Advanced Blogging Over My Pay Grade
Totally unrelated to my workouts, and feel free to skip ahead, WordPress notified me a few weeks ago that I was running an old PHP version (scripting language – yes, I had to look it up) which would no longer be supported in July. Updating it myself seemed overwhelming when I tried following the WordPress link and I thought I’d have to hire someone to do it for me. Yesterday morning; however, I noticed a link through my hosting company GoDaddy so I decided to give that a try. I dutifully backed up my site and nervously clicked the button to update to the latest PHP. Ten minutes later I refreshed my site and voila, it worked, I hadn’t crashed DebRuns!
While I was on a roll, I decided to check my site health and learned that I should delete old themes. During the process of trying to delete a few old themes, I clicked on theme file editor and the following popped up…
I closed out the tab, but when I refreshed my site, I saw error notices at the top of the page which you can see, too. Were they there after updating the PHP and I hadn’t noticed them or did it happen when I clicked on the theme file editor even though I didn’t do anything? My site health is telling me this is a critical issue and that debug mode is probably enabled. Now I have to figure out how to undo debug mode (if that is indeed the issue). Believe me, this is all well above my pay grade. 🙁
Overview of the Week
Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll beyond the infographic for daily details…
Sunday
Cycling: 34 miles
• Average speed: 14.2 MPH
• Bike: Specialized Roubaix Comp
• Surface: paved
• Elevation gain: 1,355 feet
• Start time: 1:18 PM
• Location: W&OD Trail Hamilton loop
• Weather: 77° and sunny, climbing to 80°
• What I wore: bike shorts, s/s jersey
With family plans during the morning, it was early afternoon before I got out to ride. Bill had already ridden 185 miles in the previous seven days and opted to rest his legs. It was a stunningly gorgeous day – perfect weather for a ride.
I stopped on my way home at our favorite butcher to pick up chicken to grill. Don’t all cyclists carry raw chicken in their bike jerseys? BTW, the cold chicken on my back felt quite refreshing.
Monday
Strength training : 1 hour of total body
Tuesday
Running: 5K
• Average pace: 9:55
• Start time: 7:28 AM
• Location: Gravel road at the farm
• Weather: 65° and cloudy
• What I wore: shorts, tank and visor
Rolling: 10 minutes
Stretching: 10 minutes
With rain in the forecast, I was out the door earlier than planned for my run in an effort to beat it. VDOT had laid a fresh layer of gravel on the road and once again, I’d forgotten to bring my trail shoes to the farm.
Wednesday
Rest day
Thursday
Walking: 5K
• Average pace: 14:58
• Start time: 8:57 AM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 74°, sunny, and humid
• What I wore: shorts, tank, and visor
After sitting in the car for six hours coming home from the farm, my back felt a little tight (tight, but not sore) so I opted to walk instead of run. Even if I decide to do a race on Independence Day, I decided give my back all of the TLC it wants and just take it easy with running for now.
Friday
Strength training : 1 hour of full body
Balance and stretching: 45 minutes
Saturday
Walking: 2 miles
• Average pace: 14:42
• Start time: 5:03 PM
• Location: neighborhood circle
• Weather: 74°, cloudy, and humid
• What I wore: shorts and s/s shirt
Last Week’s Blog Posts
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
Questions:
- • Any coding or blogging geniuses out there who know how to fix my debugging issue, if indeed that’s what’s wrong?
- • What was your favorite workout of the week?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Last year the Blogger platform underwent a major redo and that really threw me off! I had to make a few changes in my code–yikes–to get rid of similar messages at the top of my blog like yours. They continue to tweak things and errors do pop up from time to time. So far, I’ve been able to fix them myself but I’m always on pins and needles when I do!
Thank goodness for biking and running, right?
Those error messages always make me so nervous, but I’m usually able to figure it out. And yes, thank goodness for biking and running!
Ha no I have not carried chicken in my back pocket before! creative though. I am too afraid to mess with blog coding like that. I had someone do it for me but impressive you figured it out. I have no idea how to get those error messages off. Janice who was in our fit blog group a while back has done some site updates and coding for me in the past. Happy to share her info if you want to see if she can help
Thanks, Deborah, I’ll let you know if I need Janice’s contact info.
So far no blogging issues. Sorry.
I’ve carried dvds and books. No chicken. Lol
I skipped some 5ks and had major FOMO. Still had fun hanging out with my running friends. They do not enjoy racing unfortunately.
That’s great that you’ve not experienced blogging issues. I had several issues two years ago after switching from http to https. Fortunately, GoDaddy walked me through to fix everything.
Ugh, I’d be in a majorly nervous panic if any of those codes popped up on my blog. My tech skills are pathetic, and that’s being generous. We’re headed out, in an hour or so, for a long day of biking with our friends. We’re checking out a new (to us) trail, and we’re estimating a 50-mile day 😉 That may be my favorite workout of the week 😉
Can’t wait to hear all about your Sunday ride!
LOL at the chicken in your bike jersey!
Sorry, I have no help to offer for your debugging other than good wishes.
Paying attention to the back is the wise thing to do. I have quite a few friends that are older than me, and most of them just don’t bounce back from injuries the way they used to. 🙁
I will be the first to admit that I don’t bounce back like I did in my younger years. It’s hard when my brain tells me one thing, but my body says something entirely different. LOL
Thanks for the good wishes for my blog. Hopefully, I’ll have a chance to take a look at it later this week.
I would totally have to hire someone to help me with the blog issue. Luckily i haven’t had any issues so far… but I’ve been thinking of hiring someone anyway to help me with some random things I can’t figure out! So, I’m officially lame.
Sounds like you had an active week while taking care of your back. I hope it feels better soon!
Thanks, Jenny!
I updated a plug in earlier this week that took my website offline for a few hours. Thankfully, GoDaddy was able to help me fix it, but at the time I was freaking out. It also made me realize that I know nothing about how websites work on the back end, lol.
That’s so nerve wracking! I updated my Yoast SEO plugin a year ago and it took my blog down. I had to call GoDaddy for help and I’ve been afraid to reinstall the plugin ever since. As a result, I see a lot less traffic on my blog and even I have trouble finding older posts that used to pop right up with just a few search words.
Awesome workouts!
I had a meltdown on the phone with GoDaddy a few months ago. I felt like I pay them a monthly fee t keep things working smoothly, and they just put bandaids on things until the next falls apart. I ended up getting a really great rep on the phone who listened to me and got everything mostly fixed. I hope you can get to the source of the issue.
Glad you got everything “mostly” fixed. I’ve learned it just depends on who you get when you call GoDaddy. Some are soooo helpful, some, not so much… 🙁
The best I can tell you is that is has to do with a boolean value (true/false, y/n) in your theme. Maybe a plug in is causing the problem? You could turn off each plug in and see if that fixes it. First make sure you have applied all of your plug in updates. Maybe one isn’t compatible? You could also try switching the theme over to a generic one. But honestly, I’m afraid to touch my website because even though I am a programmer, I haven’t been trained on WordPress! Maybe a call to GoDaddy support would help you out. They have always been helpful for me. Good luck!
Yes, GoDaddy has been very helpful to me in the past. A part of me was hoping to figure it out on my own, but I think a call into them is in order. Thanks!
