Welcome to Wednesday Word, a weekly linkup for everyone, not just health and fitness bloggers. Each Wednesday you will have a single word prompt to write about. Let your imagination run free and share with your readers your interpretation of that word, or simply use it as inspiration for your post. Today’s word is hullabaloo… I’d love to have you link up, and if you do, please remember to follow my six simple rules.
Hullabaloo
A very noisy and confused situation;
A situation in which many people are upset and angry about something
~ Merriam-Webster
While writing this post in my head last week during a run, I envisioned talking about next year’s big sixtieth birthday celebration and the ensuing fun-filled hullabaloo. Having looked up the definition, I’m not so sure that’s what I want!
I suppose I could picture a wild and raucous crowd upset and angry that their incredibly young-seeming friend is turing sixty; but wait, shouldn’t that be me upset about turning sixty? I couldn’t wait to turn forty, I was thrilled to turn fifty, but I’m not quite so sure I’m all that excited about turning sixty even though I’ll be moving into a new age group.
My plans for my sixtieth birthday celebration 362 days from now include running sixty miles – with a little help from my friends. Get ready friends; ten friends means running only six miles each!
If a hullabaloo should ensue, it will probably be the result of…
- Only one other friend turns up for our sixty-mile run and we each have to run 30 miles leaving that friend angry and pitching a fit
- Fifty-nine friends join me and get upset when they only get to run one mile
- Someone steals the orthotics out of our shoes and we have to run on our fallen, unsupported arches
- Someone replaces the orange Gatorade with Metamucil and there’s a mad dash of runners trying to fight their way into two porta potties
- Post run refreshments consist of prunes, jello, and fruit cocktail
- Someone hires the Chippendale dancers to come dance at our post-run festivities and because of my age, they send their retired auxiliary dancers who cause us to cringe and throw things when they rip off their shirts
What hullabaloos do you see popping up in you life in the next few months?

Next Wednesday’s Word: Gratitude
I don’t even want to think if what hullabaloo awaits me next year! A quiet year would be nice. A few races, a few trips, healthy animals & people, very little snow . . . that would make me happy!

Here’s hoping all those simple wishes come true for a less stressful 2017!
Hullabaloo is just too fun a word to have such negative connotations! LOL on the Gatorade/Metamucil mix up. That could cause some rioting. Happy belated birthday!

Thanks, Coco! And agreed about hullabaloo being a fun sounding word. I supose I’d been using it slightly incorrectly for years. 😀
Well, I think my marathon will a piece of cake compared to the hullabaloo next week…Thanksgiving prep with a body that may (or may not) want to remain vertical LOL But the Pennsylvania daughter (and dog) will be here, and the college son will be home. Life will be good regardless 😉

Yes, even with the craziness of pulling off the perfect Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends, it’s always worth it in the end!
Good luck at Route 66 and be sure to take a post-race ice bath to help you recover more quickly for Thanksgiving!
So many of my friends are all about the hullabaloo for those milestone birthdays. When I turned 50, I wanted to go to the beach with my sister. And that started our trend of annual sister trips. That’s how I like to celebrate.

We had the huge parties for both of our 40th birthdays, and then I threw a big party for Bill’s 50th. Three of my friends took me to Florida for my 50th birthday and then I had lunches and dinners with my other friends who didn’t go to Florida. It became so drawn out that I definitely want the party next year – one and done. But then again, my husband and I love entertaining and throwing parties so it’s just another excuse for us to entertain! 😀
60 miles wow!! Ok I may need to come out and join you next year on our birthdays. Hope you had a great day

If you join us that will add to the miles we’ll need to run since it will be your birthday, too. I think you’re in your 40’s so that will be at least 100+ miles so we’ll need to recruit a lot of friends to help us! LOL
Count me in for at least 10 of those miles!! xoxox

Definitely! You’ll be front and center helping polish my tiara. 😀
Since I am no longer running I will volunteer to organize the Chippendales dancers! You have a great plan!

Anne, you’re such a great friend. I love that you’re willing to take this one for the team. 😉 😀
Happy Birthday (belated). I’m laughing over the orthotics. So funny and true! It actually sounds like a fun way to celebrate #60. If I lived closer, I’d be there to run my 10! I foresee that you will be as strong and vibrant in your 60s as you’ve been in every other decade of your life. Thanks for the linkup!
Thanks, Holly! I hope you’re correct about my 60’s being strong and vibrant years! Wouldn’t it be fun if you could join us? Some day!
What a great word!!
I spit out my tea reading this post…so funny!!!
I have had enough Hullabaloo for 2016…I hope for no more anytime soon!!
TeeHee, I’m happy I made you laugh! Here’s hoping for a hullabaloo-free remainder of your year!
Great ideas !
And belated Happy birthday. Seriously, you look 20 years younger. I NEVER would have thought you were almost 60. In less than a year. Wow.

Awww thanks, Karen! It must be all of the running and healthy eating.
I just recently celebrated a birthday but it was not a milestone one, so nothing special! Plus I am quite a bit younger so I don’t think about any of those things:) Your ideas are too funny!

Hopefully, those won’t be issues for you for a long time! And in full disclosure, I had to look up “old people foods,” “old people habits,” etc. to come up with some of those ideas! 😀
