Happy Mother’s Day to all my running mama friends! And in honor of the occasion, I thought you’d love the picture Don’s Johns tweeted this morning!
My Mother’s Day has been splendid so far! Daniel came over to spend the day, and we FaceTimed with Joseph and Julie in Chicago earlier this afternoon. Daniel picked up filet mignon and asparagus from Wegman’s that we’re going to make for dinner.
As I mentioned on Thursday, it took a few days for me to get moving after last weekend’s super fun Ragnar Trail weekend. I didn’t feel too badly because it seemed my other teammates were taking a few days rest as well, and while texting back and forth, Megan said, “The struggle is real this week.” As long as I’m not the only one, I’m good!
- Monday
- Rest
Between rain storms Tuesday afternoon I headed to my favorite local nursery to pick up flowers (annuals) to plant in the pots on my deck. Shortly after arriving home and unloading my car, it started raining again so I called it a day.
- Tuesday
- Rest
After determining that I had rested enough, I decided that Wednesday was the day to get back into the swing of things. After lunch, I headed outside to plant my flowers and just like that, I got my mojo back.
After dinner, and while waiting for Bill to get home from his trip to Austin, I headed to the basement to lift and do some yoga. It felt great, but let me tell you, after skipping lifting on Friday and Monday, the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) was real on Thursday evening into Friday morning!
- Wednesday
- Strength Training – 1 hour
- Rodney Yee’s Complete Yoga For Beginners (affiliate link) – Yoga For Flexibility
- Teeter Hang Ups (affiliate link) Inversion – 15 minutes
- Gardening – 3 hours
Thursday morning I met my running buddies on the trail for a run. We decided to keep it at a steady paced run rather than running at tempo. Even though only two of us had run Ragnar, our other two friends were happy to let us set the pace.
- Thursday
- Easy Pace Run – 5 miles at 9:16 pace
- Rodney Yee’s Intermediate Yoga (affiliate link) Sun Salutations
- Teeter Inversion – 15 minutes
- Friday
- Strength Training – 1 hour
- Teeter Inversion – 15 minutes
- Rodney Yee’s Yoga Conditioning For Athletes (affilitate link) – Yoga for Runners
- Saturday
- Long Run – 8 miles at 9:49 pace
- Yoga For Runners
- Teeter – 15 minutes
Saturday morning I met my MRTT friends at 7 AM for our weekly long run. With all of the trail miles I covered last week, and the Spring Chicago Half Marathon only two weeks away, I decided to play it safe and only run eight miles.
I ran out 2.5 miles with my friends and and then turned alone to head back to the parking lot to pick up the Cruisers for the rest of my miles. Unfortunately, no Cruisers showed up so I headed back out, still alone and feeling a little sorry for myself (I could have hung with my MRTT friends if I’d known). I headed back toward the direction my friends would be coming from, and eventually met them for a fun last mile with company – thank you Melissa and Rachel!

No racing this weekend… I did run but after a week on my feet sightseeing, I need a break ! Mojo comes and goes. Since my marathon I have been crazy busy, and just feeling blah about the running thing. I think I need more time to recover and rest, I didn’t give myself much down time.
I am now going to read your Ragnar recap !

It sounds like your body is enjoying some rest after your marathon; and most likely, when you’re rested enough, your body will get antsy and you’ll know it’s time to run again.
Sorry that I didn’t have my Ragnar Recap up until yesterday! You can now find it here.
You definitely deserve a few days rest after ragnar!
Glad you got to spend some time (or face time) with your children today!
Thanks! I’m planning to take more time off after the Chicago Spring Half.
I’m impressed you still got in runs this week at all after running Ragnar and with not much sleep. I pretty much took it easy this weekend anyway. I too was feeling some serious DOMS after Wednesday’s gym workout then an unexpected hilly run with a friends. Goodness the things you’ll do to spend time with friends. I sure paid for it the next few days but I’d do it again to get to run with my friend. Thanks Deb for linking up with us. Happy Mother’s Day to you and here’s to hoping you have a great week ahead!

Glad you had a nice Mother’s Day, too, Tricia!
I”m so tired of all the rain. I totally ran fewer miles than planned this week, purely because the rain sucked. I’m ready for a few days of real spring before summer hits.
Sounds like you are recovering well. Have a great week!

