It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week, the DC Trifecta chose Spring! as the theme…..
“Spring has sprung, the grass has ris.
I wonder where the birdie is?
The bird is on the wing they say,
But that’s absurd!
I thought the wing was on the bird!”
~Anonymous
Today is the first day of spring, and this snow lover couldn’t be more excited. Well… except that it’s spring and it’s snowing. Even I am done, finished, over it; and ready to enjoy warmer days, working in my garden, watching Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird return to their bird house, and running in shorts and a tank top.
Despite Mother Nature’s early April Fool’s joke, we all know that spring really is just around the corner, and here are some of the signs this farmer girl is noticing that say it’s so:
1. A couple of weeks ago while Bill and I were shoveling the driveway, we saw a robin in our front yard pulling and tugging until he got a worm out of the nearly frozen ground.
2. We’ve recently been seeing our pet groundhog who has come out of hibernation, and has been roaming around on our deck and in our back yard. We fondly call him Fat Bastard, but he’s not looking so fat right now. He’s still up to his dastardly tricks of digging holes in our yard and leaving muddy footprints on the deck, so the last name still fits.
3. Yesterday morning while looking out my kitchen window I noticed that there was a glimmer of green on our weeping willow tree. I walked down for a closer view and could see medium sized buds getting closer to exploding with long green flowing leaves.
- Questions:
- How is spring coming along in your neck of the woods?
- What’s your favorite season?
- Are you racing this weekend?
Fat Bastard….I love it!

I’ve never run the Shamrock Marathon or Half. I say go for it, and make it a fun weekend. Just listen to your body and slow down or take a quick walk break if necessary.
Actually Spring is coming along quite nicely here. We usually don’t get much of one and move straight from Winter to Summer. We’ve had so much rain! This is a rest week for me, so no races. I hope you’ll get warm weather soon.
I really dislike it when we jump right from winter to summer. Fingers are crossed for a beautiful spring!
Baseball, birds, and warmer weather make me happy. Snow in March and digging groundhogs do not. I love your nickname for your little visitor!

HaHa – thanks!
We had snow yesterday, and rain today. But I guess rain is very spring-like. I am definitely done with winter and ready for spring! My favorite season is fall, but spring is a close second.

Thanks! Hope your weekend was great, too!
I can’t believe it snowed the first day of spring in Philadelphia as well. I don’t care though because today I was relaxing at the beach I Florida. It’ll be all gone by the time I get home.

That’s a great place to be when it’s snowing back home on the first day of spring! Smart girl!
It has been nearly overnight that Spring has hit us here in the South. All over our great city trees and flowers are blooming and the birds are so loud. The Mr. and I often joke that it is like Disney’s Snow White around here because all the birds and animals are out and about.

I’ve noticed on my last couple of runs how much more I’m hearing the birds singing! Our bluebirds have moved back into their birdhouse, and my husband has his tripod with his long lens set up on our kitchen counter so he can take pictures of them. They’re going to take a restraining order out of him for invading their privacy!
Fat Bastard! Ha! That made me laugh out loud…
We are spending a few days in Phoenix over spring break and it’s beautiful down here. It’s been fabulous in Flagstaff, too. There are buds on the trees and plants are poking their way up through the ground, too.

I hope you’re having a wonderful and well deserved spring break!
Haha Fat Bastard, too funny and hilarious name. I’ve never seen a groundhog that was not at the zoo.

Come visit me and you can see groundhogs, foxes, squirrels, racoons, deer, ducks, and blue heron at any given time in my back yard. I even saw a coyote once! It’s a regular zoo out there!
I love weeping willow trees, but they aren’t common where we live. And funny about the groundhog! I’ve never seen one in real life!
We’ve been in the mountains for the last 10 days and it’s full on spring here! However at home it snowed a lot yesterday and we’re supposed to get more this week!

It sounds beautiful there in the mountains. Hope you can stay a while!
Spring is NOT coming along! HAHA!
We had a big snow come through Saturday morning when we started Carry The Fallen, which then turned into some sun but then Sunday and today are SO cold and blustery! I’m over it, Mother Nature!

The sad thing is I went to Texas over the weekend and it was not even remotely like spring while here in Kansas it was gorgeous. Should have done a race at home:)

Bummer that the weather didn’t cooperate; especially since I’m sure you were looking for a warm getaway when you signed up for the race.
