It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello!
I love music, but never seem to know the name or artist of my new favorite song. That’s because I’m spoiled… My son Daniel makes CD’s for me of songs he thinks I’d like, and his mixes are always perfect.
Yesterday morning I sent Daniel an email begging for help, and by lunchtime he had sent nine suggestions (complete with YouTube links) from songs on recent CD’s he’d made for me. What a guy!
I present Daniel and Deb’s favorite workout songs:
1. Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
2. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons
3. Gold On The Ceiling by The Black Keys
4. Little Talks by Of Monsters And Men
5. Dead and Gone by The Black Keys
Bonus: Can’t Stop by The Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Questions:
- Do you listen to music when you workout?
- What type of music do you enjoy?
- Who’s racing this weekend?
I love that Daniel is able to help you with this. I use the Shazaam app all the time to figure out who sings what. Good list!
I love Shazam and use it, too, when I hear something I like on TV or the radio. Sometimes I’ll pass that info on to Daniel so he can add that song to our next CD.
I used to like that Can’t hold us song but I think I over played it. I still really like the Little Talks song. I have overplayed that one as well but for some reason I am not that sick of that one.

I tend to like ritual, and rarely get tired of songs. But then, I don’t listen to music when I run, so I’m not listening to my play list as often as some runners.
Can’t Hold Us is also on my top 5. That song works wonders to me!

#1 and #2 are two of my absolute FAVE workout songs. I have all of them on my list though. He has good taste!

So do you! 😉
Great songs. I don’t listen to music when I run, but I need to put together a playlist of music for lifting weights. That might actually motivate me to do it LOL.

I don’t listen to music when I run, either. I mostly listen to it when I’m lifting or I’m in my car.
Lots of people like that Macklemore song, may have to listen to it.

It really hit my radar at a wedding reception last year, and I’ve loved it every since. Check it out!
The Black Keys are awesome, but I don’t have much of their music on my fitness playlists. I def jam out to them in my car though. And Macklemore is so hot right now. That song is on my running playlist for sure.
Have a great weekend!!!

Radioactive is definitely one to add.
I love your #2 Radioactive by Imagine Dragons! One of my fave song

The video is crazy!
That’s awesome your son creates playlist for you! I’m loving these tunes! I’ll definitely have to listen to them to pump up for my marathon on Sunday!
Awesome! Good luck at Rock ‘N’ Roll Denver on Sunday!
Thanks!
Love all those songs! I definitely tend to listen to Top 40 songs, especially ones with a strong beat.

Me, too; except I could listen to RHCP all day!
All great picks!! I LOVE the Black Keys when I am running!

Thanks! I don’t listen to music when I run, but do like these tunes when I’m driving.
Those are good kickass songs. When I saw Macklemore, I thought maybe it was going to be Thrift Shop. My MP3 is ancient and has mostly ELO and Paul McCartney and Wings tunes on it. Good for chilling, not for running.
I get motivated by music, though. Alien Ant Farm, Franz Ferdinand and Metallica are good for that.
I’ll just be racing (by car) to Lenoir for a soccer match, then to find a disc golf course, then to find some barbecue. I’ll need all the kickass music I can get!

Good luck at your soccer match, and I hope you find a challenging disc golf course so you can get a round in. Have a great weekend!
Ooooo… I really do need to add some RHCP to my playlist. Thank you for that, haha.

I love the RHCP, too, and have pretty much all of their music even going way back.
My favorite tune to fast walk to is the Village People, YMCA. Of course you have to be at least 50 I think to remember that one.
YMCA is a favorite song for Miles’ and my friend Paul to blast on his bicycle speakers when he accompanies us on a run, and we’ve been known to do the arm gestures during our run!
Black Keys <3 <3 there's not a song of there's I don't like! Good picks!

Check them out. Perhaps you’ll enjoy them as well!
I pretty much never listen to music anymore when running, but these are all great tunes! I do enjoy listening to songs like the ones you listed while driving somewhere for a run or race. Get’s me pumped up and ready to go! I’m still undecided on music for MCM – which I would probably use when I run across the bridge around mile 20 (is it the 14th street bridge?? I can’t keep the bridges straight!). But I probably won’t end up bringing music, since I pretty much didn’t listen to it at all during training.

Yes, it’s the 14th Street Bridge, and it used to be later in the course. The goal was to get across the 14th Street Bridge before the sag-wagon came along and picked you up! 🙂
