It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run!

Thanks to a conversation I had with one of my MRTT running besties, Erin, yesterday morning, I immediately decided to write about the Five Things I Love About Being An Older Runner.
1. I’ve met so many amazing runners over the years that every race is like attending a runner’s reunion.
2. I’m not expected to PR at every race, but when I do, it’s magical!
3. I have years of running and life experiences to share with my running friends, whether they want to hear them or not.
4. Since I’m over 50, I don’t give a crap about what others think, and if I need to stop behind a bush, spit, or blow a snot-rocket, I will!
5. Every year I’m getting a little bit closer to being that adorable little-old-lady waddling over the finish line, and winning her age group because she’s the only one in it.
- Questions:
- What do you look forward to as you get older?
- What are your fun plans for the weekend? ~ I’m going to see the Nats play on Sunday!
- Who’s racing this weekend?
I’d love to be able to say some of the same things, so thanks for sharing and giving me new goals. One of which is we HAVE to run together! 🙂 I’ve cared less and less what others thought as I get older – I just don’t have time/energy to worry about it. I have enough problems with what I think of me!
Yes, we do HAVE to run together. I just added that to my things to do before the end of 2014!
Well, I know that I actually run stronger now than I did when I compete way back in college!!!
I agree! For me, it has to do A LOT with core strength, and better training.
amazing!
🙂
Interesting things to think about instead of all the reasons why I don’t want to get older-LOL
Glad I could put a positive spin on it for you! 🙂
You are AMAZING!!!
Where’s the blushing face emoji when I need it?
You are awesome Deb! I’ve become a better runner since college, so I look forward to what will happen with time!
Thank you, Jenny! Keep training hard!
I will say I’ve become a better runner as time has passed. Since turning 40 I’m inching toward actually placing in age groups! 🙂
Good things come to those who wait! 🙂
Hahaa, this is my mom! You are not alone, she is an older runner too!
Give your mom a high-five from me! 🙂
Give your mom a high-five from me! 🙂
First of all you are far from an old runner, glad you put “older” 🙂 I hope that I am as in shape and active as you are. You are amazing runner!
Thanks, Sue! I’m “older,” and definitely not old! 🙂
Ha! I loved this post. You rock 🙂 I can’t wait to be the old lady crossing the finish line either 🙂
🙂
Awe, this is so sweet and I hope to be like you when I am your age! Also, I saw on IG that you hurt your foot and I hope you feel better asap! Keep icing it!
Thanks, Amy! I think/hope my foot will be okay. I’m erring on the side of caution!
Love it! I am pushing 50 so you are giving me a lot to look forward to! My daughter and I just finished our summer series we ran over the summer and damn those old ladies are cute! and out in this heat! More power to them!
So happy that I can make it less scary for you! 🙂
if i am half as amazing of a runner as you…um, pretty much EVER, i’d be really really grateful. and you win your age group because you are amazing – not because you are the only one in it. you could easily win almost any age group! 🙂
You are way too kind, Courtney. Thank you!
#5 just made me shake my head and smile! You crack me up.
I raced – it was wonderful.
It’s never occurred to me to think about what I’m looking forward to about being older. I hadn’t thought about it! To be fair, I don’t think about awful things about it either. Mostly I just try to get through the day! 🙂
Glad I made you smile! 🙂
Can’t wait to pop over and check out your race recap! So glad it was wonderful!
Well you may be older (as in you’re older than me) but you’re not old! I read somewhere that runners hit their peak in their middle age years. Not sure if it just applied to men, as all I can remember was that the article was about why guys in their 40’s and 50’s beat these hot shot high schoolers in road races. With that being said I hope to have year of running ahead of me 🙂
Here’s to lots of running years ahead of both of us! 🙂
Love this! There are a lot of “older” women runners around here (and I’m not sure I’d count you in that group since I’m not too far from 50 myself), but they are all inspiring.
Thank you! Never count someone in as older if they’re not much older than you! 🙂
