, and on a very rainy day, Bill and I met our friends Meagan and Barry for the Hokie Half Marathon in Blacksburg, VA…
November found me running my first race dressed as a pilgrim in the Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 5K. I ran a great race, so perhaps there will be more costumed races in my future!
December found my MRTT friends and I back at Reston Town Center for the Run With Santa 5K, and just an amazingly fun day of racing!
- Questions:
- How many races did you run in 2014?
- Have you planned your 2015 racing schedule?
- Have you finalized your fitness goals for 2015?
I love the August race finish line picture! You’re flying!

Thanks, Debbie; that was a great race for me, and I PR’ed. I averaged an 8:30 pace, won my age group, and felt great!
Awesome recap and so great to connect with you so many times this year. I ended up with 16 races for the year! Haven’t really set any goals for 2015 yet except to get healthy…going on 4 1/2 weeks now of being sick. My goal is to get rid of these nasty germs! Happy New year!

It was great to finally meet you this year, and “running” four races together (Reston 10 Miler, Fit Foodie 5K, Firecracker 5K, and Leesburg 20K). I have a separate post about my blogger meet-ups that I’m posting in a day or two. Stay tuned! 🙂
Hope you feel better quickly!
I think doing Ragnar would be incredible! A great years in pictures and with good friends. I ended up with 45 races this year…including 17 half marathons…and I’m tired! I think 2015 may be the year of sleep. Ha.

45 races – holy moly, that’s a lot! Congrats on your great racing year! You should definitely consider running Ragnar sometime.
You’ve had a great running year indeed! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you and I hope we actually “run” into each other sometime this year.

I think I’m adding “Run With Deborah” as one of my 2015 goals!
Lovely post – glad we were able to meet at the Leesburg 20K and “introduced” via the Firecracker 5K 🙂 I ended up with 25 this year. Next year I would like to take a stab at a trail race.

Thanks, Jennifer! Try the Backyard Burn Series. They do a nice job with their trail races, and I’m hoping to run at least one this year.
Love all your pictures. I also love my MRTT group! Awesome ladies! I started running in August of this year. Since then I have run 3 5ks, 2 10ks, a 13.1, and I have my final 10k on Wednesday. 🙂

Thank you, Emily! What a great start to your running career!
Pretty full year of racing! What’s next for 2015? I did a lot of racing in 2014 as well (18 total). I’m planning to back off a bit, and spend this spring focusing on the trail series I signed up for.

One of my 2015 goals will be to run at Pandapas Pond with you!
I think my favorite pic is of you crossing the finish line in the 20K. Awesome happy, healthy pics!
