It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and complaining about our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I can’t believe that it’s been since January that I last sat down for a chat over coffee, water, etc. with you. Life’s been busy and my blog has taken somewhat of a backseat as I try to keep my head above water with work and life in general.
Last we talked, my friends and I were about to embark on our epic 133-mile bike ride from Key Largo to Key West in Florida. We had a fabulous time on our two-day ride and made it to the iconic buoy at the Southern Most Point of the Continental US.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that we returned to Florida in late March to visit Pablo and his humans. The weeklong visit included lots of hiking, biking, eating great food, Pablo snuggles, and catching up with our son and new daughter-in-law.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that our kitchen makeover is moving along. The cabinet painting and glazing was completed in early March, but it took me forever to find the perfect pulls and handles – I eventually found them at Wayfair. It took a while for me to build up the courage to drill holes in our freshly painted cabinets, but I measured, leveled, and measured again and managed to drill all 113 holes without making a mistake until the very last one which I marked 1/8-inch too high on the right side. I was able to fix it by drilling an elongated hole downward which allowed me to attach the handle level.

Butler’s pantry…
The bar stool seats need to be recovered so that’s next on my list as I procrastinate on refinishing the kitchen table and chairs. The table and chairs were a wedding gift from my parents, but the honey oak finish needs some work after 40 years so I’m taking advantage of staining them a dark espresso to better match the new kitchen.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m creating a little gnome garden in our back yard. We’ve had the two Virginia Tech gnomes forever, but I just added the gnome holding a bluebird (affiliate link) and four season gnome flags (affiliate link).
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I celebrated Global Running Day on Wednesday in a big way by joining a fun event at Potomac River Running where the main event was running with Meb. In the picture below, I’m out of sight in the far back on the left side, and no, I never caught up with Meb. 😉
Additionally, I celebrated our big day with my blogging runner friends from afar. Thank you Cari for putting together this collage for us!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any races coming up, and if so, I’d tell you to have fun and stay safe!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • What hobbies and chores do you enjoy when you’re not working or working out?
- • Did you celebrate Global Running Day? If so, please tell me all about it!
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Your kitchen looks fantastic! I also really like the white cabinets. I am done w races until fall way too hot for me. Glad to have you back for the coffee date today
Thanks, Deborah! I’m happy to be back!
Your kitchen looks great!! We have cherry cabinets and there’s no way my hubs would have them painted over, lol. But we have talked about changing the hardware. It just takes time and motivation…both of which are lacking these days.
So exciting that you met Meb. I met him a few years ago and isn’t he the nicest guy?
Thanks, Wendy! I hear you, my motivation ebbs and flows and right now I’m not particularly motivated to start my table refinishing project.
Yes, Meb was extremely nice!
Your kitchen looks amazing. I’m impressed you did the knobs/pulls yourself, but you are handy like that. I remember being shocked at how much those little knobs cost!
How cool to run with Meb — even if you couldn’t catch up with him. When I met him at Cherry Blossom events he was so nice.
We’re doing the Tour de Talbot this weekend — the course is so flat there’s 300 ft elevation over the metric century route!!
Those knobs and handles were more expensive than I expected, but I got them at 59% off. By the time I finally made my decision, I placed the order with only 45 minutes left until they went back up in price. Whew!
Have a fun ride this weekend!
Your kitchen looks awesome. I did nada for ours. Still stressful.
I was thinking of adding gnomes to my perennial garden.
I recently went to Florida too. It was warm but loved the nearby water. The Gulf.
I have a 5k tomorrow and a 15k at the end if the month. The weekends in between are up in the air. I love to race.
Thanks, Darlene! I usually find some way of inserting myself into our home renovating projects and perhaps the contractors would prefer that I didn’t. LOL
You’ll have to share pictures if you add gnomes to your perennial garden. 🙂
Good luck at your 5K!
I LOVE your new kitchen!!! And what a cool event, running with Meb. I did run on Global Running Day but it wasn’t quite as exciting as your event- I did a 5k time trial just for the fun of it.
I really need some work done on my kitchen, so if you want to come back down to Florida for a little… vacation… you can stay with me! ; )
Thanks, Jenny! And note to self, “Be very wary if Jenny insists I come visit her.” 😉
Doing a 5K time trial sounds like a fun way to celebrate Global Running Day!
I love your kitchen re-do! I told my friend, Amy, about your Key West bike ride and she want s to do it, too. If your ride happens in 2023, can I ask to get in on it…maybe? Upcoming races? I have my favorite, DAM to DSM, tomorrow 😉 Enjoy your weekend, Deb 😉
Thanks, Kim!
You know it, if we do Key West again in 2023 or 2024, I’ll definitely keep you posted.
Oh yay, hope you have a blast at DAM to DSM!
I think your kitchen looks amazing both ways! My, that’s a huge kitchen, too. So nice and bright now.
I have a couple of races in mind, but it just all depends. I’m not super attached to anything right now.
I’ll bet that you really enjoyed that time with family in FL.
Thanks, Judy! You’re right, the kitchen is so much brighter now and I love how it turned out. I was nervous going into the project, afraid that I’d picked the wrong shade of white, that they wouldn’t do a good job, etc. The cabinets turned out even nicer than I had hoped.
Yes, we had a wonderful time with Pablo and the kids when we visited Florida. 🙂
Yay Pablo! he’s so cute!
I love your kitchen! It’s so pretty!
Thanks, Jenn!
Your kitchen remodel looks amazinggggg. <3!! Love the gnome garden too, hehe.

Wow, your kitchen looks beautiful!! Love it!

Thanks, Zenaida!
The kitchen looks great! I can imagine the stress of getting the holes on the cabinets all (almost ) correct! Glad it was an easy fix on the one with the small goof. In our first house we renovated the kitchen by putting new cabinet doors on and resurfacing the frames with a wood veneer. Luckily it was a small kitchen and it turned out well.
Thanks, Lisa!
