If cooking counted as a workout, I would have been an over achiever last week! But, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a good multitasker, and always let other things go when I’m hyper-focusing on something. I know – not a good trait to have…
Monday
I had a busy work day on Monday with lots of clients who wanted to get their workouts in before the long holiday weekend, and I managed to get a really good strength training session of my own in between clients. Boom – great start to my week!
Tuesday
No one from my running group was able to meet me on Tuesday morning, so I headed out by myself and decided to push it on the loop that I’ve been running for years. I ran 6.38 miles at a 8:50 pace. While running, I mentally planned my hour-by-hour schedule for the next few days.
Wednesday
As I mentioned in my race recap, I met my MRTT friends on Wednesday morning for 6.05 miles in the pouring rain. We ran at a 9:33 pace, and when we finished, we were so soggy that we hopped in our cars, and took off for home. We didn’t want to ruin our phones by getting them wet while taking a picture, soooooooo……… since there’s not picture, did we really meet for a run?
After my run, I only had one client to train, before starting my marathon cooking day.
Thursday
Following our family tradition, I ran in the Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 5K on Thursday morning. This year I decided to race the course just to see how I could do, despite the fact that I was wearing a pilgrim costume! My official race results were 24:23 (7:51 pace), and won my age group. My Garmin makes it appear like I pulled a Rosie Ruiz!
Friday
Rest, unless you count the millions of trips I made up and down the stairs carrying boxes of Christmas decorations as exercise...
Saturday
I didn’t get to bed until after midnight after watching Friday evening’s Virginia Tech football game against our instate rival UVA in the Commonwealth Cup. Despite just over 5 hours of sleep, I couldn’t wait to get up and run with my buddies. We ran 8.04 miles at a 9:20 pace; and when I got home, I started my marathon Christmas decorating day.
Sunday
Rest, and continued Christmas decorating
Total weekly workouts:
Running – 23.57 miles
Lifting – 1 hours
- Questions:
- Were you able to keep up your workouts over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend?
- Did you travel or stay home?
- Who raced on Thursday or over the weekend?
love that you dressed up for your turkey trot and that you won your age group! I’m anxious to get our tree but won’t be able to until next weekend because we will be traveling.

I’m hoping to get my race recap posted tomorrow, and it will be complete with lots of pilgrim and turkey runner pictures!
Wow that’s a fast 5k friend! I would totally die if I ever ran that fast. Congrats! Looks like you had a busy, fun week.

Thanks! It was a fun week, and this week I’m helping my mom decorate and shop so it’s another fun week!
Any chance you’re running in the Run With Santa 5K at Reston Town Center on Sunday?
Workouts during Thanksgiving week was hard for me, too! Thankfully my sister signed us up for the Alexandria turkey trot 🙂

Hope you had fun at your turkey trot!
I love the Pilgrim costume. We traveled for the holiday. It’s easier for the two of us to drive to MA than the rest of the family drive to RI.

Thanks! Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving!
Great job in a Pilgrim Costume. I ran a 5k on Saturday and was first my in AG. My time was not nearly as good as yours…maybe I should have dressed as a pilgrim!!

Yes, dress as a pilgrim next time! Well, it might look kind of funny at a New Year’s race! 😉 And congrats on your AG win!
We stayed in the area and had Thanksgiving at a friends house. My workouts were going great until I came down with a 104 fever the day after Thanksgiving. I’ve been down for the count since then 🙁

Hope you’re feeling better, Sue!
Congrats on a great race and even better costume 🙂
And I definitely think decorating and cooking has to count as some form of exercise- onyour feet, up and down stairs, carrying heavy items, and lots of squats!

Thanks, Abby!
Congrats on your 5K finish! I don’t think they’ll strip you of your title 🙂 Do you normally wear your watch on your left or right wrist? I think I’ve noticed it on both wrists in recent posts! Carrying Christmas boxes totally counts as a work out – that’s hard work right there!

As a leftie, I always wear my watch on my right wrist. It’s much easier for me to start and stop, etc. with my left hand.
