It’s been a long time coming, but our basement remodel is complete! Gary, our awesome general contractor, and his crew started tearing down walls in the gym on September 3rd, and the last step in the process was the gym floor getting installed on December 27.
A special thank you goes to my clients for putting up with the mess during the process. We got lucky and had some great fall weather for getting many of our workouts completed outside and away from the dust.

- Questions:
- Have you
sufferedlived through any major remodels? - If so, what was your secret for surviving?
- Who wants to come join me for a workout in the new gym?
It looks GREAT!! Moving the walls back makes it look HUGE.
My mother is always doing major remodeling projects on our house. The biggest one was our kitchen – we tore down two walls to create a bar/counter area into our dining room and living room. I don’t remember much because I was little, but to this day we still have outlets that don’t work. HA.
Right now they are working on redoing the siding and painting our house.
Thanks! I was surprised at how much more space it gave us, too.
My parents were always remodeling their kitchen, and then doing additions. I think I get it from them!
Looks awesome!
Thanks, and thanks for stopping by my blog!
So glad I could see this in person!! It looks SO good! 🙂
Now you just need to stop back by for a glass of wine!
It looks fabulous! I want to come over and work out with you and then enjoy a drink at the Hokie Bar! The Hokie Stone looks fabulous!
Thanks! I could make a Toasted Almond for you!
That looks AMAZING! I absolutely love the whole thing!
The only major remodel we’ve suffered through wasn’t by choice. We had major rainstorms which led to the “great flood of 2010”. Our finished basement flooded completely (about 8-10 inches deep) and we were evacuated for two days by the National Guard for fear of the dam breaking in the next town over leading the dam in our town to break. We had to completely rip out the carpeting, half the walls and a good amount of items went straight in the trash. I definitely learned a lot about fixing a house though. With the help of one friend, we put up all our own drywall, did all the sealing, etc. and then repainted everything. I’m not sure what our secret for survival was…
I’d love to work out in your new gym! Be there in like 8 hours. LOL
Thanks so much! See you at 5 AM. 😉
YOU HAVE THE BEST HOME GYM EVER!
I want to come over RIGHT NOW!
I’m so happy for you! 🙂
Head east pronto and we’ll workout together!
Amazing remodel!! So jealous of the gym!! We remodeled a forclosure before we moved into it…I can’t imagine having to do it while living there!! Caused a lot of stress in our house!
Thanks! Since this was all in the basement, it wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if I didn’t train clients there.
Wow- this looks absolutely amazing, Deb!! I bet it’s fun to workout in such an inviting space; your clients must love it!
I would love to come workout there, and then visit the juice bar 🙂
Congratulations!
Thank you! I think my clients like it best when they’re “leaving” and happy to have their workout behind them! 😉
Deb your basement remodel looks amazing!! You know I especially love the new detailing on the bar 🙂 It looks awesome and I know how good it feels to have that project done. When I was in middle school we had our kitchen redone, as well as an addition put on the back of the house (adding a master bedroom on the main floor). We had a very basic kitchen set up in our living room with a table, two chairs, the fridge, and a microwave. We had to eat out for nearly five months. That was fun for the first week, and then I was sick of it. I was so happy when that remodel was done!
Count me in for a workout in your new gym! 🙂
Workout first and then a Hokie cocktail at the bar. I even know to make yours a non-tequila drink!
I have no idea what you did with the lighting – but the new space looks so big and bright! Next time I swing through the DC area, I’m coming for a visit – and a workout!! 🙂 [I want to try out that trampoline… =)]
We had two walls in the gym pushed back so the space is bigger. Also, Bill took the after shots with his wide-angle lens and lighting umbrellas, and that changes the way those photos look compared to the before pictures.
HaHaHa!!! That trampoline bit the dust and got thrown away, but I must say that one of my young “tween” clients love running in place and general bouncing around on it!
[…] that the dust from my gym renovation has settled, I picked up a Lifecycle spin bike from our local Leisure Fitness. Yesterday I put […]
Wow! I am impressed! Great job!
Thanks, we love it!
