Happy Mother’s Day
Here’s to a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms reading my blog! A huge shoutout goes to my own mom for being such a great influence on me and teaching me to strive to always be the best that I could be. It was through her example, that I learned to be a loving and caring mom.
And of course, I wouldn’t be a mom if it weren’t for these two cuties who made being a mom incredibly rewarding.
I couldn’t be prouder of the men they’ve become!
Tenth of May Cold Spell
Growing up, I always heard my dad talk about not planting crops until after the tenth of May cold spell. Every year, like clockwork, we have one final cold snap around this time before the heat and humidity of summer starts creeping toward us. This year’s tenth of May cold spell, which started a day early, was a doozy with wind chills down into the 20’s yesterday morning and with today’s high expected to be around 63°.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
As difficult as it is for me, I’m playing it safe and walking for another week or two.
Walking
I went on five walks this week, four alone and one with a friend, socially distanced of course. On Thursday my friend Betty stopped by, and wearing masks, we walked two miles while catching up. I stayed on the sidewalk and she walked in the street – don’t worry, it was safe, we didn’t see a single car.
On Saturday, I walked the Virtual Mother’s Day Four-Miler, but since it was so cold, I stayed inside on my treadmill. I’ll have more to share in my recap later this week.
Biking
Ugh, I never made time to ride… 🙄
Strength Training
I took it pretty easy with lifting on Monday, but gained momentum as the week progressed. I also did two half-hour physical therapy homework sessions.
Yoga
Oops, I was negligent in my yoga practice as well… 😬
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Two Steps Forward, One Step Backward
- Thursday – Cinco de Mayo: America’s Excuse for Eating Mexican Food and Drinking Margaritas
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
Questions:
- • If you’re a mom or have a mom, how are you celebrating Mother’s Day? ~ I sent a card and flowers to my mom and will call her later today.
- • How’s the weather where you live, are you experiencing a tenth of May cold spell?
- • Did you run in a virtual race this weekend? ~ I walked a virtual race yesterday!
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Love how you decorated the treadmill for the virtual walk. We Zoomed with my mom and her husband and my brother, sister-in-law and the kids. There were dinosaurs!
Look forward to our virtual run/walk/walk in a couple of weeks. That’s going to be fun.

Thanks! Since I was doing the race on the treadmill, it seemed like a fun idea to decorate it with the photo props. 😀
And same here, I’m really looking forward to our virtual race!
The weather this weekend was definitely something for the record books! It was a real feel of 20 degrees when I woke up on Saturday and it wasn’t that much better today! I already packed up all my cold weather running gear so I took my workouts inside.
Wishing you a very Happy Mother’s Day – hope you have an amazing day!
Thanks, Kim, I had a great day! Our kids came over for a socially distanced barbecue. Thank goodness it was warm enough to stay outside on the deck.
Very strange weather indeed! What else will the universe throw at us? Happy happy mother’s day to you! Have a great week ahead

Thanks, Deborah! I can’t believe how cool it still is, but I’m not complaining too much now that it’s not blustery cold.
I never heard of the 10th of May cold spell, but yep that checks out for this year, we had two nights of frost and a snowstorm. Happy Mother’s Day and I’ll look forward to the 4 mile recap.

I heard that some areas got snow and was happy that didn’t include us. We woke up to snow on Memorial Day weekend when we lived in Utah.
My virtual 4 miler recap is up. Hope you enjoy it!
I have never heard of the 10th of May Coldspell, and I grew up in rural America LOL That certainly would be accurate, though, but our’s arrived Friday and we had frost advisories both Friday and Saturday morning. UGH. I just want my summer back! Hope you had a nice Mother’s Day, Debbie!
I hope you get your summer soon. I know how you love it!
Happy Mothers Day! We facetimed with my mom and MIL yesterday and sent them gifts which will be arriving late thanks to all the delays lately. Glad you could get all your walks in and hope you can get back to running soon!
Thanks, Lisa!
Here’s to a better week weather & exercise-wise!
I spent a LOT of time trying to talk my mom through zoom in prep for today’s call (and again today). She’s doing great, but in the end, she’s getting someone on staff to help her out for the actual call.
I also sent her an ecard, but I know she hasn’t seen it yet (I get her email, too, so I can help her out with that). My sister brought her a plant & BBQ & we’re supposed to split the costs — flowers were going to cost an arm & a leg!
Happy Mother’s Day, Deb!
Once my mom FaceTimed me by accident from her iPad. Both the email and the FaceTime icons are green and she wasn’t paying close attention and just pressed the button. It was pretty funny to see her reaction that she could talk AND see me! She doesn’t really like it though, so we just talk on the phone.
And thanks for the Mother’s Day wishes!
I was hoping to start planting my vegetable garden this past weekend, but nope, too cold! This week looks super rainy too, so who knows when it will get planted. I went to visit my parents. My dad has been a little off lately, so it was good for me to see he was doing well. And they weren’t bickering – that’s a good thing too!

I hope you can get your garden planted soon. I know what it feels like to want to plant, but Mother Nature isn’t cooperating.
Happy Mother’s Day! We did see my mom on Saturday (my birthday) and did a tailgate in the driveway with breakfast. It was nice. She doesn’t want to do any gifts or anything until this is over, so we haven’t been giving anything or doing anything like that.
Our cold snap was a little bit before May 10. However, we will be having some chilly nights this week again.
Happy belated birthday, Jenn (although, I’m sure I wished you a HBD on FB)! I’m glad you were able to get “together” with your mom.
I hope you had a Happy Mother’s Day! We ended up having a really nice day and I’m just proud to be part of the club!
I never heard of the May 10 rule but I’m originally from Buffalo, NY and we have definitely had snow in May on more than one occasion! We had a cold snap in Philly but I didn’t mind too much as I just stayed in the house!
Awww, I hope you had a happy first Mother’s Day! 🙂
It’s ok to have off weeks or take it easy. Hope you had a great mother’s day though!! And yes, I did a virtual half this week since my canceled race sent us the medals and everything. Not into virtual races but felt I had to earn that medal…
Thanks, my mother’s day was great! Yep, you’ve got to earn the medal and the shirt. 😉