And it’s still raining… Agreed, I so hope we don’t jump from this rain to hazy, hot, and humid. 🙁
Hope your Mother’s Day was fantastic!
No racing this weekend. No running this weekend either. Hopefully in the next week or so I’ll be back on my feet. Last year I didn’t do a very good job of keeping the garden up but this year, I’m planning on planting some annuals in the raised beds we have around our deck. The backyard need some colour! My mojo is usually pretty good. I really enjoy being active / racing so I have no problem with motivation. Sometimes I have the opposite problem – I need to back things off! 🙂

Here’s hoping you’re back out running again very soon!
After a Ragnar, I’m sure I would have needed more days that you! I love the Mama and Baby Johns! I feel slightly Mojoless, even though I have a dog named Mojo. I think it’s because all of my planned “big” races are so far away. There’s nothing but heat and humidity on my immediate running horizon. Blech. I do plant a few flowers in pots around the pool. But, I rely heavily on the hostas, canna lilies, knockout roses and other perennials that come back every year. Enjoy the remainder of your Mother’s Day! Thanks for linking with us Deb.

Each year I put more ferns, bleeding hearts, elephant ears, etc. in my pots so I’ll have fewer annuals to plant year-after-year. I used to spend days planting everything, but I no longer have the energy or desire to do that.
Happy Mother’s Day to you! I haven’t planted any flowers. My husband has been working really hard to get a garden site prepped but there is so much to do (including building a deer exclusion enclosure) that he’s not sure he’ll get much planted this year.

Thank you! Hope your Mother’s Day was relaxing and enjoyable, too, Kelli!
We have had sucky weather all week.
I ran a 15k on Saturday and then a 5k on Sunday.
No time to plant flowers yet.

Hope your races went well! 15K’s are another difficult to find race – at least around here. I ran the Hot Chocolate 15K when it came to DC for one year, but it was such a disaster that they either weren’t welcomed back, or they chose to not return.
Sounds like a good week! This weekend’s weather was so perfect for running – finally nice spring sunshine!

It was so wonderful to finally see the sun on Sunday. 🙂
Hope you had a fabulous Mother’s Day, Coco!
I didn’t realize you were coming to Chicago in 2 weeks! I wish I was signed up to run that one. But cooler heads prevail, and I need to stay on my recovery plan…

Yes, we talked about it a long time ago; and you’re smart to let your body rest after Big Sur.
I made the mistake of not taking enough recovery after last week’s relay and was kind of dragging myself all week. We did a fun tour de cookie bike ride yesterday in Rockville.

Tour de Cookie? If that includes eating freshly baked cookies along the way, count me in next time! HaHa! 😀
I’ve been enjoying the flowers we planted earlier this year.. The gardenia has been blooming overtime! No races after Diva, but I’m ok with that because the heat will be bad soon enough.

I love the odor of gardinias! Here in Virginia, we can’t winter them over outside so I’ve never grown them. When I was little, my mom had one in a pot in our kitchen. 🙂
Way to rest and recover!!
Isn’t it so much nicer to cook at home than to go out and deal with all the crazy!! I made mussels in garlic and white wine sauce and bruschetta shrimp for my mom.
I hope you enjoyed your day!
I have pretty much always refused to be rushed on Mother’s Day, so we usually go out on Saturday night, if at all. Hope your Mother’s Day was wonderful!
wow. only a few days of rest after Ragnar? you still have your mojo!!!!!
sounds like a good and much needed recovery week!
great job!
Thanks, Melissa!
Another amazing week!
I don’t plant flowers much. Simply because they die almost immediately thereafter. My mom and grandmother are amazing gardeners, but sadly, it seemed to skip a generation with me. Oh, well.
Jenn recently posted…weekly recap: 5.1 – 5.7
I guess that I’m lucky in that respect… I inherited my mom and grandmother’s green thumbs, but I think I’m lazier than either of them. I don’t plant nearly as many flowers now as I used to, but my mom still plants tons of flowers and a vegetable garden.
Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, Jenn!
No racing for me until my next 13.1…June 4th. I did get some flowers planted (in a mad rush Saturday afternoon, before our grad party for the daughter). My mojo doesn’t suffer too often, but when it gets in slump I just take it easy. I try to not go more than two days without lacing up (even if it’s just for a simple mile to go through the motions). Typically, after a couple sessions of “single miles just because,” I’ll want to do something more exciting…and then I’ll run farther/faster/or do speed drills, etc.

Good for you!
I hope both your daughter’s graduation party, and your Mother’s Day were fun!
I love yard work and in particular planting flowers. Being outside is cathartic for me and motivates me in a variety of ways. Nice weather is always a huge motivator for me to get outside whether it be a run or a bike ride. Have a great week, Deb!
Christine @ Two Runners Travel recently posted…Weekly Workout Roundup: May 9th
Thanks, Christine! Today I did some more yard work between clients and rain drops. There’s definitely something cathartic about getting dirt under my fingernails. 🙂
