When in Blacksburg…
Arriving in Blacksburg Thursday evening with bright and expectant eyes for another fun-filled football weekend, Bill and I unpacked our stuff and headed straight to Cabo Fish Taco for dinner and drinks. Our friends Jim and Dee joined us to help close the place down (it closes at 10 PM LOL) and while they continued bar hopping to celebrate Jim’s big birthday, Bill and I turned in for the evening since we had a big day planned for Friday.
Hiking at Pandapas Pond
We slept in on Friday morning before heading to Pandapas Pond for a relaxing four-mile hike. Over the years we’ve enjoyed several trail runs at Pandapas Pond, but this time we were looking to keep it easy. We stayed on the easier Poverty Creek Trail for a short out-and-back before looping the pond.
We weren’t at all surprised to see how dried and curled up the Rhododendron leaves were along the very dusty trail.
Surprisingly, most of the other trees were still green and looking quite summer’ish…
Least you think we were making fast tracks, this is my life when Bill is carrying his good camera! 🙂
After making our way back to the pond, we walked around it and finished our hike at four miles.
We’ve Never Lost a Tailgate
After our hike, we stopped at Kroger to stock up with food and drinks for our tailgate before meeting our friends about three hours before kickoff. We had a great time catching up, but sadly, that was the highlight of our evening. Our Hokies are young and having an awful season. We were favored by two points, but lost by 35…
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
After taking a week off to let my body rest after my Marine Corps Half, I went out for my first run on Sunday and felt fine. Both follow-up runs later in the week felt great as well.
Biking
Knowing that I had a busy work week ahead since we were heading out of town mid-day on Thursday and I wouldn’t have time for a bike ride, I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) for a steady ride after my Sunday morning run. After my ride, I met a few clients to make up in advance their appointments I’d rescheduled from later in the week.
Hiking
See above… 😉
Strength Training
Even though our friends we were staying with in Blacksburg had a great workout area, we weren’t at the house long enough to lift. As a result, I missed strength training on Friday.
Yoga
I first discovered two of my yoga routines, Yoga for Cyclists and Yoga for Runners, on Rodney Yee’s Yoga Conditioning for Athletes (affiliate link). Both are less than ten minutes long and perfect for complimenting my running and biking without tying up too much time.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Rainbows, Puffballs, and Puppuccinos
I’ve started my half marathon recap and hope to get it posted this coming week. Once that’s done, I’ll return to hiking recaps. Blah, blah, blah, you’ve heard that before, right? 😉
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you do sport-specific yoga routines?
- What’s your favorite taco? ~ Shrimp for me!
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
That hike looks really nice! I mostly do all around Vinyasa yoga vs a flow. Have a great week thanks for linking up
It’s beautiful there and the weather was really nice (it’s usually a bit cooler in the mountains than at home).
I love shrimp tacos, though my favorite taco will always be the one I’m with at the time;-) Actually the margarita and those chips are really catching my eye in your pic.
I ran my 2nd half marathon yesterday and had a blast. I tried to do a recap for today’s post but then I realized that it’s all kind of a blur right now and I need more time to let the memories settle.

Love the one you’re with – even with tacos! 😀 And yes, the margarita was quite good!
Congrats on your half! Can’t wait to read your recap.
What a pretty trail!!! We have some pretty trails around here too, surprisingly. Hoping to lure my husband to the ice age trail next weekend up in Wisconsin.
Looks like a good week for you. Glad to see that running is going well again!
Thanks, Wendy! I hope you and your husband get in some good hikes!
Wow, those pics from your trail hike are amazing! Sorry about your football game ;-( Knock wood, my Hawkeyes are 4-0…thus far. I spent a huge chuck of Saturday watching college football (and foam rolling) LOL
I remember when we had a good team and I also remember when we were even worse than we are now – like when Bill and I were students at VT. Boy were we bad during those years (but I never missed a game).
Looks like an awesome hike. I do look forward to some hiking when it finally decides it’s fall around here! I’ve actually never had a shrimp taco! I go for a simple beef taco 🙂

There’s nothing wrong with a beef taco, but since I make those at home I usually get shrimp tacos if I choose tacos when we’re eating out. It was in the low 70’s with low humidity for our hike – can’t complain about that! Sadly, it’s supposed to be 96° here on Wednesday. Ugh!
the area where you were hiking looks amazing. I’m like Bill whenever we go anywhere… Ron is always waiting for me because I’m taking photos 😀
sorry I’ve missed your blog the last several weeks. just trying to catch up with everyone again now.
Being from New Mexico, our tacos usually don’t include seafood. So I don’t really understand fish tacos of any kind haha! Plus where I live now, I just love a taco that even slightly resembles a taco. But usually I do like my tacos with pork or beef (and I rarely eat pork!).
sport-specific yoga? no. not tried it.
races? Nope. No running for me for the next three months anyway.
It’s only been during the last few years that I’ve tried anything other than beef tacos, but since I make those at home, I get something different if I’m out.
I’m so sorry to hear that you can’t run for three months. Sending virtual hugs your way!
That hike looks lovely. Mr. Judy is the same way, but I usually am off either walking further than him, or taking my own photos.
Sounds like you had a great week!
Thanks, Judy!
Go Duke 😉
Actually mostly Go Coach Cut and his ties to NYG. My football allegiances are more toward South Bend

I should have given you our tickets. LOL
I really want to see a true college football atmosphere. We just don’t do it well here, mostly due to lack of parking/tailgate

I know I’m biased, but there’s nothing like jumping to Enter Sandman as the Hokies run onto the field, especially at a night game! I get goose bumps any time I watch any of the numerous videos out there! I couldn’t find the video I really like, but check out this one, starting around 2:30.
Awesome one
Here Enter Sandman was used for the Yankees former closer so it’s always bittersweet for me

I love yoga with Adrienne on YouTube! Same concept- all her videos are about 20 minutes long, just long enough for a good stretch but not long enough to be too boring or time consuming! I’ll have to check out the ones you linked.
