Changing Things Up
This week I’m trying things a little differently and throwing my weekly rundown back to the way I had it laid out years ago, looking at what I did (workout wise) on each day of the week rather than listing each type of workout and what I got done. Perhaps this way I can slide right on past skipping yoga without anyone noticing. 😬
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Sunday
The kids came over for a socially distanced Mother’s Day barbecue on Sunday and may I tell you how badly I wanted to hug them? After lunch we went for a 2-mile walk with Pablo leading the way. Here he is playing in the backyard before our walk.
Monday
Blustery cold weather made me happy that Monday was a lifting day and that I didn’t have plans to go outside. I spent an hour strength training and then another half hour doing my physical therapy homework.
Tuesday
I waited until 10 AM to go out for my walk in hopes of it warming up. It was breezy and 49° when I headed out which is fantastic running weather, but a bit chilly for my liking when walking, even when keeping a brisk pace. Not gonna lie, I was pumped to see that I’d averaged a 14:18 pace on my 4-mile walk.
Wednesday
I go up super early on Wednesday so I could lift and do my PT homework before “seeing” my 7:30 AM client. Bill got up with me and went for a bike ride. Now that it’s getting warmer, perhaps I’ll go out with him a morning or two a week when I don’t have an early client.
Thursday
It was 52° on Thursday at 7:30 AM when I headed out for a 5-mile walk (average pace 14:56). I decided to change up the scenery and take our neighborhood trails to the W&OD Trail. It’s a much prettier walk than doing laps on the half-mile loop on our street, but the trail is narrow and when it’s busy it’s harder to stay at least 6 feet away from other trail users. Being on the earlier side helped, but I still saw quite a few people.
Once on the W&OD Trail, I saw Bill riding toward me. I knew he was out riding, but hadn’t expected to see him so it was a pleasant surprise!
Friday
When Bill left our house at 5 AM to go ride I woke up and tried to go back to sleep, but when I couldn’t I got up. It was great getting my lifting and physical therapy homework completed and out of the way so early in the morning!
I added in some yoga poses to my balance and stretching class that I teach on Facebook Live on Friday mornings. I had my students do tree pose, Warrior 1, Warrior 2, and a modified version of airplane pose so at least I got in a little bit of yoga. 😉
I did some yard work during the afternoon and it felt great to be outside getting some more of my gardening chores checked off of my todo list.
Saturday
We woke up about an hour before our alarm went off so we did some things around the house before heading out in the delightful 72° for a walk. Our intentions were to walk 6 miles, but we messed up our calculations, so we decided to do 10K and messed that up, so 6.5 miles it was! 😂😂😂
I did more yard work after our walk so I was quite exhausted by the time I was done, but being exhausted after working hard is the best feeling in the world.
Overview of the Week
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Whoa 14:18 miles walking speed! That’s more impressive than if you’d told us that you ran a 4:18 mile. I’ve found myself starting my workouts later and later each morning b/c it’s been so cold but now that’s it’s warmer I need to get started earlier so that I can beat the heat. I’m laughing about the yardwork question. I do not have a green thumb but I dabble in gardening for the fresh herbs and the approximately 1 viable tomato that we get each year. My husband and I have a deal that I clean inside and he takes care of the outside. I haven’t touched a lawn mower in 3 years and it is wonderful.

I grew up on a farm and always loved cutting the grass. When we got married I told Bill that he was not allowed to cut the grass. In fact, I mowed the lawn the day before our first son was born. About eight years ago my husband recommended that we hire a lawn service because he didn’t want me out in the sun so much with my skin cancer issues and he knew he’d never cut the grass to suit me. LOL I begrudgingly agreed, but now I love having it done each week. Not spending four hours mowing the lawn (including edging, blowing clippings) gives me plenty of time to trim bushes, work in my flowers, etc. 😀
You had a very active week! I’m glad that you were able to see your kids on Mother’s Day, and it looks like Pablo had a blast too!
I’ve been doing early morning workouts more consistently during this quarantine period and I really enjoy them. I like feeling that I accomplished a lot before logging on to work.
Pablo LOVES playing in our back yard. Daniel and Jess say he starts making happy whining noises as soon as they turn onto our street and he realizes where he’s going.
Don’t you love getting your workouts completed before starting work so you can relax after work?
I’ve heard of many people mention the W&OD Trail. I am so curious about it and want to run there one day. 🙂 I also like working out in the morning before logging in for work. However, I have not been sleeping well (I blame it on the cats) and now sometimes get up around 8am. That is still early but I used to get up between 4:30-5:00 am when I was in school.

I really need to do a dedicated post about the W&OD Trail. It’s 44.5 miles of asphalt and gravel trails paralleling each other along an old rail bed. Our back yard connects to one of our neighborhood trails and we can take it 1.3 miles to the W&OD Trail. We’re very lucky!
Oh Pablo..his energy reminds me of Ruth 🙂 Makes me smile.
That’s a fast walking pace- wow!
Glad you could see your kids, even though at a distance.
Have a great week!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have half their energy? Of course, I wouldn’t like sleeping as much as they do.
So no running this week? I hoped that you were feeling better. Glad you got out for lots of walking miles!
Pablo is so cute!
No, still no running. On Saturday when we were walking we came up behind a guy and decided to ease into an easy run to pass him and my back felt so stiff. It actually hurt to run. 🙁 I was supposed to have an MRI on Friday, but they rescheduled me for May 31st. I really want to get to the bottom of this.
you both really are early birds over there! I am enjoying doing many more walks myself every afternoon. Just feels good to be outside.
I am loving being outside. I want to soak in as much as I can before the heat and humidity arrive.
You were a walking warrior! Reminds me of a certain someone almost three summers ago 😉 I agree…the temps feel much cooler walking than when running!
Yes, I remember that certain someone, and has it been three years already?
Looks like a great week! I am not into gardening or yard work. My husband mows the lawn and thats about all we do:) I am definitely a morning person so I do all my workouts first thing in the day, usually around 5am.
Thanks, Lisa! Same here, I prefer to crank out my workouts first thing after getting up.
Sounds like a really good week! Walking with the dogs our pace is roughly 20 mm. On a good day. 🙂
Don’t like yard work, but do like gardening, although this year Mr. Judy has decided to try his hand at it. He, of course, wants no advice from me!
I don’t have a routine time for working out, it’s mostly when I feel like it. Which is why I procrastinate getting out when the weather isn’t good (which isn’t always a good thing).
Thanks, Judy! Now if only I could get back to running, my workouts would feel complete. A 20:00 min/mile isn’t a bad pace with little dogs with short little legs, especially if they like to stop and sniff things occasionally. 😀
I did the Historic Half and Semper f5ive for the virtual devil dog double challenge. I wouldn’t be able to do it IRL since I’m still a little too slow to do the 5 miler in the allotted time so it was fun to be able to do it virtually. Maybe next year I’ll do it IRL!
It sounds like good things come from racing virtually. Congrats!
Great job!
I am an early morning exerciser. I like to have it done and out of the way for the day, instead of looming over my head. Yuck.
Gardening and yardwork are no-go’s over here. The grass is so thick that it just makes sense to hire a service, and every time I start attempting to do something in our plantings, a snake comes slithering out and ruins everything. I’m good inside.
Same here, as much as I enjoy working out, I don’t like having it hanging over my head all day.
I always cut our grass (and I loved it) until abut ten years ago when my husband suggested we hire a lawn service so I wouldn’t be out in the sun so long every week. I like that it’s freed up more time for me to do other yard work. I do see the occasional black snake and don’t love it, especially if it catches me by surprise.
